I'm building my exhaust from used pipes I got from working at the body shop. I've got enough to make a full 2 1/2" dual set-up. I bought a cheap x-pipe from eBay, traded an electric fan for a pair of Flowmaster 40's, the rest is free junk. I even have a pair of electronic valves off a 19 Vette that I'm thinking about making cutouts with. Taking garbage and making it work. That's how I hotrod

This is why I like auto racing - it's a combination of technical knowledge, skills, and self-improvement. The driver has to be in as good (if not better) shape than the car, i.e. light but still strong and with lots of stamina. High-level drivers spend a lot of time exercising to maintain that form because you can't just get off the couch and run the 24 hours of LeMans. Great vid

Thank God for my favorite KZfaq automotive channels! I made it unscathed through the quarantine and went to work every day. Then, about 2 1/2 weeks ago, I tore up my knee and haven't been able to do much of anything! We all like looking at the 6 figure bought not built trailer queens. However, even if I had an unlimited budget, I know that I couldn't let someone else build my car while I sat back and signed checks.

I was a strength & conditioning specialist for 20 years. We have the same concept going on with athletes. Too many young athletes (and their parents) don't understand the power of optimizing power-to-weight ratio and they wanted me to design advanced workouts for bodies that were over-fat, which is not only dangerous, but a lost cause.

A short story about Uncle Tony.. It's 5am, Uncle Tony & Uncle Kathy are in bed. Uncle Tony is wide awake looking at the window as the sun rises. He couldn't sleep all night, because today is the day that his one off triple breaker point distributor arrives, he can't wait to fiddle with it and run custom timings for each set of points. Later on in the morning, after brushing his teeth and considering if he should shower before working on bottle rocket, he sits down with his coffee to read KZfaq comments. Uncle Kathy comes in from the garage holding a can, "Tony, you know this 2K hardener says it contains isocyanate, I'm pretty sure we shouldn't like spray this stuff without a mask." Tony looks over, "meh, we're not dead, it's fine". They hear a noise at the door, Kathy goes to investigate. "Hey Kathy! Listen to this troll comment, he says they can do a better job of painting a car with a paint roller and a tub of dulux emulsion, f###### trolls man, I love em". Kathy comes back, "hey the mail man left a card", Tony gets up and looks at it, "son of a bitch!" He grabs the nearest thing to hand, which happens to be an Irwin bimetallic hack saw, and chases after the mail main. He catches him just as he is closing the door to the back of the van. "Hey man, I think you have something for me! Why didn't you ring the bell? What's wrong with you people? You get paid extra for redelivery or something? I got projects that need doing, and you just shove a card under my door!" Tony looks at the googly eyed simpleton up and down, "here's the card right, just give me my package and I'll be on my way". The mail man gets a message, takes out his phone and starts tapping away. "Are you even listening to me?" Sliding the phone back into his pocket pouch, the mail man sighs and rolls his eyes, "listen old man, I ain't got time for your problems, we got this new biometric lock thing, and like I ain't opening the door to look for your package. We'll redeliver in 48 hours or you can go online and arrange collection from our depot, cool? Look man I got to go" Tony looks around with his mouth open in amazement. "Cool?" Tony prods the googly eyed simpleton with the hack saw as he talks, "You call me an old man, refuse to give me my package and you say it's s cool?"....... "You know, I once beat one of your kin into a coma with a carburettor, but I'll be nice, ill give you $5 if you give me my package, deal?" The mail man scoffs and turns to get in the van. Uncle Kathy is inside preparing breakfast, the door swings open and Tony walks in, "can you believe it, that ass hole didn't want to give me my package." Kathy looks over, "Tony, what's that?".. "It's a triple points distributor! Can't wait to show the guys on KZfaq.".. "No Tony, that, is that someone's arm?" Tony looks down at his hand, he is holding the googly eyed simpletons right arm. "Oh shit, yeah, no they got this new biometric lock on their vans, and the guy didn't want to open the van so. You know. I cut it off real good".. "Tony! You can't keep doing these things!". Tony starts to look around amongst the scraps of papers and leaflets. "Hey Kathy, you know where the address book is?".. "Yeah, it's over by the sofa". Tony looks in the book under O, then dials the number listed under the name Organ Theft Ring. "Hey, it's Tony, yeah no I got another one.. Yeah it's a f###### postal worker. Probably mid twenties I'd say, unconscious I think, ummmm, no he looks healthy but he's missing an arm. Alright, cool, no worries see you in a couple of minutes." Uncle Kathy comes over to sit with Tony, "you know, you can't keep doing this.".. "Yeah, look I'll mellow out some day, but I just can't stand these mail guys, they treat us like f###### idiots." Outside a black GMC van pulls up, two men get out, put on plastic gloves and proceed to put the still semi conscious mail man in a corners bag. They load him into the van, one man gets in and drives off while the other gets in the mail van and goes the opposite direction. Tony and Kathy are cuddled up looking at the TV, when Tony's phone gets a text. Kathy picks it up, puts on her reading glasses and looks at the message. "Your vacuum has had its filter cleaned, no charge." She hands the phone to Tony. "Huh?" Tony glances back over at the window and sees the van is gone. "Oh, right, hey, you wanna watch ancient aliens?".. "Sure, but let me just take care of this." Uncle Kathy being the resourceful woman that she is, puts on a pair of gloves, takes the arm and rubs it down with alcohol. She then ties a large balloon to it, inflates it with helium and sends it on its way. She disposes of the gloves by burning them and then sits down to watch ancient aliens with Tony.

Chocolate ex-lax will lighten you up quick. Just puttin it out there. Ha

Tony has me lookin at all my bolts wanting to cut them all down. I enjoy making things fit even if they weren't meant to be. I also love customizing my car so no other car in the streets look like mine. I expect my car to be fast in a straight line and later to be fast at a autocross.

Tony I have a 1960 Plymouth Fury 2dr ht. It was ordered in 1959 basically as a factory race car. I swear there isn't anything extra on it. Like the radiator support rather than nuts and bolts it has 2 bolts welded to the frame, no extra nut heads. It doesn't even have the factory sound deadening in the trunk area. It really is a simple car. I just make sure what's there is working and everything works together.

I ditched inner fenders on 1964 impala. Ran it year round snow, rain never had problem.

Back in the '60s , Ramchargers and other F/Xers even cut off any part of a bolt or screw that stuck through too far. One owner said he cut 15-20 lbs doing that. Aaaaaahhh the good old days. 👍🤘✌️😂

Most of my weight reduction on my projects (mostly all trucks!) comes from crawling underneath with a scraper and wire brush, then getting out some degreaser and the pressure washer... this usually leads to the discovery, and repair, of more leaks ;) the rest comes from a sawzall and cutoff wheels!

Take off the chrome and use paint instead! I took off pounds off chrome and replaced it with stripes on my 1966 Pontiac Starchief Executive. Or don't paint it. Sand it off to metal and just clear it to take weight off. How much 2 gallons of drive paint and primer weight? It would count as the same as scrubbing the zebart coating and metal griding you did. The clear makes it more aerodynamic. But you know all that. I really appreciate every vidéos you make cause its like being at university of cars knowledges and beeing with you in the shop. You explain details and share with passion. I really would like to talked personnaly about certain details and lately my 389ci started to compress in the base. Oil spitting from breather. Where to start after pcv valve and compression drop on pistons before i take everything apart. Steps to go! I you have time to read in the thousands of messages. Hehe

My car is the Australian version of this, cm valiant (3368 pounds) and has a 245 Hemi 6, just bought a 265 Hemi 6 which will go in and I am planning on cutting as much weight out as possible with the same goal as bottle rocket, looking forward to it

Pure hot rodding--dealing with the fact there is as much failure as there is success. Like Edison failing at the lightbulb until he learned everything the bulb was not. You get the wrong part, the right part doesn't make the power advertised, the rusty bolt won't let go, but you keep on keepin' on until the car does what it should--and then something else breaks because its the next weakest point in the system, or its just old. Preserverence is hot rodding and inventing. Weight loss is "free" hot rodding. It helps the launch, the balance in corners, and the braking and fuel efficiency to help you skip a lap.

When I was fixing up my Nova I pulled probably 3 pounds of gravel and road debris out of the frame. Pressure washing the underside removed a whole lot of crud, too.

For me I am taking the worst handling and performance car made by MOPAR as a performance car. A 1979 Plymouth Volare \6. 4 speed. This I plan on Autocrossing ( drag racing with curves) Hill climbing on roads not dirt, Some drag racing and some street driving. I enjoy the part hunting to build this car. Oh, am trying to do this with factory parts. It's been fun, ,,, I do think you did one thing you should change.. When you cut the bolt flange off the Lakewood bellhousing. The bell housing was completely weakened. I believe you should put a flange on for a single bolt the middle of the big spans that you left unsupported. Thus you would be adding back 2 bolts and the small flange material. But you add safety back into that product..... As always I enjoy your vidoes.. Full of great information.

I would say that going to a junkyard and getting a stock engine and making more power by doing whatever you can spending the least amount of money is also hotrodding. I just bought a pretty much pristine 350 4-bolt main from the yard for 200 bucks. I have a bunch of stuff lying around from a previous build that I am going to use to put it back together and make some power. It's a mid 80's TBI engine low compression, I have a set of trickflow Super 23 heads with 56 cc chambers but they are only 175 cc's and have 1.94 intake valves. I am sure they would make more power than the swirl port heads that came factory with it. I also have an edlebrock 2101 intake, and edlebrock 1406 carb, and pretty much everything to improve and reassemble this engine minus a cam shaft and lifters. It's going to be fun putting this thing back together.

To this generation of gearheads, sit down and listen. Uncle Tony is gonna learn you something.

I did this same thing with my 84 monte ss I used to call it the Swiss cow because it was white and primer and everything I could cut off the car I did until I hit my goal of mid 6s in the 1/8 mile on pump gas at the sacrifice of my poor car which rhe last pass I ever did buckled the roof and that was that this was in the late 90s also when 6s on a pump gas 355 was like a tech inspectors wet dream to find a nos plate i never had to disqualify me from running na

Hot rodding is about solving problems, making things work. Speaking of efficiency, you should modify that harbor freight welder so it's not AC. I did it to mine and the welds are night and day. Penetration and consistency is so much better it's stupid. For the price of a rectifier and a capacitor and some old wire, you can get some really good welds on fairly thick metal.

you want to talk efficiency? I knew a guy back in the 80's running a duster who ran a .501 light every fucking time. He was a machine. He got Chrysler to sponsor him by giving him a RTX Hemi car that he pulled on a trailer to shows. Lucky bastard to boot. God i miss the mopar crew from back in the day.

There's gotta be a pound or so in the hubcaps, and they're sure not needed on the track. Weigh the car without them - when you hit the track, just leave them with your tools - then put them back on when you're done. Can't hurt, amiright? :-)
