JTR Captivator 4000 or PSA S7201? I have the green light from my wife for a one time splurge. Looking for the out of this world lows and low distortion primarily for home theatre but kids will use for music in the basement. Or should I look in a completely different direction of subs. Any brand recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Dude I have this saved in my favourite vids, it always makes me smile just the insanity of such an awesome world class sub, has to be in top 3 subs for domestic market ever built. Dual 18's is the way to go if you can fit it in your set up, budget etc. JTR & PSA are the best. What did you decide to do with your sub issues after this vid would be interested to hear from you. I had a really nice setup that took years to build and my ex sold it all. not home theatre just for music. a inherited mc2105. Rotel cd player and turntable with shure stylus. home made speakers using scanspeak and Dynaudio drivers with made by hand crossovers

this is pretty funny. I built a sub a few years ago using (2) 12" TC sounds (some of best drivers out there, too bad they went out of business) in a vertical arraignment like yours, but mine is a sealed enclosure (more designed for home audio accuracy) and in Zebra wood, that i stained in rosewood to match my B&W 804 Nautilus speakers. It took a ton of time and I wanted to get it perfect (as you understand). Ended up spending less than $1k on a unit that is well worth 3x that. Velodyne 3000w seperate Sub Amp with built in parametric EQ and remote. So glad you didn't go the Bose route ;) Curious to see more of your system, audiophiles are dying out inplace of convenience and portability. I'm sure you looked into some of the offerings from SVS and JL Audio. Just wondering if you've tried any of those and if so, why you decided on these. I love a good home theater setup, but that is ginormous. :-) After watching a lot of your videos, my bet is you will getting rid of it in 6 months for 2 or more smaller subs. Multiple subs in different locations helps with nulls. I know you want to be able to hit 10hz, but my guess is 99% of the bass you're looking for can be handled by something like the SVS PB16-Ultra that is good down to 13hz. Put two of those in separate locations in your room and you're set. Let your calibration take care of blending them. (You might be interested in Dirac Live also. Check out the MiniDSP DDRC-88A. I'm curious to see what the quality of that bass is. I'm sure there will be quantity. Also what receiver are you using? Dolby Atmos?
