My brother (USA) had schizophrenia. Similar story. The medications made him so sick he stopped. It took years to find medicine that he would take. Luckily my mother’s house was big enough that he had his own kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and tv room. But my mother got old and went into a nursing home. It took me TWO years to find a place for him to live. He died at age 71, which in the US is longer than most schizophrenics live. My best wishes to Tyoma and his family.

I'm a nurse who spent 10 years working in a mental hospital. Many of those with serious mental conditions end up in this state. One of the biggest problems is noncompliance with medications. Almost all of them end up stopping their medications at some point, either due to paranoia or due to side effects of the medications. I would end up meeting them when they were picked up by the police after being off their medications and getting into a situation where they were a danger to themselves or others. We would treat them with proper medications, and usually within a couple of weeks they were acting normal again. They would be discharged with prescriptions. Within months they usually end up at our door again due to noncompliance. It's very frustrating for all involved. Many of these people in my community I knew on a first name basis. We nurses often spent more time with them than anyone else. They eventually became quite friendly with us even when they were in a bad state. I would occasionally see one of them on the street and they would wave and smile despite their condition. I guess they trusted us to some degree. Most of the time we didn't fear them even when their mental state was bad. Still, we had training on how to protect ourselves because there is always a chance of a dangerous physical outburst with those who are mentally ill, and you shouldn't let your guard down. I remember old Cleon. (he's been dead for many years now) He was a bad Paranoid Schizophrenic. Once I drove down Main Street and there he was, standing in the middle of the road preaching to everyone around....stark naked. Most people around disappeared rather quickly. I knew him well though, and just pulled up next to him and told him to put some clothes on before he froze to death. I drove down the road a bit and notified the police of the situation of course.

Just a footnote for you to consider... he has a personality disorder, however the beginning of his illness was anxiety and self hatred because of teasing about his weight at school. His response of trying not to eat, hiding food, excessive exercise and distress when he cannot do those things suggest he also suffers, or has suffered , from a Psychiatric Disorder called Anorexia Nervosa. It's not always about weightless, sometimes it starts with that, then the need to control his actions becomes almost an addiction, as with his need to do things repeatedly. This is not easy to treat, as I know. I had this condition in my teens for 7 years, now have supported such patients through Counselling. Just a suggestion that may help, if it's discussed alongside his psychiatric doctor if he agrees to see one again. It takes a long time to treat and needs a Doctor with proper understanding to recognise and treat, if he does have Anorexia. I'm proof it can be successfully treated. He may not have this, but he has all the symptoms, so I wondered if this may need to be discussed with a doctor one day It's a secretive illness. Patients will do everything to hide it, even eating rubbish to show they are not starving themselves , then force themselves to be sick to avoid gaining weight . Maybe check food in his flat is not thrown away or hidden, rather than eaten. Either way he needs to be in the right mind set to take his tablets to balance his moods before sorting any more problems, but maybe for the future, as this destroys lives and can kill . Just thought I'd share this thought. Great respect to you and your friends for your love of humanity. I wish there were more people on Earth like you.

An antisychotic drug called ariprozol, given by injection in the butt every 6 months was my sons breakthrough. He wouldn't keep the daily routine of taking tablets ,his paranoia and lack of awareness wouldn't allow it. This gave him long periods of clarity to enable him to see his thoughts and feelings, paranoia, weren't real and not serving him well. Before this ,the battle was draining and painful for all of the family 👪 when the illness brakes through at about 4months of the depot, he takes top up tablets 🙏 plz go to Moscow again and insist for this treatment my dear fellow humans. He now lives alone ,cooks for himself and keeps himself clean and interested in life. Needs assistance in budgeting, cleaning, doesn't leave the house without me or brother, the medication makes him tired,so not perfect but I'm so proud of how far the whole family have come. wrong. The parents have clearly abused him and put on a surface level impression that they are the worlds greatest parents. How do you know his life what has happened behind closed doors? What is more likely to you? That his parents have done everything they can, or that they treated him horribly and to the point of showing what they think of him by allowing him to be homeless and dirty and filthy. Do you not know that actions speak louder than words? You can see the situation, but because a person uses their words to say something you deny the actual reality that you can see. Children who have supportive good parents like they claim, do not end up homeless and dirty. That happens when parents neglect and abuse and abandon their kids, and of course they will always say 'we did everything we can, it is his fault '

Schizophrenia will appear in young men in their late teens/ early20s. I lost a friend, a guy who was a neighborhood kid I grew up with to schizophrenia. Good looking, really nice boy and this mental illness took him quickly. He became homeless and ended up being murdered by some sadistic @$$holes in Florida. I had another friend, a guy in highschool who showed signs of schizophrenia around 16 years old. He swore that Roger Water of Pink Floyd was his father and was flying around in a helicopter at night looking for him. Schizophrenia is a thief. Its steals a person’s whole identity and causes them horrible suffering. Please have compassion for the mentally ill. It’s not their fault.

I don't think he's schizophrenic, at least based on this footage and interaction he doesn't show any red flags of it besides odd speech ( could be because of drugs too if he takes something ), of course you gotta know the person and how he thinks better to even be able to diagnose or put some label like that. What is clear that he shows Schizoid Personality Disorder signs. Schizoid in nice words is basically "Loner" who has no interest in social activities nor relationships or being part of family meanwhile Schizophrenia is someone likely delusional who also experiences visual/auditory hallucinations and likely has severe paranoia and then there's also Schizotypal personality disorder which is basically what most ppl would call "Crazy", someone who dress weird, believes weird stuff, might be also paranoid/delusional, would be interested in social activities but most likely would talk nonsense e.g. that she/he been talking with aliens and they're about to do invasion and stuff like that including spirits, ghosts and various conspiracy theories or super powers they have or others have that make no sense. If you guys are interested simply google "DSM-5 PDF", there's all the descriptions and criterions for those disorders.

Mental health conditions start at teens or later in 20s - until then, the child can appear totally "normal". It's very difficult to manage family members like this - like in this case, if the son doesn't want to stay with the parents, then what can they do about it? They can't force him to stay, so they're pretty much helpless. My heart goes out to this mom and dad, who obviously love and care about their son! I hope the son's situation settles at some point, that he'll be willing and open to be helped.

Having suffered from bullying in late primary school - start of high school, I feel it definitely affected my confidence for a good 10 years afterwards so I see where the dad is coming from. However, having not seen him in person, the mum may also be right that the bullying brought out a pre-existing mental illness. I hope he gets the help he needs and is able to reconnect with his parents. I know all too well the feeling after high school when you want your own place and you keep getting stuck with your parents, making you feel incapable of living independently. I found that after living on my own when I saw my parents again we'd be closer than before. I hope in the same way, after living on his own in the apartment you found him, he is able to rebuild the bond with his parents that they obviously wish was stronger. Great video like usual Sergei and I wish Tyoma the best future possible!

Thank you Yung Pandana, for the best and most graceful comment. I also know the tragic effect of bullying on a person's wellbeing and development. It is só sad. If only it could be prevented. The world can put so much unnecessary pressure on a person, that already has so many challenges, and such a long and uncertain journey with any illness. I was diagnosed with Bipolar2 disorder in my late thirties, and seeing this young person, I can't imagine how he is trying to cope without respect, being labeled and criticized. I hope one day, this young man will be able to read your comment, for it is so helpful and understanding. Big hug, from South Africa.

In addition to a psychiatric evaluation, it may be helpful to Tyoma to consider a neurological work up as well as a screening for toxins such as heavy metal exposure. It would be important to rule out a brain injury, as well as, a neurodegenerative disorder. Separate and distinct from the fact that he may be bi-polar, there are behavioral signals that warrant a look into the matter of developmental delays. Does Tyoma require persistent supervision whether he is successfully treated or not? From a welfare perspective, he appears to be receptive to guidance and help from strangers. The fact that he tends to trust strangers more than family is a significant finding.

I'm six minutes from the end as I write this. I'm not a doctor, but from experience, the time of the onset of the problems (adolescence), perhaps seems that this poor young man is suffering from schizophrenia. Unfortunately, keeping people on their medication is a difficult problem. It happens all too frequently here in USA , too. Not all but many of our homeless here, also suffer from this condition /predicament. Russia's social services, not to mention the less than stellar psychiatric community, leave the Tyoma's in a very bad circumstance. Add sanctions and unavailability of medication (Generic Indian imports are not the same),... I struggle to advise. Only a regimen of medication and therapeutic 'monitoring' can help this young man. He could then live a full, healthy, and happy life. He is fortunate to have loving parents who care, and kind people such as yourself, Sergei. ❤️ Was there a history in the family? I mean ANY mental illness. Any relatives. There is no blame here. It happens. From those who are 'high born' down to everyone else. I hope he can get QUALITY medications that have fewer side effects and be persuaded to take them. I'm still guessing that this is what he really needs, and it will go a long way in helping him. ❤️

After he was already bullied and ostracised-something that equals death in a place with below zero tempretures where being an outsider can get you killed or worse-, you want to give him a death sentence in a medical system you dont really know much about where they could have been doing anything to him or could do anything to him where he has no support from anyone but one aunt who can somewhat understand him and communicate with him, and he may not come out of that place? I have worked with mentally ill people for over 40 yrs. As soon as you started talking with him I thought he had schizophrenia when typically presents in late adolescence or early 20's. The problem with the meds are that they definitely dull their world, slow things down and make them foggy. Most will stop meds because the colorful, maniac and chaotic world is more appealing. Paranoia and hallucinations are very common. Life can seem stable for a bit, then go totally off. I hope you can give him some stability for awhile but feel confident in saying it won't last. It would be great if you could get him to agree to go to a hospital and give his body a rest. I feel bad for his Mother trying to help but not knowing how! Here in USA, We have a huge mentally ill homeless population. Laws are such that unless he is a danger to himself or others, he is free to live independently. Most will not take medication and are unable to maintain adequate housing and health. Sergei is a fantastic human, but unfortunately I think this will be a sad ending.

Probably better 'what appeared to be a madman...' 'Teenager found hiding in Madman's outfit' ... But a madman here in this country is usually a heavy criminal with no rationale or proper reasoning, no ethics or morals, usually a little more tidy as they dont care if they steal your clothing etc, so, I can agree a little about the title. made me watch the film though...

@Pa Ka the culture is a bit different and your approach may actually cause more health and suicide. Treating someone like they still have some independence and they are just needing a hand up, as opposed to a hand out and curtailing their freedom when they are really only getting cold feet and being a teenager, is usually qualifying and allows them space to still grow independently and learn. A simple instruction is grounding and the consistency of language and action prevents a veil of fear or anxiety. It is the right thing to do in one situation, but maybe not in another where the culture is not the same.
