I know they aren't British, so nobody is gonna know them, but my favourite narrow gauge engines will forever be the DR Class 99.23-24. They are metre gauge 2-10-2 tender engines, used on the Brockenbahn, a mountain railway in the former GDR. They don't have a charming little story to them like Talyllyn, they were just 17 engines built in the 50s to take people up the mountain to a radio and TV transmitter station. But they were the first steam engines that I ever saw live, and so I have quite some nostalgia for those powerful little locos.

The Double Farlie fills me with seething rage every time I see it. The reason being that you have big ass boiler going straight through the middle of the already cramped cab, two fireboxes, firebox doors the size of dinner plates, the steam delivery pipes leaked like the Titanic, when you're running you're on the side of the engine with a foot of space iirc, and it derails enough to put Norfolk Southern to shame! Don't get me wrong, I like them from a foamer "this looks cool" standpoint, I just hate them from an engineering standpoint.
