Speaking from experience and the importance of retention: I've carried a full size Springfield 1911 for years. The first holster I bought for it was a Crossbreed hybrid. It was always clear that this holster was NOT designed for retention. The gun is extremely loose in it, however it was comfortable and I had trained myself to deal with it's shortcomings, or so I thought. One evening I got into a scuffle with another guy. He ended up on his back, and I was on top of him pinning him down. In the commotion, my gun fell out of my holster and onto the road. The sight of it scared the fight out of him completely, and I quickly recovered the gun. Change very few details, and that encounter could have gone very differently.

I was carrying with an IWB hybrid holster at the 5oclock while riding my motorcycle when I had an accident. I slid for about 30-40 feet and my handgun was still properly in place and the holster hadn't moved an inch. It is all about the quality of the holster you purchase and how well secured it is on your belt.

Galco has pretty good leather and remember he specifically spoke on longevity. Leather breaks down and loses shape and when it does that it loses retention. Later down the line of this had happened it could’ve went totally different

My Alien Gear IWB covers the trigger guard fully. And I can grab with a full firing grip. And the passive retention is solid. So I have to take this video with a grain of salt.

I have been using the version 3 for a couple years and do not have any of the problems John mentions. I have had my CCW since 1991 (26 years) and the Alien Gear 3 is my favorite holster of all time. I do think a lot of Hybrids do have issues, but Alien Gear's version 3 has fixed most of the issues. I also believe that big bellies and Hybrids do not mix. I am an avid runner so that issue does not affect me.

Fair enough. But I do have to say this…everyone that talks about carrying a gun always makes the joke about having a dresser drawer full of holsters. Basically, holsters are about finding the best one for you, with the fewest compromises. I don’t think there is or ever could be a best holster (except in heaven). So unfortunately it’s trial and error; and the awareness of safety and other facets.

Active Self Protection Extra my Alien Gear IWB 4.0 is the best holster I've tried. My 3.0 IWB is also very comfortable. I carry a Glock 19 and S&W Shield 9mm. Both are very comfortable in these holsters.
@McMillanScottish
@McMillanScottish 4 жыл бұрын
I've been using the same Vedder holster with my S&W M&P Shield 9mm for almost three years. It's leather-backed, with a molded Kydex outer shell. The pressure of wearing it against my body actually DOES allow it to CLICK into place, and despite extensive wear, the holster retains my gun beautifully, and I can get a full firing grip on it when drawing. To each his own, I guess...

I use a hybrid (Stealth Gear) because I live in the desert and got tired of sweat patches and holster zits on my ass after carrying 10-14 hours a day. StealthGear also uses .093 Kydex, not the .060 used by the cheapies. Reholstering - If I EVER have to draw my weapon, getting it back in my holster is the very least of the worries.
@ASPextra
@ASPextra 6 жыл бұрын
But it's not. It's an important part of using a holster effectively to have a gun ready to save your life. You will need that re-holstering on the day you use your gun, and you want to do it in a way that you don't shoot yourself.
@1Ocqueoc
@1Ocqueoc 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed - I would never want to shoot myself. However, I am also somewhat of a realist and I know that when the cops show up - they just don't know who the bad guy is - the one laying on the ground bleeding or the guy with a gun. As part of my job, I deal with a LOT of LEOs and they all have the same advice - When they show up to a "shots fired" situation, it is best for everyone if nobody is armed. In other words - separate yourself from your weapon if at all possible, so you spend less time handcuffed, kissing the pavement, until they can figure out who is who.
@hansblitz7770
@hansblitz7770 6 жыл бұрын
UH, if the gun is reholstered that is better than laying on the ground somewhere near an attacker that might still be alive or have someone with him. Your strategy is "Leave the gun on the ground till the cops show up that way they don't know who the bad guy is" Wow, just wow. Are you a child? People's ideas suck and don't jive with reality. It's amazing someone as stupid as you is even allowed to carry a firearm. There should be an IQ test to get a CWL.

@Chris Bork Check out Hidden Hybrid Holsters or High Threat Concealment, I've used holsters/gear from both companies while in the Middle East. When I have the option to bring my own, or purchase my own gear, I take the HHH. They are made to order for the specific model, also if you have a light or an optic they will mold the kydex to the specific attachments. It uses retention screws for the trigger guard and does not protrude out the back side or into the leather.

Yeah, I’m gonna disagree with you, John. My hybrid has zero room for anything to get into the trigger. It also allows a full firing grip. It also clicks in positively and secures the weapon just as positively as my full kydex holsters *when being worn*. Who cares if it doesn’t engage as well when not being worn? Mine has a metal clip, the same as on nice holsters you use. Mine is not cheap thin kydex. I don’t muzzle myself, and I’m not overweight. So, why is MY hybrid shit? I’m sure you stand by your assertions, but using absolutes to address topics with nearly infinite variables is foolish. I believe I remember Paul Harrell saying something like, “Experts who speak in absolutes (Shatneresque pause) should not be trusted.”

Love your videos, but totally disagree with some of your points on this one. I have carried a Crossbreed for many years with no issues. I have always gotten horse hide leather, and believe it holds up much better, especially here in the hot humid south. I’m also on the other end of the weight spectrum (very thin) and have tried numerous all kydex holsters, and simply cannot conceal them.

I love your videos, but disagree with you on this one. Most of your arguments, in my opinion, don’t hold weight. Floppy? Not when it’s secured in your waist band and worn together with a good belt. In fact the, width of the holster is a major reason this holster is so comfortable. Mine stays in place with the standard clips. Retention? My holster came with instructions from the manufacturer on how to heat up the Kydex to increase its hold of the gun. I never had a reason to do this as my pistol snaps into position solidly. Unloaded and holstered, I can hold it upside down and shake it. It will remain holstered. As far as the kydex stress cracking under normal carry conditions. Time will tell. I function check my EDC tools every time I dress. (That includes my firearm and my holster.) You said your hybrid holster stress cracked while performing some sort of retention drill in class? I’d venture to say any type of plastic holster has the potential to crack, including your “custom made” ones. Your job, as a concealed carrier, is to up your retention skills. Holstering - any holster has the potential of a negligent discharge, if you are cavalier about it. You need to practice drawing AND especially, holstering your firearm. The short of it is, I could say every holster, full leather, full kydex or hybrid has something it does well and something doesn’t do so well. Is this style holster awful? No, it isn’t. Is it safe when used properly per manufacturers recommendations and warnings. Yes it is. John, thank you for your videos. Even when we disagree. Healthy debates are a good thing!

Can't agree with you on this one John, I have been using hybrid holsters from StealthGear for years for Sig365 and PX4 Compact Carry and I love them. The trigger guards are completely covered and the ventcore is properly trimmed to allow full grip draw with no fuss. Love you channel but got to strongly disagree on the holster, especially here in Florida 95 degree temps, where concealed carry weapon is right against your skin, no undershirts, too hot.

I know this is old, but I also have to disagree. If you watch around the 7:30 timeframe while he is talking about his "muffin top" and drawing and holstering multiple times you will notice that as he draws you see the holster and belt being pulled up, until it gives (releases). I believe this is because when you wear the holster your body is pressing the leather into the gun, whish is then pressing the gun into the kydex, and there is a certain amount of retention inherent in the mold of the trigger guard. ON my exact same holster you do hear a click when holstering if you are wearing the holster. Also watch around 7:49 when he holsters he actually gives it a couple of tugs to be sure it's secure. and this is with a holster with broken kydex. As far as the "flappy wings", that's what the leather is supposed to do so that it hugs and wraps around your body. Sorry, I enjoy both of your channels, but have to respectfully disagree with him on this one.

erozpl01 - True store that I couldn’t believe. Had a crazy Girlfriend I had faithfully been with for 4 years, we were arguing, I still had my brand new Pistol at my 4:30 position. I turned my back on her, yup you guessed it, she grabbed it. I could not believe that someone that personally close to me would do something like that. I bet if someone I didn’t know wanted to sneak up on me it would have ended way worse. 2 things happened that day, 1) I dumped Crazy Chic, 2) It cured me of carrying a gun so someone could come up from behind me and grab it. For CCW it’s AIWB or in my pocket, ONLY. An attacker won’t be unseen and will have to get thru my hands first. Look at some of the best gun fighters in the old West, Wild Bill always carried Appendix in a sash belt thingy x2. I wonder if he had a similar happening in a saloon. Food for thought y’all.

Agreed, this guy presents and doesn’t mix words. His points are well made, and while he may not appear to be as high speed as some other tactical videos, he speaks from using stuff and beating on it in training classes. There is no better place to test gear than in a thousand round pistol or rifle class- shit just falls apart, literally. After taking many classes, it’s amazing how much gear (even stuff that is expensive) literally breaks or fails, and not to start a war in this response, I’ve seen more 1911’s shit the bed in a high volume training class than anything else. But besides specific firearms, gear seems to often just fail, usually in the middle of a string of fire where your doing something unusual like shooting while prone or being in the desert dirt, where dirt and junk gets into holsters, ejection ports, etc...love these videos, nobody has the balls anymore to say when something just sucks, this guy does it regularly, watch the Serpa video

I’m cpd and have worn one in plain clothes for years. Plenty of physical altercations, plenty of foot chases, it hasn’t failed. Love your videos man but this one seems over the top judgemental to me. My only comment with the video was that a good gun belt provides a tremendous amount of support and rigidity to a hybrid holster. The retention thing is well-stated though. I don't see too many hybrid holsters with adjustable retention. My Crossbreed doesn't have it. Granted it's an appendix carry design, so I'm not sure it really needs the same kind of retention as a 3 or 4 o'clock carry, but there you go.

I am replacing my Crossbreed Freedom carry AIWB because the thin Kydex has split on both sides and now has zero retention. I don't think Alien Gear has the issues you speak of as long as you get the 3.0 or the Shapeshift because of the steel plate on the inside of the holster. I've never had that issue personally. Although I am looking for someone that makes a full kydex only because they don't have any wml options.
@ASPextra

@LoadsofBacon
@LoadsofBacon 6 жыл бұрын
I have the 3.0. It does have the spring steel internally - doesn't have the "flop" or bend issues he mentioned. I carry a revolver, and there's a "bump" on the base that squeezes the trigger guard between it and the kydex-like material. The retention is awesome and there's no way anything extra is getting to that trigger. The trigger guard is completely covered. I easily get a full grip when drawing. I had issues with the clips (and a few other things) on their 2.0, but have had none of those issues with the 3.0. I agree with his overall sentiment and issues, but the AG 3.0 that I've been using has been solid. Then again, it's the only hybrid I've found that addresses the issues he mentioned, and I have yet to find a full kydex IWB that doesn't do into my flesh eventually. I think their ShapeShift is an answer to a question that I will never ask, and not a very good answer at that. (Even if I was interested, it's not offered for revolvers anyway.)

The Stealthgear holsters also don't have these problems. They're made out of a stiff polymer material and they have excellent retention, just like the pre-Shapeshift alien gear holsters can. I agree the Shapeshift holster is too damn wide, though. Using a Galco holster line to trash all of a certain type is kind of like using a single failure prone Serpa design to bash all active retention holsters.

I agree on all points but the audible click. An audible click doesn’t necessarily mean the Holsters has sufficient retention. I’ve made prototypes where the gun would click into place and then fall out when turned upside down. Also depending on belt pressure a holster may not have sufficient retention a click off body but it does on body. That’s going to vary from person to person.

Agreed on that but a trend I'm seeing in a lot of holsters (including all kydex) in improper retention. That's always been the case though. Most companies aren't phlster and don't test a holster with a real gun or has a repeatable manufacturing process that negates the need for a real gun to test.

(I have no "skin in the game", but I'm always trying to stay educated regarding "best practices".)

Not on actual hybrids. There are a couple of companies that have adjusted to make a 3/4 kydex that completely covers the trigger guard and add a fabric backer that is reinforced that are acceptable. Black Arch is my favorite.

@@ASPextra I'm very new to this, but I've been looking at a bunch of holsters and I've seen something called "lock leather" now. They've started putting plastic retention clips inside leather holsters. Like I said, I am very new to this, but the retention clip in a leather holster would probably take care of your retention concern.

I watched this full video and I respectfully disagree. I have several custom made full kydex and 1 custom made hybrid. The hybrid is always my go to. Your evaluation on retention is silly because as soon as your body is pressed against the back you get much more positive retention and even an audible click. My holster both covers the trigger gaurd and allows full purchase on the firearm. You cannot squeeze a finger in between the weapon and the leather. I have also worn it for 2 years without any problems. I will agree that some hybrid holsters leave a lot to be desired. But saying they are all terrible is a blanket statement. It would be like saying all full kydex holsters are uncomfortable because some of them dig in. The only thing that you said that holds true in my situation is occasionally muzzling myself while reholstering, but that is more of a training issue on my part as I have been known to do it even with outside the waste band or drop legs when I'm attempting to reholster quickly. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and have learn a lot from all of the real life scenarios. Keep doing what you're doing.

Still didn’t change my mind about aliengear shapeshift 4.0.. It has a steel backing behind the kydex. Modifying a Safariland ALS OWB to an IWB; Like John mentions in this video, the thumb release retention mechanism of the Safariland ALS 7378 is the best. When I thumb the release, my Sig P365 will come out of the holster without any resistance. When re-holstering, simply drop it back into holster and it automatically locks with a nice click But as an OWB, it is hard to conceal and all OWB holsters, including the ALS 7378, are a floppy encumbrance as you go about your day. In my opinion, IWB is the best way to carry a pistol. I was seriously considering a crappy IWB hybrid holster, but thank God I saw this video from my hero John before I bought one. After watching this video, I thought, “Why not make my OWB ALS 7378 an IWB holster - that would be the perfect holster”. That is what I did! I removed the OWB belt mount and mounted the holster onto a piece of leather and put belt loops on the leather to make it an IWB. It looks like the crappy hybrid holsters John describes in this video but it does not have all the negatives that John points out. And yes, the thumb release still works perfect and re-holstering feels absolutely safe. After some trial and error, in my opinion, I have created the perfect IWB holster!

Stealthgear makes some hybrid holsters that do have a very positive click and positive retention. They completely cover the trigger and there’s no slop on their proprietary backing material to the kydex. You should try them. I think they might pass your test with flying colors.

I have both stealthgear and alien gear as well as MANY kydex hosters. I prefer the stealthgear. I haven't had the problems that were mentioned. I did have to adjust the tension on both the stealth gear and alien gear like I have to for some kydex. The alien gear clips tend to wobble loose and I have to re tighten them. In general I can wear a kydex iwb but even the smallest pistols tend to print and those that don't are usually uncomfortable no matter the cant or adjustments I make. I've also experienced the issue of getting a firm purchase with kydex holsters as well so that issue isn't exclusive to hybrids. His points are well taken, but it's not as easy as just going out and buying an all kydex holster. I have two boxes of left handed kydex holsters. Each were quality holsters, but lacking in one or more ways. He may be right and I have limited experience with gun courses, but the few allowed owb on a belt for their students (not my normal carry position). I will say that I have had more problems with kydex mag carriers not retaining and dropping mags in public places when I bend down, or working their way up and off the belt clip (I know I know, loops will fix it), etc. Than I've had with hybrids. I've found a few kydex mags with good retention and stayed in place when running jumping, bending down etc. Anyway, in summary Leather, Kydex and hybrid holsters may suffer from the things he mentioned. It isn't limited to hybrid or leather. A well made hybrid holster will work until the search for the "perfect" kydex holster that doesn't print is found for each person. If it isn't comfortable or doesn't hide the pistols well then people will be less likely to carry every day. The stealth gear is comfortable for me. It works and I rotate my pistols in edc (some all kydex) I also have tried aiwb kydex holsters, but with most clothes they aren't comfortable even with micro compacts unless I wear pants 4-6" larger. ,

Not True. However, you can think as you think. Floppies don't happen when worn. My Cross Breed, White Hat and Garrett Holsters work great with the firearm for which I bought them. To add retention to a Kydex holster, use a hair drier to heat the Kydex and push in where you want the retention to be.

I've bought so many holsters that finding that perfect holster is kind of a unicorn. I've had pretty good experiences with some inexpensive kydex holsters. I'm not a fan of leather but I can see the appeal. The spandex type holsters are mostly garbage from my experience but come in handy when that rare instance I leave the house in gym shorts. Pocket holsters are below average but kinda nice for some micro 380s. Hybrid holsters can give you some options and allow a new shooter to try carrying a 4 o'clock owb, 4 o'clock iwb, appendix carrying, and once you find what works well for you and your body type, I would absolutely recommend finding a reputable kydex holster company and spending that $100 on a custom made holster. I would just make sure you have the weapon light, optic/sights and any other aftermarket parts you want on the firearm before you purchase one. Otherwise you'll be buying multiple custom holsters to fit your current set up like I have. I have a a duffel bag full of unused holsters. I basically use 1 high end kydex for appendix carry with a side car mag carrier for my main carry, an inexpensive $40 (but still from a reputable company) kydex appendix carry holster for my other carry and a few owb holsters for my battle belt set up. I actually have holsters for all of my pistols which are dozens fyi.

Here in idaho with no restrictions on how we carry OWB leather that pulls in close with or without thump snap retention is the most comfortable thing I’ve found having the “tactical muffin top”. Just a T-shirt or a loose button up shirt or light windbreaker has got you covered. I’ve used just about everything available over the past 30 years including the Alien Gear hybrids. I have a vacuum mold and have made many kydex holster for myself others that want them.

After watching this I was very curious. I went home and check my ALien gear 3.0 IWB old version and all my firearms clicked into the kydex & locked into place just like your full kydex style before I put it on. Meaning my body is not the retention the molded shield is. I can turn it upside down and shake it and it stays if that a critical indicator of what a good holster is. I don’t even have the screws super tight bec once I put it on I wouldn’t be able to draw the gun. Also I have the metal clips and once I pop those over my belt that things not coming off period or it hasn’t in 4 years. Also all of my kydex shields fully cover the triggers they all butt up against the back of the trigger guard. I can’t even see it. I also have no issues re-holstering its very easy, slide right back into place. It’s incredibly comfortable to wear all day and have had zero issues. Now I have heard plenty of guys complaining about the full kydex holster killing there sides and being very uncomfortable to wear. Can’t speak to other hybrids. I did have a concealment express IWB and was not a fan. Good retention single clip worked fine no better the my AG but it was so much fatter . Not nearly as comfortable so I sold it. So based on this video my perception of what’s being said its that it would not just be hybrids but also full leather would be no good either they will also loosen up and lose there shape over time. I highly doubt any leather holster turned upside down is going to keep your firearm in it while shaking it IWB or OWB.

You should “test drive” an OWB De Santis Mini-Scabbard. My G43 remains in holster while vigorously shaking holster upside down. Phillips head retention screw provides easy adjustment. Trigger guard covered. Leather is very rigid so can’t squeeze finger in. And it rides high and close to body, plus comfortable. Optional suede lining provides protection to gun’s finish.

Just my opinion here, and I’m not a firearms instructor, but I am one who has concealed carried handguns of various configurations and calibers now for over 30 years and yes, I do have a “drawer full of old holsters”. I will say I enjoy your channel, and watch all your videos and learn a great deal from them. However, before discarding “all” hybrid holsters as junk, I think you must first qualify what someone is using the holster for. I, for example, never plan on using my Alien Gear 3.5 for combat, or “running and gunning”, or IPSC competition. I do have holsters that I believe would be much better suited for those activities than the AG 3.5. And, I also believe my AG 3.5 is much better suited for comfortable, all day, every day carry than the holsters used for combat or competition. So, I am a person who doesn’t believe in a “one size fits all” solution for anything, much less holsters. I also am perfectly comfortable using my AG 3.5 for the daily carry activities I use it for, and have trained with it, and am familiar with it to the point where I can quickly, safely, competently deploy it when needed to protect life and limb. I have no doubt that I could trust my life to it if the situation ever called for that extreme. I can draw it with a full shooting grip because of its design, coupled with the fact I have the body shape to do so. I’ve never failed to draw it, bring it to a firing position, and reholster it with any issues, but I’ve never trained (nor do I ever intend to) to use it in a combat, or “run and gun”, or competition scenario. I simply want to use it for the reason I purchased it, comfort, while still being able to effectively, safely and competently bring the weapon to bear if needed in a typical self defense scenario that the vast majority of civilian, law abiding, citizens find themselves in on a day to day basis. Is my AG 3.5 “totally crap”, “a piece of junk”, “horrible”, for the use I am employing it in daily? Nope, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Is it all those bad things if I went into combat with it, or in a “running and gunning” environment such as an active running, tactical gun fight, or an IPSC Competition? Yep, it probably would suck if I tried to use it like that. For anyone who is going to say, “you should always be prepared for those scenarios” because you never know what scenario presents itself, I’ll head you off by saying I’ve got enough wherewithal to understand if I think there is a chance I may wander into a combat zone during my upcoming day, and if I thought that might be a chance during my upcoming day, I would plan accordingly, and the AG 3.5 would not be with me that day. Of course, I guess Red Dawn could actually happen one day and catch me off guard, but I guess I’ll also cross that bridge if it ever happens. So, in closing, I don’t think my AG 3.5 is a piece of crap, for the purposes that I use it. I think you have to define the use and the needs of a product, before you decide if the product you are critiquing is a good match for the application or not. But, that’s just my opinion. I love your channel, and love your videos, keep them coming, these are just my two cents worth.

Part of the reason I don’t like IWB holsters anymore. I only use them when I need more concealment. I have used an Alien Gear OWB for my J frame for the last 5 years. Agree with some, disagree with some. 58, shooting since I was 5, concealed carrier for nearly 30 years, part-time firearms instructor, full-time pastor for 30 years. I have two tote bins full of various holsters.... pretty much, you name it... I have tried it. The past 5+ years have been using an Alien Gear IWB... "IN MY EXPERIENCE AND OPINION"..... it's the best of everything that I have used over the past 30 years. I carry IWB right side at 3:30.... I have never had a shell crack and I carry 7 days a week, all day. I have never had an issue with the sweat guard getting in the way of holstering.... and I practice and shoot a lot. You demonstrated the flexibility of the "wings".... off the body! It's not designed to be used that way! When attached it is very secure.... I use a good belt and it is very "firm". I use the metal clips.... they hold tight and have never failed as of yet. The plastic clips and loops that I have tried over the years have failed at various times. I carried appendix in a full Kydex for a couple years.... hated it.... stuck with it because some "instructors" bark loud and long about it being "the" only position for serious concealed carriers.... well, it doesn't work for me. My firearm is very secure in this holster when on the body as designed..... I am "very" active.... I have seven grandchildren and we do a good deal playing, wrestling, sports..... never ever have I had my firearm fall out or even come lose. When I holster in the morning my firearm "clicks" into the holster firmly (it doesn't off the body... which really is a moot point), it takes a good solid grip and pull to draw the firearm out of the holster. I use my EDC set up for IDPA.... have never had any kind of an issue related to my holster. But.... this is "my" experience.... what works for me may not work as well for someone else! Great videos.... have watched all of them (I think)! Keep them coming!

I bought an alien gear hybrid and returned it after a couple of days. I went with one from we the people holsters and its a very good holster. Added a wing and a wedge, conceals pretty easily appendix.

Wish I listened to this...I saw it, but was like "well some of them get great reviews, so a good one must be ok". Ordered a Crossbreed Reckoning for a P365 and basically immediately returning it. The trigger guard isn't even fully covered and you can easily get drawstring, shirt, and even a finger (I don't have large hands/fingers) into it. The retention is good and holster is super comfortable just trying it for a brief time (not even worn in). Definitely going back to full Kydex with properly covered trigger guard.

I've had a crossbreed for 7 years now. I haven't had issues with the belt clips themselves but one of the swivels has lost a spacer. It is not actually loose from the holster but it allows it to spin uncontrolled which is a problem actually putting the holster on my belt in the 8 o'clock position (lefty here). I have never had to draw for defense purposes (and i pray I will never have to) but I see what you are talking about with the sweat guard. You sir have convinced me to not get a hybrid when I replace my crossbreed. However crossbreed makes a quality product and i suspect it will last 7 more years.

First of all, the shape. It's square. Who has a square cellphone? Is that supposed to look like a PDA? Who carries those? Also, the gun can move around in there, and all that's holding the thing closed is a little magnet. If you were ever involved in a struggle, it would be real easy to lose your gun. Lastly, it says "SP" right on it. I never met Pete, but I don't think he's very sneaky.

You've successfully demonstrated that you don't understand how the function is engineered into hybrid holsters. You seem to have decent knowledge of civilian armed conflict but you just embarrassed yourself. You're lying to your students about a FEW things in this video. You're not preparing them for reality. You should delete this particular video. Save your reputation

It's easy to understand someone being passionately "opinionated" about a product that didn't work... for them. Due diligence, research goes along ways toward buy once cry once. "All hybrid holsters" is a mighty wide brush you're painting with brother.

My first holster was a leather IWB by Leather Arsenal. It was a good one, but I had the same problem with the "muffin top" and worse yet, I couldn't care my 1911 cocked and locked, because the holster would allow the safety to switch off. I now have a C &K IWB kidded (sp?) and it has NOT come uncooked once since I've owned it. Good Video John! Thanks

www.jmcustomkydex.com/ makes great holsters. You can get it with a solid belt loop and top snap for ultimate retention. You can purchase a wedge but you still print a little when carrying appendix. But I think it's the best all around for iwb appendix imho.

You have a many valid points. However, that was kydex with a stress crack. It is injection molded plastic. It is a cheaper and weirder material. Also comparing a production hybrid to a custom kydex. Makes perfect sense if you don't think about it

I have a Hidden Hybrid Holster for my sig p229, p320, and a ruger lcr. All have been in use for at least 3 years. None of my holsters have any of these "issues" other than the "floppy" part. But it's leather... It's a lot more comfortable to wear, and leather gets soft and conforms to the body extremely well. The sweat shield on mine does not get soft and floppy though, it is well reinforced to prevent that. Every holster type has pros and cons. If your buying a well made quality holster you will be fine no matter what style it is. Even a well made and reinforced nylon holster works perfectly fine. To each their own. Choose the type of holster that works best for you in your daily routine. For me, that's a hybrid holster, specifically a Hidden Hybrid Holster.A solid kydex holster, to me, is not very comfortable for all day wear IWB. They are superior in regards to retention and rigidity perhaps, but not in comfort, and you can't even argue that they are. If I am going to the range to train, then I use a different holster. I know hybrid holsters have limitations, but I'm not going to be drawing and reholstering my gun tons of time each day so the downside to reholstering with one is a moot point really. I do practice drawing, but I don't do so with a loaded weapon. Once I put on my holster, I have no need to draw, much less reholster, unless I am engaging a threat.Bottom line is not all holsters are created equal, not even all hybrid holsters. Buy a quality, well built holster and most of these issues brought up are well, not.

Look I am a leather holster maker who used to make those hybrid holsters, key word used to, so I can speak with some knowledge on the subject. You are so full of disinformation, a polite word for it, that I am sitting here laughing. The benefit of the so called floppiness is comfort and not a detriment. It forms to your body dude and that's a good thing. As far as dirt and things getting into it, for God's sake keep it clean and that with Kydex is very easy to do.. I just don't like an IWB carry and Fox and Alien Gear have made them so cheap I couldn't compete. However when I do carry IWB with a full size not baby gun sized gun I will opt for that style hands down every time for comfort and speed of draw. The down side is putting it on and taking it off. That is the only short coming. Remember this is coming from someone who can have any holster they want and has had every reasonable holster there is to draw these conclusions from. But I still prefer all leather OWB for many reasons. Remember they all have trade offs none are perfect.

I can have literally any holster I want. Any. Hybrid holsters are awful and the floppiness is a defect, not a feature.

My Comp-Tac MTAC holster: 1. Has adjustable retention 2. Allows for a full grip on the gun 3. FULLY covers the trigger guard 4. FULLY covers the barrel of the gun 5. Allows me to completely hide a full-sized 1911 under a slim-fit t-shirt 6. Adjusts for both cant and ride height 7. Fully covers all screws/rivets on the back side I once had a Crossbreed and it: 1. Had horrible retention 2. Stunk like crazy (the leather dye, maybe?) 3. Had exposed screws/rivets on the back side against my skin 4. Was ultimately tossed in the trash So there are good ones and there are crappy ones. It sounds like you need to check out a good one before saying that they're all bad.

I just got a crossbreed reckoning hybrid holster and while I’ll admit it’s new and could warp or wear over time, it certainly doesn’t show any of the issues you’re describing..... 1. It’s not floppy at all, the hooks attach to the kydex instead of the leather and there’s very little excess to flop around 2. It fully encompasses the trigger guard 3. It’s extremely tight and there’s no way anything is getting inside to pull the trigger 4. It’s combat cut so getting a good purchase on the gun is easy 5. It has great retention, if anything it’s too tight and I need to use one of the several retention adjustment spots to loosen it So I ultimately agree that a kydex is better, I just find that the reckoning conceals better, so I’m going with that till it gives me a reason not to, so far it’s an awesome holster

So much misinformation in this video he assumes you're a gunfighter or something you're going to be drawing your pistol a hundred times and a day he's pistols are designed to be locked in by the pressure from your belt and not come out there for daily carry not for gun fighting

The protos-m holster by black arch is technically a hybrid, but the kytex wraps around the trigger guard and has great retention. And it clicks in. The sweat guard doesn't block the draw either. The only hybrid holster that covers all the cons you pointed out
