"Man, I go to the gym everyday, I train pretty hard, and I eat pretty healthy, but I’m just not seeing any progress." Well here’s how to fix that in just 5 minutes.
9 Questions to ask yourself:
1. Am I training as hard as I physically can during every single set I do in the gym?
2. Are my last few reps of each set involuntarily slowing down despite me pushing as hard as possible?
3. Am I actually controlling my reps by using a full range of motion with proper technique?
4. Am I resting adequately between sets to ensure that each one is performed with my utmost intensity?
5. Am I doing an adequate amount of sets per week to which I am able to recover from sufficiently?
6. I staying consistent, with a clear and structured training routine that I use to track my workouts?
7. Am I eating a healthy, nutrient dense diet with enough protein that supports my performance in the gym?
8. Am I aware of my calories and macros as well as the overall trend of my body weight?
9. Am I managing my sleep, stress, hydration, mental health, and all other outside factors that may impact my work ethic, motivation, or overall quality of life?

About Me: I started lifting at 17 years old in 2019, the summer before I entered my freshman year of college. I was a mere 120 pounds at 5'8, and my only goal was to gain weight. Since then I've bulked 5 times, reaching my heaviest at 206 pounds, and cut 4 times to a lowest of around 10% bodyfat. In 2025 I plan to compete in my first natural bodybuilding show. Using the knowledge I have acquired and continue to learn, my goal is to help all of you achieve your fitness goals and prove that no matter what stands in your way, hard work and consistency will always prevail! 1:10 This is so accurate, it's great to see someone actually understand progressive overload. The idea of "you need to progressively overload to get big" is a good idea, and it's great advice for beginners because of how simple it is. But so many people get hyperfocused on getting bigger numbers and start to get this powerlifting mindset when their goal is to build muscle. Train well, recover well, and the improved performance is proof you did.

Agreed 💯 proper (HARD) training, nutrition and recovery cause the muscle to grow, which is what allows you to lift more. Not because you decided you had to lift 5 more lbs. I also loved that he pointed out even if you do this all perfectly, you still might not add weight or reps every single week (especially on something like a bicep curl like he mentioned). But if you look at it over a year it really adds up. Great vid Max!

Great video I think its also worth to mention that you need to have the mindset that Bodybuilding takes time (and consistency of course) and keep reminding yourself of that I used to see all those people on Instagram getting crazy gains in under a year, or even few months, and then I discovered that not everyone is natural as they claim to be, so It was kind of discouraging before I understood what's going on, and I think a lot of the new guys will agree so just keep reminding yourself that if you are doing everything right, you will see results don't stress, it just takes time.

Another thing that should be mentioned is systemic fatigue. Max has made a separate video about this before. Systemic fatigue is different from muscle fatigue and takes anywhere from 24-72 hours or more to recover from it depending on how fatiguing the exercises are so make sure you actually get a few rest days in because fatigue can actually limit your strength, reps and the weight you can lift

Hello max! Great video! Whats your take on training using RIR and progressing by decreasing RIR till failure? (Dr. Mike strategy)
@kaigorodaki
@kaigorodaki Ай бұрын
I'm not Max, but I just wanted to say my own opinion 🌝 TBH I just train till failure every set every exercise basically. If you really feel fatigued after going to failure all the time, then make the RIR around 1-2 or even 3 but honestly wouldn't recommend to go even 3 too much. There's also a difference between technical failure and "Muscular Failure", after you are not able to perform anymore clean form reps in a set, do forced reps, and some negatives too if you wantz but just doing some partials after technical failure is quite helpful. Also don't rest too long between sets, around 1 to 2 minutes, you can go 3 if you're feeling really fatigued, (usually happens before my final set), rest times isn't going to make or break your gains, but it helps 🥠

Needed this bruv. Med-school got me all stressed lately, I barely even go to the gym, my recovery is crap and I just intuitively calculate my calories as well. I had to adjust from 4 day Upper/Lower, to 3 day PPL. Seems illogical, since I cannot hit the muscle twice a week, but to be honest, it has been doing well for me, most of this point. I just use machines and dumbbells with 1-2 sets of around 1-2 RIR. It has been doing well and able to balance my lifestyle of being a busy med student. But the only two things I still have fucked, is recovery and nutrition. Which is sad ngl.

Very good video, but I dont agree with a main point you state: You dont need to train to failure on every set on every muscle. That will make you exhausted very quickly and your performance and recovery will drop. Ive seen a lot of content and many other big fitness KZfaqrs point this out quite oftenly
@Clickinqq
@Clickinqq Ай бұрын
It has been proven that training to failure and training to 1-3 RIR from failure will lead to the same hypertrophy results, but I think Max specified to go to failure because most beginners can't accurately assess what is 1-3 RIR for them and will likely stop before that.
@Soccasteve
@Soccasteve Ай бұрын
You don’t train to failure but close to failure. That’s the point he was making. If you’re using mostly machines then yes it would benefit you to take sets to 0-1 RIR. If you’re using harder free weight exercises then it might be 1-2 RIR

Is it probable that I've recomped? From looking at pictures it seems that my legs now are bigger than when I was heavier (9 months ago).
