It's pretty well-known by this point that the strip casinos are much farther apart than they look. It's a common first-time visitor's "mistake" to be, for example, outside of the Mirage, and say, "Oh look, we can see Bellagio from here. Let's just walk it instead of getting a ride." You don't realize you're looking at a solid mile.

Hey all , 20-year Las Vegas veteran here and ex limo/ taxi driver .. if you're doing the tourist thing on the strip , best thing to do is STAY PARKED , Don't take a Cab ! The city buses run every 15 minutes on the strip .They stop in front of every casino .. you can get a 24-hour pass for only $8 , or a 3-day pass for $20 ..Party on and VIVA LAS VEGAS !!

Yep...back in June of 1991, when I first moved here, we parked at Excalibur's. Then later when we were outside the front of Excalibur's, I saw Circus Circus. And it did look close. So we decided to walk it. It did look closer as we kept walking & we did finally reach it. It took at least 2 or more hours of continous walking at 11 pm at night BUT the temp had cooled down to 110 degrees. It was 118 degrees during the heat of the day. We rested before walking back to the car...I have NEVER SINCE walked anywhere in Vegas again that "looked" close.

I went from a completely sedentary lifestyle to walking 12 miles over like two days because of this (my pedometer claimed like 34k steps by the time we left Vegas). I walked from the Luxor to Caesar’s Palace and all around the interiors of both and back. If you were in Vegas a couple years ago in mid June and saw a lady broken down in front of the Bellagio weeping while her husband begged her to get up, hi that might have been me suffering for my many poor decisions in my life.

The prices can actually be incredibly reasonable. Especially if you go during the week. I go because I live in the Los Angeles area. Hotels out here are crazy expensive and they never go down. Vegas is a quick getaway from LA, it’s 1/4 of the prices of hotels in Southern California. There’s great shopping and dining and entertainment. I don’t gamble. I also never leave on a Sunday because I’m pretty sure that 75% of the people there are also from California and heading home after the weekend. It has taken me 8-12 hours to get home on what is normally under 4 hours to drive. Traffic can be horrendous.
@chachuy3221
@chachuy3221 Жыл бұрын
You’re joking right? Las vegas hotels are some of the cheapest I’ve stayed and nicer than most hotels I’ve been to. I’m literally going this weekend and was able to get a room at the Strat for $65/night. In my hometown, a typical hotel would cost about $140 and its not even half as nice. Vegas hotels are generally cheap because they want you to spend your money to gamble. Unless you go to a really nice one like Venitian, then maybe like $200/night for the cheapest room.

The average American can't even walk 50 yards. Americans will stalk a parking space at the mall if they see the current occupant of that parking space packing up to leave, because physical exercise is best avoided at any cost. Oh but they'll claim they're disabled. Gee I wonder how they're health got that way. And yet they associate revving a loud vehicle as somehow being tough, while their bodies are completely useless. They're a riddle I have yet to understand.

Also they hide the fact that hotels are actually long, so you see only the most expensive rooms facing The Strip. If you book the cheapest, or middle prized room, you will probably end up facing a parking lot or a highway the opposite side of the Strip. Be careful when booking in those hotels.

In most cases you can specifically book a room with a certain view. They're a little more expensive than the regular rooms as you said, but they allow you to choose if you want. Our first visit we stayed at the Venetian for a really high priced suite that wasn't advertised with a view; nice looking room but the view out the window was literally of a wall. Second trip we stayed at the Flamingo, spent maybe a little less for a room that was just okay by itself, but we had a perfect view of the Bellagio Fountains.

FYI the Vegas strip is 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long, so if you're going to walk around, wear some comfy shoes with cushion insoles, carry your heels in your bag and change out for photos. (Ex Las Vegas resident) Also, in summer, don't wear thin cheaply made rubber flip-flops/slides as the temperatures get well into the triple digits and will melt easily on the concrete. Bring lots of water and be kind to hotel staff, especially the houseman and maids because constantly cleaning vomit out of elevators/lifts, off hotel lobby floors and sht stained/blood stained, vomit stained linens/towels is not fun. Have fun, follow the laws, please wear clothes when answering your hotel room door (again there are still laws), what goes on in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. ❤

You're more likely to get assaulted by someone trying to sell you something than a pickpocket. Here's another good tip for avoiding people like that. Get a Golden Knights shirt or cap. Wear it around when you don't want to be bothered and just ignore everyone. I once walked past a group of guys stationed on one of the pedestrian bridges trying to catch people to funnel them to a timeshare thing. One of them tried picking me out of the crowd and he comes up to me with the old "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" They always try to get you to stop with personal questions, like if you're with your spouse they'll ask something like "How long have you two been together?" I used to try to lie to them and tell them that my flight was leaving in the afternoon, but I've heard that they hear that excuse all the time and they still pressure you to do the timeshare thing anyway. That day I was wearing my Golden Knights hat, and I didn't want to deal with them, so I just ignored him entirely. As I was walking away, I hear him say, "Oh, you're a local. Never mind." Also on the Timeshare thing, if you ever do get suckered into one (because these people are totally soulless, they'll tell you anything to get you in the door. They like to hire third party people now to tell you that they don't work for any one resort but for the city itself, which is a total lie, and that it totally isn't a timeshare thing, which as also a total lie. It's gotten so shady nowadays.) Just keep reminding yourself that it's always a scam and never worth your money, and most importantly that time is always on your side. Every second they waste on you trying to scam you out of your money is one second that they aren't out scamming a more gullible dope out of their money instead. Call their bluff. It might take an hour, but they'll give you your free shit eventually.
@bmil38
@bmil38 Жыл бұрын
@@whitworth5s248 unrelated but also not unrelated i guess, the Golden Knights presence in Vegas is ridiculous. I've never seen a team loved by so many locals. You won't even find that in Boston or Toronto which are two of the most hardcore fanbases right now. Yeah, a lot of Bruins and Leafs jerseys come out on game day, but Vegas had Golden Knights stuff everywhere every day, and game day was something else.

@@whitworth5s248 I use the timeshare folk for my own entertainment. I hate staying in the same place every time, and a timeshare of any kind is NOT an investment property. It’s a loss every year until you get sick of it and unload it at a deep discount. So I let them blather away at me while drinking their drinks and eating their food, thoroughly engaged and having a good time with them. I know I won’t purchase, but they don’t. So it’s fun to let them try to make me. I can drag it out as long as a movie, and then just pull the plug and walk away. No guilt if your job is primarily pressuring suckers to make unwise purchases.

I love walking the Strip. The heat can get to you, but most of the resorts, especially those on the central part of the strip, are close enough together that you only need to be out in the sun for a few minutes at a time. Ducking into casinos even if you have no desire to gamble is an absolute must on a hot day.

This trick was invented over 150 years ago by Philadelphia City Hall in 1871, which looks like a 3 story building, but was actually 548ft tall (Equivalent to 54 stories if each floor were 10ft), and it was the tallest building in the world for 14 years, after taking 30 years to build. When it claimed the title of worlds tallest building, it was nearly DOUBLE the height of the world’s previous tallest building, but actually looked tiny due to window illusion, and by occupying such a large land-area (like the Vegas hotels).. Fun fact!

For anyone who has actually stayed at one of the bigger strip casinos, you realize exactly how massive they are as you try to navigate the inside of one, much less from one casino to the next. I enjoy walking around the strip, but the distance is definitely not to be underestimated, especially if you wanted to cross the street. During the fall/winter when it is cool outside, walking a couple miles to visit some of the cool shops, see some of the attractions, take the trams, etc is awesome. I would not want to do it in the summer though. Even if you are just going a few casinos over, it's worth it to just take a cab (tip your driver a few bucks for making such a short trip) if you are drunk, in a hurry, or it's just too damn hot out.

The only thing people should be aware of is the Taxi/Lyft/Uber locations are mad stupid yo! The drop off and pick-ups are on opposite sides of the hotels/casino. If you find yourself on the wrong side, you might as well cancel because they won’t wait for you to walk 15 minutes through a hotel/casino.

This is something I learned about Vegas from going there, it’s a car city. If you don’t get a rental car and stay on the strip, you are basically stranded there. I walked to a vegan restaurant that was off the strip and it took a while because they don’t make it easy to walk off strip. I’ll never stay on the strip again, I’m always renting an Airbnb and a car when in Vegas.
