Installing cabinet hardware can be quick and easy. I show you how to install the first handle manually and then create a jig to quickly knock out the rest of your cabinet hardware installs..

I clamped a board on the back of my drawer fronts for drilling. I made jigs almost exactly like those for my kitchen. And yes we put black pulls on pure white cabinets. My door jig had a wider shoe on the edges so I could use it on left side and right side. And I clamped a board on the back of the doors for drilling them.

Nice idea! For the cabinet doors you could make a single jig that has a T-shape that you set against the side so that you can place it left or right against the cabinet door. What I mean is the side piece that goes to the side and bottom of the door, extends to the back AND the front. That way you don't need to make two jigs for left and right doors.

I know some people would frown upon, but IKEA has a template for this exact purpose. It has holes marked for most types of handles, so it's super easy to line all up. And I do have one template that has all my popular mounting places marked, so I don't need to think each time which one's I used before.

Just found your channel today, on another of your videos I saw you have a riving knife for a table saw that doesn’t come with one, like mine. Do you have a video on how you made /installed it.

That's actually the factory splitter that was designed for old Unisaws like mine.

Do you have a link for the hardware used, black, and gold? Also, how do you determine where to place a knob on the doors? Thank you!!!
@OutoftheWoodwork

I added a link to the black handles in the description. I think the gold came from top knobs. Placing the door handles is really personal preference, but I lined the bottom of the handle with the top of the rail.

The process is pretty involved: First you have to leave it laying around the shop. Then, make sure it catches overspray from some project you're painting. Lastly, don't clean it off and then gradually work in some hand grime over the next couple of years, producing a naturally weathered look.

Call me crazy but this seems kind of overkill. I feel a piece of cardboard would work fine, and that potential variances from holding it in place by hand to make start holes would be unnoticeable.

I do say in the video you could use almost any material, but the idea is to repeatably and quickly put the jig up to the drawer/door and have it firmly register against the edge while easily staying place as you drill. If you aren't going to make a jig that does that then just use a piece of paper. But, it won't be near as fast or consistent as this jig.

Why try to measure center to center? measure from left edge to left edge
@OutoftheWoodwork
@OutoftheWoodwork 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean....are asking why do I line the center of the jig with the center of the drawer?
@UnholiestJedi
@UnholiestJedi 3 жыл бұрын
@@OutoftheWoodwork No, measuring center to center accurately in real world applications like what you show in determining the span of the hardware posts is very difficult. In high school we learned that if two holes are the same dimension, you could measure from say the left edge of one to the left edge of the other and that would equal the center to center distance. Granted, for holes that small the difference is likely not significant, but for larger holes, it could make a big difference.
@OutoftheWoodwork
@OutoftheWoodwork 3 жыл бұрын
@@UnholiestJedi Gotcha. To me, it's more accurate to measure straight from center to center, but either could work. The radius of each side could be different throwing the measurement off if you go edge to edge. I would rather measure the actual thing instead of a reference to the thing (i.e., the edges). It's not that difficult to measure center to center if you don't use the end of the tape.

@@OutoftheWoodwork You could put in the screws and then measure from the left of the first screw to the left of the second screw. If both screws have the same thickness, that will allways be correct.
