I was torn between the 23 and 33. I went with the 33 due to my preference for 50mm equivalent focal range ... but this 23 is always creeping back into my want list. Thanks BTW, thanks for bringing this lens back up 😀

Got it, love it (on my X-T5, for reference). The closest focusing distance gets you really close and, since it's a wide angle, you still show a lot of the environment. And at f/1.4 you get great subject pop too, it's *really* good! But I reserve the right to still GAS for other lenses, of course...

I watched your videos and ended up with the 23mm Voigtländer. That lens is fun. It has really nice bokeh and is small. I was also thinking about this lens. I tried it out, but I liked the Voigtländer more. Of course if you need the autofocus it's another story. anyway I like your content. Greeting from Germany. :-)

I currently have 35mm f1.4 r on xt5 and sometimes I do feel it's a bit tight, miss the focal length of 23mm on my x100v so I am adding 23mm f1.4 r to my want list. Yes the old one due to its weight and price.. 23mm is very versatile for street and even portrait imo.

I get such great stuff from the 23mm 2.0 around f4 that this improvement must be stellar. My 23mm at f5.6 has the sharpest edge to edge of all my Fuji lenses, including the 16 1.4 and the 90mm 2.0 . I guess I lucked out, considering the stories I've heard. No, I don't shoot it wide open.

Funny, you should mention this lens, as I just picked it up. I waited until I could find it used and save 100 bucks! I started shooting models again, so I needed something in the focal length. The 18 was too wide and the 33 was a bit too long. Feel like I’m using the analogy of the three bears and porridge! 🤣 🖖

I think it will be an issue for Sigma 23mm f1.4 on Auto Focus, Fujifilm always restrict( ban) third party's Auto Focus fuction.

The price of this lens is a bit much but the Viltrox 23mm F1.4 is surprisingly great at nearly a third of the price, no weather resistance though.

@@Iamtongue I can understand that. I'm still a beginner myself, and I got the XT5 with the kit lens 18-55mm. After half a year, I evaluated which focal length I use the most, and it's actually 18mm, even though I've often tried to shoot in the 23-27mm range. But it's probably not ideal for portrait photography (18mm)

23 & 56 are my current main lenses - the 56 is pretty much prescription glasses for the sensor. Any plans to revisit the 18? 🤔

I like it a lot for details... but miss the old version for its more organic ethereal qualities (yep I mean flattering softness). I've never used them before but this lens pursuaded me to enter the world of mist and diffuser filters. Not arrived yet but hoping to take the digital edge off.

Nothing about basically lack of character? This lens has very clinical rendering. Almost the same (if not the same) like any other modern FF 35/2. Those only two flaws of XF 23/1.4 WR - barrel distortion and vignetting, will not make up 3D pop You can get by using let's say.. Voigtlander Nokton 23/1.2 for Fuji X 😎

@Iamtongue ahaha no stress.high five..those are mine aswell.for documenting my family.I usually sit at the 23 if I want wide and 35 for tighter..love those focal lengths.I want to try 18 1.2 too see if I like it .But were also thinking about adding the viltrox 13 down the road for wide travel photos.but when on vacation I don't want to carry too many lenses.so gotta think about that one.

As for portrait do you prefer this lens or the 56 f1.2 wr? I already own the 23. I’m thinking getting the 56. But still not sure would it be worth to add another FL or just work on my 23.

Try the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4. It easily equals the Fuji lens @ 1/3 the price, used. Somewhat soft in the corners and has some flare, but I love the character of the lens and the build quality is beyond reproach.

All these reviews make me question my copy. I don't think it's a bad lens but the 18mm 1.4 looks a lot better to me and with the exception of night being as fast, my 16-55 2.8 looks much better to me also at the same range.

@@SquirrelHybrid Just doesn’t seem “razor sharp” like a lot of the reviews, it looks good, just not as great as I’ve read and definitely not as good as some of my other Fuji lenses. I’d like to try another copy and see if it’s just my lens.

@@johnc4696I’m new to Fuji and I have the XT5 and this new 23mm. My version of the lens is razor sharp and I shoot landscapes. If yours isn’t sharp you may want to do some ‘brick wall’ tests to check the problem. This is supposed to be the best Fuji lens to date in terms of optical quality. It is supposed to be better than the 16-55 based on YT reviews and user comments. My landscape shots have a wow factor with this lens!
