I've been watching Tim since his ballpark 5,000(ish) subscriber timeframe. Back then, I always thought of him more as an artist with an interest in space. His photography was original and the fact that he composed and produced his own music was awe-inspiring. I wish he had time to go back to those days and focus on his art a bit more.

So Friday night and I’m watching your latest interviews on KZfaq. And I see so much excitement for Space and its technologies being reported by a rapidly growing number of excellent channels. Then I wonder what are the growth drivers? Launches every couple of days? Technology improvements related to communications? COVID policies keeping folks home? Tonight it dawned on me that it is Ellie’s enthusiasm and her personal touch in letting people express themselves, is the central driver. She is the glue binding all of these excellent channels. They are growing in number because Ellie makes it cool to enjoy learning about space with actual launches thrown in. PS Tim Dodd interviews were folksy and excellent. Y’all are in the right place at the right time. And you are very talented, both of you as organizers and unknowing prophets. Ellie stay at and continue to be central as champion in your core skill -your enthusiasm and obvious ability to see what’s next.

I love the idea that space is not being limited to fully trained and professional astronauts. The idea that normal people can now be sponsored and go into space is a huge leap from when Christa McAuliffe was chosen and those of us that were kids at the time (I was 11) saw this as aspirational, and now a youtuber could do the same.

I can't shake the feeling that the crew chosen for Dear Moon won't actually be the crew that will fulfill Dear Moon. Maybe some of them might still go, but I suspect it will be a long time before that mission actually happens. During that time, life will happen and I have to believe that some of the people originally chosen will opt out for whatever reason.

@@jay-em why so pessimistic? Each integrated flight test has been more successful than the last. Each starship prototype is cheap, they're just stainless steel and they're rapidly producing them; at the time of ift-3 they had two more starships and boosters basically done. SpaceX has produced two very successful rockets so far and has become dominant in the launch market.

He's on there as the token individual who actually did the most to earn his place, as opposed to being chosen almost entirely arbitrarily. It wouldn't be hyperbolic to say that he's done more than any other private individual to bring awareness and enthusiasm to space exploration in general and SpaceX's pioneering in particular. While I doubt anyone would have blamed the dearMoon project for picking 100% artists as originally intended, since it's their money after all, the optics of not bringing on a single person who was actually knee deep in space enthusiasm would have been frankly very bad.

Hey Ellie. Great to see your professional skills making high quality content. Got a question for you, your viewers and Tim D. Would you rather fly on a StarShip that used parachutes to land the people? Leaving chopsticks to land the rest of Starship The Starship would keep the people onboard through the high tem high speed stages. At, say 3000m Starship releases a crew landing module to land under parachutes. On water or land.

One possibility, if you really still want to pursue flying in space, is to do an exposure therapy training program to reduce your tendency toward motion sickness. I stopped by a Tesla dealership on Wednesday of this week. They must have had 200 Tesla's on the lot. I ask one of the sales ladies if they had any Cyber Trucks. She said to drive around the side of the lot. There were about 14 of them lined up in a row. I got out and looked at a couple that were parked by themselves. The tires on them looked like something the army world buy. All the truck needed was a 50 caliber gun mounted on the roof. I did not open the door and look in but one of the trucks did have it's cargo bed's cover open. There was enough room to fit a 8KW gasoline generator so you will not have range anxiety.

The perception that Tim doesn't post videos very often comes from his hardcore viewers who, during the production of his longer videos like on Russian rocket engines, heard Tim remark a lot on how long it was taking him. Also, they/we don't pay much attention to the recent ones he made for beginners, like why don't they launch from the tops of mountain or from airplanes. Inaccurate or unfair judging? Pretty much, but I hope this explains the some of the mystery.

Dear Moon will never happen. SpaceX is far behind in its NASA contract and requirements. As Elon has always said: Starship was a launch vehicle for Starlink. The NASA stuff was just way of getting funding. I mean, they tested the payload "door" on the last flight that had nothing to do with Artemis...and that was another failure. FSD will happen this year, everyone! I promise!
