A thought that appeared between uploading and publishing this video. For clarity, when I describe a watercolour wash I'm referring to the paint that runs with gravity as the water moves across the page, leaving a translucent pigment behind. It's been some time since I last mixed colours on a pallete or used brushes to apply paint to the paper. A watercolour wash would normally be achieved including both of these techniques and so my use of the term might seem odd here. If it's bothersome, feel free to consider it used colloquially and not technically. Thanks for watching! :)

there is a big difference between Loving something or only enjoying doing it. love give’s permanent value and will keep growing until success and enjoyment is a temporary feeling if you love something even if there is a mistake you will always go back to it like it’s a part of you but if you only enjoy doing it it’s very easy to feel fed up if something goes wrong and Eventually you will need to do something else to keep your enjoyment. drawing is an art that needs love not only enjoyment

Sometimes it's best to put aside a drawing or painting that in the moment doesn't seem to be working. Coming back to the work later with fresh eyes and maybe coming to some realizations all seems better or in ways much better than at first it seemed to be. Some great works of the past were done this way, in stages and not in a forced one sitting, you're doing splendidly 👍

I'm just picking back up from years-long hiatus from painting. I painted off and on for years until I had kids, and while I know some artists can make it work with little ones, I couldn't. For painting, I need long stretches of uninterrupted time. When I started back up, the first few months were just an explosion of work, one after the next. It's slowed down now to a more reasonable pace. That doesn't mean I wasn't involved in any other creative projects - painting is just one of my preferred media. Interestingly enough, while I was expecting to have stalled in my skill during that time, I had still seen improvement in my work, likely due to working in other media in between. I also became skilled in media that were easier for me to do with little ones around that I likely wouldn't have explored if I hadn't taken a break. I thought maybe this might help some who need to take a break from painting. I like to refer to periods in our life as seasons. Sometimes right now isn't the right season for a particular type of work or endeavor, but seasons change. That season may or may not return. Like I said, it has been many years for me. If you can't paint right now, but you don't want to let go of it yet, it's not necessarily forever. Sometimes you just need to wait for the seasons to change.

I took a break from painting after I finished a big piece for my first (and only) exhibition back in 2018. I didnt take that break because I worked until exhaustion since I had a deadline or anything like that. In fact, I was filled with joy during that whole period but when I finished it it felt like I couldnt express my feelings throught my art anymore. I havent truly painted ever since.

Your journey in art resonates with me. I've done art my entire life off and on over the past 40 years. The art gene is in my dna and I can't imagine not doing it, though I have gone long periods(months and years)without painting simply because I wasn't motivated or inspired. I've never done art professionally, but that could change. I have been invited to show my art in a gallery for the whole month of October. which was quite unexpected. I'm anxious actually because I have never done anything like that before. For one thing, I don't have the money to frame my art. I have managed to mount my watercolor paintings on cradle board, varnish them, and wax them to protect them since they won't be under glass which I hope is not too shoddy a way to deal with my watercolor paintings. Your frames look great btw. However, I also have several fairly decent soft pastel paintings and the only way I've been able to frame them is with cheap store bought frames. Again, it just makes me nervous that people will judge me harshly as my art won't be in beautiful expensive frames like one normally sees in art galleries. Aside from that, I don't have giant paintings. My largest watercolor paintings will be 22x30inches. Most of my work is in the 8x8, 9x12, and 12x12 sizes. Anyway, sorry for rambling...I'm thinking out loud here. Wish me luck because I have no idea how to present my art in a professional manner and am truly winging this art show thing. Aside from that, I started a youtube channel and have done nothing with it. I need to give myself a serious talking to and get with the program!

Hey, what glue do you use to apply the ready painting onto a board (before putting into the float frame)? I guess that not all glues are a good choice as they might either interact with the paint or dampen the paper.

May I ask what kind of tape you're using? Is it washi-tape-like? I'm looking for a plain white or transparent one that won't let the paint bleed under (what usually happens when I use a regular tape) nor tear the paper as well (which also happens when I try to avoid the bleeding. -_- ) Many people use washi tapes, but all I can find are the ones with bold colors or colorful patterns. Thank you.
