WHY is a dolphin a superhero? WHY is a superhero dolphin in Spain? What does any of this have to do with anything!? ... That's what I hope to answer in this video.

@@toxic0470 Look at all starters from Gen 5 onwards. Only one got the tools to be good in doubles. Look at most of the Mega Evolutions. Look at most of thedifferent regional Dexes and tell me aghain that they are focused around doubles. There is an uneven split, with most of the fights ingame being purely single battles. The battle towers always had the Nintendo Cup rules in them. Smogon Singles is gigantic in the Competitive Scene for Pokémon, with their own tournements on sites like Pokémon Showdown and if I'm informed correctly even in Person events and tournements. And Game Freak knows that. Stealth Rock would not be the strongest move in the game without Singles making it that way. Scald got removed to somewhat balance out defensive water types in singles again. That is why burns were nerfed in Gen 7 as well. To say most Pokémon are focused on doubles, because it is the official format for The Pokémon Company is a bit short sighted

That's genuinely hilarious that the most common groups of dolphins to mess with pufferfish and get high from their toxins are the teenage boys, and also kind of heartwarming strangely? like drugs are bad but the fact that in multiple species the idea of just goofing around with the lads and getting high exists is weirdly comforting

Hi, I'm back to explain German Pokémon names because they are quite awesome. So, let's get started. Finizen's German name is "Normifin" which comes from "normal" (same word in English and German and "Delfin" (Dolphin), fin and probably "Finne", a German word for the dorsal fin. On the other hand, Palafin is called "Delfinator", which is also derrived from "Delfin" but also "Terminator" and it kind of sounds like a superhero name, which is very fitting. I guess that's it for today and I hope you had fun reading this. And also, I want to say thank you. Not only for reading this far but also for the incedrible feedback I got on my previous comments. A lot of peoole reply to my me, adding some things, ask questions and explain Pokémon names in their own language. It's really fun to read and I'm glad, I can make some people smile. Juan Carlos I wasn't Franco's son, nor was his title Dauphin as that title for the heir was only for the French. Franco was an army general who got into power thanks to winning a civil war. That iconic "laugh" commonly associated with dolphins is apparently a sped-up kookaburra call. The same creature you hear whenever a jungle scene happens in a Hollywood movie. It's like how Hollywood also uses the call of a red-tailed hawk for a bald eagle because bald eagles don't sound menacing. Dolphins just sorta whistle and croak. Irrawaddy dolphins are my favorite dolphins because their name is just so fun to say and the folklore surrounding them is neat, they're claimed to have protected villagers from crocodile attacks and are considered by Laotians and Cambodians to be reincarnations of their ancestors! And they look like belugas despite being more closely related to orcas!

16:10 Releasing captive animals into the wild only ends in tragedy. They've become too used to humans and the luxury of regular meals without hunting. The good ending isn't returning them to the wild, but giving them sufficient space, appropriate enrichment, and not forcing them to do shows. (It's ok to let people watch enrichment activities, but it won't be as scripted, intense, or frequent)

I don’t want to misspeak so I would rather just ask: do wildlife sanctuaries/reservations count as releasing captive animals into the wild? Or is it kinda like an inbetween of domesticated and wild?
@AbsolXGuardian
@AbsolXGuardian Жыл бұрын
@@micaiahleigh2449 Depends on the kind of reserve. Wildlife reserves and wildlife sanctuaries can be pretty different, with the later just being a name for a zoo. On a reserve, you won't have to worry about the animal bothering humans with ill intentions or who are even just untrained. But they might still struggle to get food and/or deal with predators. Conversation programs that intend to release the animals back into the wild have to raise them in a very specific way to prevent them becoming used to humans and unprepared to hunt. Additionally a lot of captive animals are physically disabled or just plain too old to survive in the wild (if the in captivity life span isn't longer than the wild lifespan you're doing something wrong). These days ethical zookeeping doesn't involve kidnapping animals from the wild. They need to have a reason why they shouldn't be in the wild (injury, habitation to humans, conservation, or being born in captivity)

A dolphin species that I wished more people talked about is the Baiji or the Yangtze dolphin from China which is now considered extinct. They were not closely related to any other living dolphin. According to Chinese folklore, there's a story that a young girl lived with her stepfather on the Yangtze. He was out for his own self-interest. One day, he took the girl on a boat, intending to sell her on the market. Out on the river, though, he became infatuated with her beauty and tried to take advantage of her. But she freed herself by plunging into the river and a storm sank the boat. After the storm had thus settled, people saw a beautiful dolphin swimming, the incarnation of the girl, which became known as the "Goddess of the Yangtze". The baiji has been regarded in the Yangtze as a symbol of peace and prosperity. So when said symbol is extinct...that's strong symbolism for the region. There were 6,000 of them in the 1950s, but their population declined drastically in decades as China industrialized and made heavy use of the river for fishing, transportation, and hydroelectricity. They are the first species of dolphin in history driven to extinction because of humans. The last known Baiji died in 2002, and none have been found since.

Since you mentioned the boto-cor-de-rosa or pink river dolphin the folklore says that at night they go party with people specifically wearing all white and always using a hat since it hides their blowhole. And while partying they would get very close to the ladies, if you catch my meaning, then at day the would go back to the river being dolphins. And that whole "getting close to the ladies" part is important since the folklore made people start hunting the boto in vengence for impregnating their daughters or wives and totaly wasnt just the much more atteactive neighbor, and they would make amulets out of the botos eyes that protected the user and raised fertility Even in death the boto help wo.en get pregnant

Another connection with the message that anyone can be a hero is that Palifin is a level up evolution of Finizen. With the exception of pokemon that are intentionally harder to evolve, pokemon that evolve through level up will naturally meet their evolution requirement as you progress through the game with them in your party. This means that any random Finizen that fights by your side will eventually become a superhero. Edit: I also thought you could find wild Palafin, but a Google search tells me I was mistaken, so I have now deleted the part about Palifin being findable as an already evolved wild pokemon.

10:59 Meanwhile Japanese superheroes just use wrist, belt or gun devices to change on the spot. Even Toku Spider-Man could launch his costume out of his wrist changer, somehow instantly switching into. The Flash even got a ring that was basically the same as Toku Spider-Man's wrist changer too but of course it's obvious how he changed into it (though Wally eventually managed to somehow manifest his costume out of the Speed Force instead and Tanaka Rei of Earth-D used a pen instead of a ring, not sure how that worked, it's a costume, not the Thunderbolt).

I will also add that Atlantis as described by Plato was on or near the Southwest coast of Spain. It is not far fetched that the myth could have been inspired by a real Spanish city that sank into the Atlantic, like Tartessos (Tarshish in the book of Jonah in the Bible). Both DC & Marvel have the king of Atlantis as one of their earliest & most well-known superheroes; Aquaman & Namor. Also, Tarshish in the Bible was famous for its yellow topaz, Spain still is famous for yellow topaz today… just like how Paldea is known for its colorful Terastal gemstones. also the blueberry school in the DLC is underwater, yes, primarily like the Japanese myth of the dragon palace, but also like Atlantis.

There was a Park in Chicago where the workers taught the dolphins to bring them bottles and sheets of foil/paper for extra fish. And they would get extra Fish for scaring away(?)/catching seagulls from their enclosures. ... *SO THE DOLPHINS DEVELOPED CAPITALISM!* ••• So the Dolphins would take fish to the surface of the water, lure in seagulls and steal scraps from the gulls. They would then keep the trash hidden in large amounts in their enclosures, they would take little amounts of trash back to the employees with more trash, get more fish, and attract more seagulls... Etc., etc.

To be fair, that was a freshwater river dolphin. Referred to as a Boto in the episode, I believe it refers to a myth more common called the Encantado, if you looked it up on Wikipedia. Pretty much like a Brazilian version of the Japanese kitsune myth.

Thank you for doing this video! I've been looking forward to this one and have learned so much. Dolphins are my favorite animal, I am so happy we finally got an actual dolphin species. And you video makes the superhero theme make sense and even cooler! I actually volunteer at a facility that cares for dolphins called Dolphin Research Center. It's nothing like SeaWorld. It's a nonprofit organization for dolphins that cannot survive in the wild, though most have been born there, that focuses on education for people, and research to better understand dolphins, through fun activities and games. Everything is also done for the dolphins' own enjoyment, guests can even interact and swim with them. And instead of tanks, the dolphins live in lagoons in the Gulf of Mexico. Yes there are fences to keep out predators, but not so tall for the dolphins to leave on their own if they want to. The dolphins are even given vitamins, specific diets, and more to make sure they have happy and healthy lives. Didn't mean to go on promotional, but I would like people to know there are facilities out there who do take excellent care of these amazing animals.

Really love how they made Palafin to be based on a hero, and then there's Annihilape, which resembles AllMight a lot, like the hair of AllMight's "skeletal form" and ghost typing, and the fighting type for AllMight being a hero, the only thing missing is for Annihilape's shiny to be yellow...

This might be a stretch but I would like to point out that the hero pokemon is based on animals that eat squids. And what is pokemons most obvious villain pokemon if not a squid called Malamar. Idk, if there isn't already there definitely will be a pokedex entry in the future talking about the rivalry between these two pokemon, it just seems a little to perfect. Heck, it's a pokemon based on Superman more specifically and what type of villain is Malamar of not the super genius type, which is exactly Lex Luther.

The part about the design being loud and proud and having a big emblem on the chest reminded me of a moment in Young Justice where the adult heroes were talking about letting the enemies focus on them instead of the younger heroes or something like that and Flash makes a comment to Kid Flash “that’s why we wear big targets on our chests” while pointing at his insignia. 😂

Lockstin, you got some things mixed with Juan Carlos. For starters, that guy in the picture with the title Dauphin Juan Carlos is apparently an attorney of some sort, nothing to do with the guy in the other pictures later (the one you were actually talking about), Juan Carlos I de Borbón, King of Spain. Who also wasn't Franco's son, but Juan de Borbón's, who was supposed to take the throne, but didn't due to the dictatorship. Some say Franco did treat Juan Carlos favorably, maybe even like a son, and in fact it was Franco himself who decided to put Juan Carlos back on the throne after his death. But they weren't related. Juan Carlos was later seen as a hero for mediating and avoiding another coup.

Great video Lockstin I love how you go the extra mile to find all those connections ❣️ just a few notes as an spanish guy: - Juan Carlos is not Franco's son, he is a descendant of the king that was dethroned by the Republic that Franco fought and won against in the Spanish Civil War. - And Juan Carlos being the Spanish hero... I mean, it's an imposed king that the people were pretty much obligated to accept and the thing is, he installed democracy bc with its history and the European scene Spain wouldn't have survived as an authoritarian regime that didn't trade with the rest of democracies. I guess you had to simplify a lot of things to fit everything in a video, but, I hope this clears some stuff PD: gotta say I didn't think I was going to see Franco's face in a video about my new fav Pokémon lmao

Also imagine Finizen going like Fini Fini, Finizen, and Palafin like Pala Pala, Palafin, the other Finizen would think it sounds weird, also being the only one with a heart on it's chest... Nah, they could at least make them bigger, darker and add a couple of small details to tell them apart. Nothing to work their heads off, something simple like Voltorb to Electrode, but something, actually.
