There is not an era of music more nostalgic for me than the early 2000s. Pop Punk and Alternative Rock was all over the radio, emo fashion was a total vibe, and there was no shortage of hooky drop d guitar riffs. I was 13 years old in 2005, and got live through the peak of Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Switchfoot, The All-American Rejects, Relient K, Jimmy Eat World and so many more. And since the 2000s still inspire me to play guitar today, I created this Quad Cortex preset to capture the sounds of 2000s Pop Punk and Alternative Rock.
In this video, I'm doing a deep dive into the JM Pop Punk Preset; demonstrating how it sounds with a variety of pick up types: single coil, humbucker, filtertron; and how it sounds with different guitar types like the Fender Telecaster, Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul, and Gretsch White Falcon. We'll dive into how the FX Blocks, Pedal Captures, and Amp Captures work together to create a wide variety of tones.
Seriously, it may be called a pop punk preset but it does so much more! I've included some of my go-to modulation tones like chorus, tremolo, and time based FX like delay and reverb. As you'll hear in this video, you can get everything from those big amp distortion tones to delicate, ambient, almost worship-guitar-esc guitar sounds. This preset actually has the most FX blocks programmed into of all of my presets currently... So there are a tone of textures to play with.
