Nhl news today - Former vegas golden knights and philadelphia flyers 2nd overall pick nolan patrick had seemingly retired from pro hockey as of yesterday, but the tide quickly shifted as it was revealed that wasn't the case. I'll give updates if we receive them, but this nhl news that did the rounds was false and hopefully, if you didn't know already, this helps set the facts straight for you. Man, I really feel for this guy. Can you imagine being told by the hokey media that you're retired just because you decided to use your down period to coach others?

In all honesty it doesn't help the fact that the hockey coaching program he was/is apart of, is actually ran by his CLOSE friend/friends lol, he also followed the account for almost a day too before un-following. He clearly was aware of the credentials referring to him as "retired." and then started back tracking when the small foot note on the ig page blew up and had the media questioning him and his family. It was in no way supposed to be some retirement announcement, but it for sure provided confirmation. It's also not hard to piece together pro hockey is just not going to be something he'll be able to return to and probably at any level that involves physical contact.

I had high hopes for the kid, and his name just dropped off for a bit, and out of nowhere this? Whatever he decides, it'll be the best decision for him. I'd like to see him make a comeback, but if that doesn't happen, any organization would be lucky to have him to help younger talent.

I can separate the fact that not hitting on a 2nd overall pick can set a franchise back even as a bitter Flyers fan I have nothing but respect for his decision. I watched every game he played as a Flyer and the kid was really good and developing fast.

Yeah. What could have been tbh. Loved him during his time here and sincerely hoped he could revive in Vegas. Absolutely gutted that he had to retire. I really hope he can find peace and happiness even if it will probably eat at him for a good while.

It would be cool if he just did this to get his name back in the rotation, but it sounds like the camp he was going to help at just thought he retired. Where he hadn't been consistently playing, that awkward assumption was made. I hope he gets a huge break from this and I hope he has a great camp lined up for all involved!

As a flyers fan it was really sad to see this news, but not surprising. I feel real bad for Nolan, he seemed like a good kid who never got a fair shot to prove himself. I HATE when people call him a bust, because that's incredibly inaccurate and unfair to him. It was clear to anyone who watched him that he easily could have ended up being a middle-six player at worst.
@Sleezax
@Sleezax 6 ай бұрын
Could have yes. And I agree he never got a fair shake. But he was undoubtedly a bust for the flyers and that draft pick has repercussions that are still felt. His fault or not yea he was a HUGE letdown.

And the Jets should have drafted Peter Forsberg when they had the chance, so the Flyers took him with the next pick. Apparently, the Jets knew better and took Aaron Ward.You win some, you lose some. It usually balances out in the end.

I used to handle the flyers’ Worker’s Compensation claims at my old job… Having access to Patrick’s medical records, I can tell you, I am not shocked at this. People don’t realize how bad his concussion situation is.. for obvious reasons as well as legal, I am not going to get into the details but all I could say is it was crazy what this kid was going through regarding health issues

When there are only a handful of journalists and basically one or two media corporations, this shouldn't surprise anyone. There's often only one source for news on anything anymore in an age where billions have uninformed opinions.

Yes, but it wasn't because of a lack of talent. Just a bunch of bad luck similar to Crosby getting a concussion during the prime of his career. He had a lot of potential to be a good top-6 forward if it weren't for the concussion.
