I'm riding 108 miles from Essex to Birmingham to spend the weekend working at The Photography Show. Did I bite of more than I could chew though?

That's a huge effort Pete, well done. Nice to see one of my familiar riding routes through Salcey Forest in Northants. I notice on Strava the route took you through a few town and city centres, I imagine Coventry wasn't the most scenic part in the rain and failing light!
@petertreadway
@petertreadway 4 ай бұрын
Cheers Neil, yeh it was a real mental struggle but felt great to have done it once I'd got there! As for Salcey Forest, it was only when I rode out of it that I realised it was the only part of the ride where there was no wind! I wished I'd have been able to ride through it all day! 😂 And yeh, I must admit that my sense of humour began to fail around the point I hit Coventry, with about an hour still to go! Although I had a slight lift in mood when I realised I would be going through Binley and then managed to get a pic of the bike outside the brief viral sensation 'Mega Chippy', as my son spent about a month singing the 'Billy Mega Chippy' song! If you have no idea what I'm talking about (and I really wouldn't blame you if you don't!) then search the place up on TikTok! 😂

The challenges you overcame is what makes it an adventure, it is the type of fun that is delayed. You feel it more after completion, Congratulations making it. In case you have not figured it out yet Yes Rims for 700 road/tires and 29 inch MTB do have the same ETRTO Bead Seat Diameter - of 622 mm. How they differ is the outer diameter of the tire. a 29 MTB tire is 29 inches = 736.6 mm outer diameter of tire, but the a 700c will basically have a 36 mm smaller tire diameter. The fork for a 29er MTB will differ in measurements Primarily in the fork to crown measurement, The extra clearance your fork has is for the tire, more than the rim.

Couldn't;t agree more, Bob. We often talk about 'Type 2 fun' in our cycling group. You definitely feel the satisfaction after rides like this though. And yes, I've since learnt that the fork is to replace an MTB suspension fork to keep the correct geometry! Every day's a school day! 😉 Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Loved that Peter - chapeau! Would I ride with that weight? Nooooo!!! I do enjoy a long distance ride though, although I'd have built in at least one, if not two café stops on a ride of that length; it isn't necessary to stop for long but the anticipation and restorative effect of a hot cuppa and a sarnie is great for morale. PS - I'll bet that's not your rig for the DD😂.

Cheers Rob. I honestly don’t think it would be too bad if there were a group doing it at the same weight but on your own, trying to push it to keep to a time limit, it took its toll! As for DD, absolutely not. 😂. I’ll very much be doing that on my lightweight carbon bike. 👌🏻

Hi Peter! Greetings from Portugal! In relation to what you said in your video about the fork you bought on Aliexpress, I can tell you that I also went through the same thing, when I converted from a hybrid MTB bike to a gravel bike, I also bought a fork on Amazon in size 27.5 because I also thought the 29 extreme was big. Still, I should have bought a 26, because as ridiculous as it seems, a 700c wheel would fit just fine. I don't know why they do this, but it's Chinese material...you can't ask for more for the money it costs. Regarding your fork, I think you should use that size, because it's too high, and considering that it's carbon, it could break because the angle is too big. And you also have to take into account that your bike weighs a lot, and when you add more weight to it, you have to take that into account. It's just advice, you should buy a size 26. A hug and congratulations on the videos!
@petertreadway
@petertreadway 3 ай бұрын
Hi Rui, thanks for the comment. It’s always great to hear from people watching my videos outside the UK. 👌🏻 Regards the fork, since putting this video out, I’ve learnt from other viewers that the fork is so tall, as it supposed to be used as a replacement for a mountain bike suspension fork, which also has a high clearance. Made complete sense as soon as someone else said it 😂 Looking at the listed measurements on the other sized forks, a 26” one would seem to be the best fit but again, only because a 26” suspension fork would have high enough clearance for that size wheel. So a 26” rigid replacement fork would fit a 700c wheel perfectly. As they are so cheap, I may well buy a smaller fork to test in a future video. Thanks so much again for the comment though and for taking the time to watch. ⭐️
@andrewwhite3089
@andrewwhite3089 4 ай бұрын
I think that fork is probably to replace a suspension 29er fork and has clearance to compensate for the "travel" Axle to crown measurement of the old fork is what is used when buying a new one to get them roughly the same. I found this out buying a non corrected one that was the reverse of your problem!
@petertreadway
@petertreadway 4 ай бұрын

Well done Mr Treadway. That should help your annual mileage. I broke the 8000 kilometres for my year today. I finish on the 11th of May. I want to do a grand adventure like yours, I live in France and I would like to ride to visit family in the UK. The family are dead against it, but I would still like to try. Well done again, did your bum hurt?
@petertreadway

Well done, Richard. 8000km is huge. The talk in our cycling group recently has been of a big European trip, so I’d be very jealous of your France-England ride. My wife was against this ride too, so I think our loved ones can worry a little too much sometimes. 😂 Thankfully my derrière wasn’t too bad. It was my back that ached most. All better now though. 👌🏻

Nicely done! As for your back pain, it might be that your body needs to get used to the position. I commented to you last week about it in the build video, but I think it 'tends' to be better to not be so aggressive on the bars--unless of course one is racing or cares purely about speed. Of course, this is more a preference thing than hard & fast rule.
@petertreadway
@petertreadway 4 ай бұрын
Cheers Ashura, yeh, you could be right. This ride actually happened before last weekends video went out though, which is why I didn’t acknowledge your previous comment! 😂 I’ll probably change this fork out though, so likely won’t have a chance to get used to the position.
@ashurany
@ashurany 4 ай бұрын
@@petertreadway No worries. You had responded. You're great like that, dude! Was only trying to convey that I believe that if you're body gets used to being in a certain position, the change of position will take a bit to adjust even if that position is 'technically' more ergonomic. And hey, you might even come to enjoy riding even more by being in a more upright position 😁
