Electric motorcycles (i.e., e-bikes) have their place; just like gas powered ones do. But they are not bicycles, even though they are made to look like bicycles and even though they are marketed as such ("you, only better." yeah right). Moving your legs in circles while a motor propels you doesn't make it a bicycle. I think the thing that bothers me most is when people enter into gran fondos and centuries using these motor bikes. It takes away from those who train for these events, maybe hoping to win their age category or place in the top 100. Also, I've seen these motor bikes on trails that were built for bicycles and pedestrians. As a bicyclist, I used to enjoy the brotherhood one felt when encountering a fellow cyclist out on the road. I don't feel that with a poser motoring up a hill.

Every single sportive I’ve taken part in that allows e-bikes makes it clear that the use of one disqualifies the user from any time record. As such, it doesn’t take away from any efforts put in by non e-bike users at all. I just really don’t get the hate. It literally has no bearing on me whatsoever what bike someone else is riding. 🤷🏻♂️
@LVQ-so5th6 сағат бұрын
@@petertreadway So a point of view that disagrees with your own is "hate"? And I haven't participated in one sportive in which bikes are inspected for motors. I've seen them motor up inclines and steal valor that others deserved. I simply want spaces and events created for cyclists to remain motor-free. Why is that such a horrible thing?

Picked up an emtb last December to get through cancer treatment fatigue. I don't like that I'm bothered by how I love riding it 🤣...but the rig is just so versatile. Don't have a lot of time but want to get a quick ride in? emtb. Feeling fatigued? emtb. Need to hit some long climbs on mountain trails? emtb. Need to bike to the store efficiently in my mountain town? emtb. NTL, I usually ride my analog bikes the most but my emtb has become an indispensable part of my stable.

I have an ebike, where I live is relatively flat so I ride without the battery in. It means I am riding a bike about 4kg more than a normal road bike getting more exercise!! But when I go to Wales or Devon/Cornwall on holiday then I whack the battery in, 17-25% hills are not fun and I likely wouldn't ride there at all without the battery. I turn the battery on for those hideous hills and off the rest of the time or the lowest setting where you work as hard as you want to. Huge benefits 😁

Read quite a few comments here about people having built up their fitness on an e-bike and swapping over to a 'manual' bike after a while. Definitely seems to be a great route to take. If it makes you ride bikes, then more power to you (but no more than 250w, you cheating bastards...)

I was overtaken by an e bike when climbing a huge hill on one of the moors during the Keswick triathlon. The lady apologised to me for her having an e-bike as she went by (which of course she had absolutely no need to do) but she apparently didn't;t say anything to Jimmy who was little way ahead of me. When I spoke to him later, he said he hadn't;t realised it was an e-bike and it absolutely broke his soul to be overtaken so easily while he was blowing out of his backside! 😂

At the start I had some snide comments from people at work about "cheating", and most of them don't even own a bike. It doesn't bother me, I'm not buying a second bike to please some salty snobs 😂

Absolutely nothing wrong with e-bikes, you're still pedalling so you're still working the muscles. My wife can't ride an ordinary bike due to mobility issues, so we managed to get her a jorvik trike last year. While she's able to use it for short, flat rides, the weight of it is a hindrance, so I've upgraded it with a front hub motor kit. It's now perfect for summer days out, especially with the addition of an extra battery to give more range if we need it. Big basket on the back too, for the picnic 😁

last year my weight was out of control... i was 148kg. Gym, diet, all the usual stuff was not cutting it, gyms are boring and diet, well, i like my food! So 18th of may 2023 i bought my Cube Katmandu ABS 750. Lovely touring ebike! Started slow, putting 80w of my own power, one pedal at a time. I loved it! finally i was able to do something that appealed to me and at the same time doing something to manage my weight. fast forward one year, i have the ebike - my choice for commuting or easy recovery rides, and i do own a 7.2kg Giant defy allux (bought second hand - fitted a 105 R7000, Fulcrum racing zeros and a 4IIII power meter.) I have done 6500 miles so far, regularly do 70-100 miles on weekends, 260'ish watts FTP and best of all, i now weigh 110 kg and reducing! If it wasnt for the ebike, i wouldn't have gotten on cycling, and although my 1st choice now is the roadie, the ebike still gets lots of use commuting the 13 miles each way! sure, the ebike wont get my HR up over the 120bpm's but hey, days a week commuting most of the times. Ebikes are a brilliant tool to get people out of the cars in my opinion. Now the challenge is idiot drivers & close passes. Rules must change. BTW, i also have a Igpsport 630s, their radar and headlight. not all the bells and whistles that the big names have, but does everything i need! I love it! (and its not touch!! hate touch bike computers!) If you are looking for one of those for reviewing, contact IgpSport, they may send you one without strings attached. Otherwise, the normal 630 (the non "S") is quite good and cheap too. They work fine with my power meter & HR sensors, fine with the trainer & tested fine on my mates DI2 bikes. Thanks or the content! If you visit Macclesfield, more than welcome to test my ebike on the peak district. I will wait for you on my roadie, no worries! 😇🤣

Love this!!! This is exactly my point when it comes to e-bikes. It's helped you progress in cycling where you ordinarily may have given up (or not even started) with a manual bike and now you're riding tons of miles. Exactly what e-bikes are all about in my opinion. I've bought myself an IGP Sport BCS100 now though, but I'm interested to see how it works in a side by side test with my Garmin. I'll take you up on that ride offer too, if I'm ever up your neck of the woods. 😉

While I'm a 100 mile a week guy, my wife is 'only' an occasional recreational cyclist. However, we both enjoy going out on day trip bike rides together (Rutland Water, Tissington Trail etc). While she has an e-bike, I use my normal bike. This 'levels the playing field' re our fitness levels and allows us to cover 25 plus miles together. E-bikes create better accessibility to the sport and anyone who criticises their existence should think again.
