Woodland photography is handled as the most difficult subgenre of landscape photography. It is a good idea to use atmospheric conditions that support the composition. The easiest way to shoot woodland is in foggy conditions. But what if we don't have fog?

Great video and tips for woodland photography. Awesome idea re the mist filters, they certainly add a lot of atmosphere to the scene. You captured some magic images my friend. Thanks for sharing the video 👍🙏

Hi Adrian, thank you so much, buddy 😊 Yes, the filters make really a big difference in woodland. I'm trying already for quite a while with them in woodland, but with another filter system of Kase. But meanwhile the filters got launched for the KW system, which makes things really much easier to me as I can stick to one system only 😉 Thanks a lot for watching and have a great weekend, Christian

A very interesting video. I have just returned from a week in the English Lake district where I made an image of a jetty in Coniston water. I used a 10 stop ND filter to smooth the water (it was raining hard). I envisaged the jetty receding into fog and I knew I could create fog in my raw file editor, darktable using the Haze Removal module. YT does not allow links to other web sites so I will message your web site with a link to my image. If it interests you, I will explain how I do it. Thank you for a very interesting video.

Hi Berny, thanks a lot for your contribution, my friend! De-dehazing is a great way to boost atmospheric conditions in post, but be careful here: that just works if there were really atmospheric conditions in reality. Otherwise it can look quickly overedited. And it also doesn't "compress" the dynamic range like a black mist filter. When the highlights burnt out, they burnt out and you can't bring them back. Enjoy your weekend, Christian

Interesting filter and I may get one if I test the Magnetic Filter system and a cir pol filter for Woodland. But I'm repairing my economic buffer this year after upgrading my Nikon F-system last year to 45 Mix and next year I need to upgrade my 13 years old Ezio monitor to a 4k.

Hi Thomas, oh yes, I know that from myself: there is always anything to be renewed 😊 These filters make indeed a big difference to my woodland photography. So, I can really recommend. But of course, a good monitor is also quite important 😉 Thank you for watching and nice greetings, Christian

Thank you for another excellent and informative video. It was not clear to me, but I assume you removed the Polarizing filter before using the black mist filter. FYI, I really like the Kase Revolution filters, but I find stacking a magnetic polarizer with an ND filter difficult because it is hard to separate the two. I have to pull them both off, then separate them, which is impossible with gloves. I know kase makes combined ND + Polarizer filters, but I just don’t want to carry around that many filters.

Hi David, thank you so much, my friend 😊 No, I used the black mist filter even in combination with the polarizing filter. When you look close at a big screen, you see the silver ring in front of my lens when I was putting up/down the filters. That silver ring was the polarizer. Are you using the Wolverine system? Or are you already using the newer KW revolution system? The latter one has the perfect magnetism, in my opinion. I was able to put the mist filters up and down with just one hand, althought there was a cpl filter underneath. With my photography gloths, which allow me to put the finter tips quickly away, I can also do that without any restrictions when it is cold. I hope that helps. Have a great Sunday, Christian

@@christian.irmler I, recently purchased the Kase Wolverine Revolution. So far I like the very strong magnets. I especially like not having to worry about the magnetic cap coming off in my bag. I would rather the filters be a bit harder to separate than having them fall off. I used Freewell, previously, and the magnets were so weak, I could be assured the cap would not be on the camera when I pulled it from my bag. I bought 77mm and a 95mm ND 100000 KW Revolutions for the eclipse and the magnetic setup made it very easy to remove and replace the filter when transitioning from partial to totality and back. Thanks again for the video. If I add to my collection, I’ll try your links.

Why don't you just use a wider aperture to add a little blur to the background?
@christian.irmler
@christian.irmler 4 ай бұрын
Hi William, that's a very good question, thank you therefore! A subtle bluriness in the distance layer is very important in woodland. I'm considering that, but the aperture is just one component here. There is also focal length and focus point, which come into the game. Sometimes there are also quite close elements in the foreground, which leads to a quite closed aperture. And the bluriness should be just subtle in the distance, otherwise it looks to artificial. Focusing in woodland is an own topic. There will maybe come an own video about that. We will see 😊 Thanks a lot for your comment and enhoy your Sunday, Christian

A very long advert interspersed with the minimal amount of photography. Good to see the Kase filters stay on long enough to take the shot. they may not after a few months, but Kase will insist you are using them incorrectly . . . .Nice to see that you blocked me from replying - the problem is a maufacturing error they still fall off and Christian at Kase Germany has failed to offer me a solution to resolve it. Think twice before buying Kase filters, I have paid 1000€ and the filters just fall off. If you would like copies of the communication it is all available.

Hi Gary, I'm really sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the video, my friend! But I have to say, I don't really know what you mean, as the ad took just a few seconds. However, to your problem with magnetism: I'm using different Kase filters already for a while and I can't tell any change in the magnetism. The new ones I've got have also the same amount of magnetism as the very first ones I ever tried. I have also never heard from other photographers about a problem like that, to be honest. The only way to change the magnetism of a magnet in general would be to bring it into contact with another very strong magnet. But who would do something like that? If I would face a problem like that, I would first of all check if my adapter ring is sitting on my lens. If so, I would check if the adapter ring as well as the filter is magnetic, by moving it to other metals (but no magnets!). And if it is not magnetic anymore, I'm pretty sure the support of Kase would find a solution. But again, I've never heard about an issue like that. And the support of Kase is really super friendly and tries to find a solution. I cross my fingers for you that you'll get it to work. Thank you for watching and have a nice weekend, Christian

@@christian.irmler Thanks for the reply and the lesson in basic magnetism - my issue is a simple manufacturing tolerance issue, 2 x 95mm adapter rings for the lens hood on 2 different lenses, 2 filters fit well on one, 2 other filters fall off ( the CPL is now smashed when it fell off) and it is the opposite on the other adapter ring, Kase customer service (live chat) told me I am using them incorrectly, (also own a set of 67mm filters with lens hood adapters for 2 lenses, for reference) I have asked how this is possible and have been waiting six months for a reply. But as they are not paying me to promote them, they don't care. If, the advert only lasted a few seconds, can we agree that a credit note can be raised for me with Kase for a total of 100€ for every time you say Kase in the video outside of those few seconds? This may resolve my problem . . . . . . . Remembering a era when consumers had rights. seems like a long time ago . . . . . . . . .
