Hi mate. I’ve got Xbox series x and will buy external SSD to play old Xbox one games. My question is that if the speed 1050 mb/s mentioned is from USB C to C only? Because Xbox have USB port. If USB C to A will not give this speed, then X6 is more budget friendly option.

I bought the Crucial X8 2TB and formatted it using my Samsung Tab S8+ running One UI 5 (Android 13). It was working well and I moved it between my laptop and tab several times and kept adding data. But after copying about over 1.2TB on the SSD, it stopped being detected on my tablet. I rebooted the tab several times and checked the disk on my laptop several times. Also rebooted the laptop several times. Also reformatted the drive and recopied my data several times. It gets extremely hot and untouchable at times and the weather is very cool. But still it is not being detected on my tablet if I copy over about 1.2-1.3tb of data.

I've just raised an RMA for my X8 too. CrystalDisk speed tests are fine. But, actually using it is so frustrating! I just tried to copy a 32GB folder and it said it was going to take a day!! And then when I cancelled it, it took 4 minutes to delete the 800MB that it managed to copy before I gave up. I have an X1 Carbon with Thunderbolt 3 Ports. So, the issue isn't there and it works fine with my 1st Gen SanDisk Extreme and WD My Passport SSD. What I find even more frustrating though is having to pay to send it to them for repair/exchange! How cheeky! They should at least provide a pre-paid postage label. I'll be selling the replacement and getting another SanDisk

My x6 is going back to Amazon tomorrow. It's running at half the speed of a old external disk drive I have had for years. I made several attempts to copy my storage drive contents and when it comes up with ' more than day' you know you are in trouble! Seems to be reasonably common problem.

I bypassed the chat with Crucial. I just went for the return and now I am waiting on my new SSD. I heard there are 2 versions of this drive. Not sure if it is true.

You had a faulty unit ... The new one works just fine. I also have the X8 1Tb and works just fine. It was just a product problem that should be immediately solved on warranty.

My 1TB X8 runs around 750-800MB/s with my laptop. It gets around 550MS/s on the desktop I use it with, but it's the desktop holding it back, because it's transferring from a SATA SSD. I have a feeling it's one of the more recent models. I'm sure it would be close to a GB/s from one of the NVME drives, but I haven't tested it.

I don't get it. What if I buy crucial now. So what is the difference between the one you bought and the replacement? What's gone the wrong one you bought?

Its because the actual flash storage is around 50M/s write speed. The only reason you get higher is because it has a front end cache that accepts data at 500Mb/s until its full and it dribbles it into the actual flash. I don't know how big that cache is, but diskmark can probably tell you if you increase the write set until it drops off a cliff. I think its probably somewhere around 4Gb. The same is true for all consumer flash but most of the time you won't notice because its well implemented and the large flash is usually 150Mb/s or more so its far less of an issue. But if you try to copy a 100Gb video file you'll see that you get 500Mb/s and then it will stop for 10 seconds then copy at 100Mb/s for another 5 seconds then stop for 10 seconds and it will do this repeatedly until the end of the copy. What I found for the X8 was that it seems to get worse as the drive ages and I don't know why that should be the case, or why a replacement should behave better - although we have caught manufacturers sending models out for review which are much faster than the ones everyone buys later on.

I just got the X8 yesterday and I’m sending that thing back. I’m still copying 2tbs and going on 15 hours. My external hdd copies faster than that.

You should find a way to mount your camera to your glasses that way we could have a hyper close-up perspective of your face, I think it could be a groundbreaking new style.

I got a Crucial X8 4tb version, a few days ago. After putting about 2tb of data on it the write speed dropped to 40MB/s. I reformatted it using different file systems and same thing happened again. I returned it.

I purchase two 2Tb crucial X8 drives and they are utter shit. Having accidentally unplugged them from my iMacs without un-mounting first they then fail and can only be read and not written too or anything saved unless they are reformatted. Total waste of money and very annoying.

DO NOT USE THE USB C TO A ADAPTER. Using the usb c to a adapter included slows it down to 40mbs whereas without it increases to 1gbs.

Why manufacture always put low end drive in their external drive products. I make external drive using sata ssd it is faster than anything. The bad thing is too big to carry.

These are the worst, their 2tb and 4tb awful, fast transfer speed for 30 seconds then slow as a snail. Transfer says 30 mins and then change to 6 hours.

Does a normal customer without any tech experience expect to do all this?

I bought the X6 4TB on the Crucial amazon store, which cost me $569 CAD!!!! First time buyer of Crucial product. The one I received clocked about 35MB/s, more than 25 times slower than advertised. So ok, I have a defective unit. I contacted Crucial and after a bit they agreed to send me a new one. Except, when it arrived, I had to pay for duties because they put the full value on the invoice, which cost me another $90. This was not what I experienced with returns from other companies over the years, where it is usually indicated that this is a replacement for a defective unit. So I called the company and was told it is "company policy". So ok, another $90 bucks gone, but at least I have a new working unit; WRONG!!!! The new unit was the same as the old one. So after almost $700, I am stuck with something that belongs in the garbage. Nice work, Crucial. I have tried on several computers, Lenovo(i7, 7th generation) win10, Surface Pro 6 with i7 win10, and another win7 desktop. So I downloaded the firmware thinking it could fix it. Both the online version and the iso version couldn't even find the X6 when it was connected. I don't know what to do now....
