This State Had The Most Indigenous Boarding Schools In America

This is what the search for justice looks like inside the state that housed the largest number of state sponsored assimilation schools.
Former Native boarding school students in the U.S. are searching for unmarked graves on previous school grounds and demanding answers from the federal government and Christian churches. More than 350 government-funded, church-run schools caused generational trauma for the hundred of thousands forced to enroll.

It's about time for this country to tell the truth! School history books must teach about the genocide and hallocaust of the Native American Indian peoples. We are tired of being the forgotten and invisible Americans! An Apache & Cherokee mixed blood woman.

It must all come out now. The anger, addiction and so much more that all colonized and enslaved people should be understsood by everyone. We must Stop assuming that we are the ones who are evil. Evil people DID things to our ancestors and the ones who lived passed that trauma on to us who are living. It doesn't matter if each person did or had it done to them. It carries on in our collective memories and in how we were all raised in pathology.

The colonizers also did the same in the countries they took as their territories (just like what the American soldiers did in Balangiga Philippines and the regions surrounding it). Benevolent assimilation almost erased the native identity of those people, thinking that there ways were "uncivilized " and "savage" and the Western ways are the civilized way of life. If they could just admit that it happened and atone for their past crimes, then healing can really start on both sides. Too much generational sin.

If a Caucasian child were treated like one of us were. Churches wouldn't exist today, and now you say we need to bury the hatchet! That's what needs to happen. Tomahawk and knife would be more fitting for the crime. Don't lie to yourself, and don't be ashamed. Unless you participate in the treatment of any humans. It's still happening right now. My ancestors, the Taíno, were completely wiped out everywhere in the Caribbean except one place. Puerto Rico. That’s how my family maintained our traditions & customs that still live all throughout PR. This was done not only by the Spaniards, but the US as well. No group of natives has ever got neither closure, nor justice. We need to unite & push for this along with our black brothers & sisters.

Humans transgress limits and oppress violently regardless of religion. No religion/secularism is also violent and intolerant e.g. how about all the atrocities committed by current Western powers and China with their self professed secular/communist governments and let's not forget the so called war on terror aka sell arms and steal oil to make a few rich, looting developing countries is still ongoing and has nothing to do with religion...

It’s still so disturbing to me that Marsha Small found 222 unmarked graves at Chemawa Indian School in Salem Oregon in 2016, and Al Jazeera was the only news publication that reported in it. Chemawa is still open, by the way. Kids are still dying there. They lost four kids in one year in 2019, and only our local papers reported it. We were all shocked and horrified by the unmarked graves in Canada, but when we found them here several years earlier, at a school that is still killing indigenous children, the Washington Post and the New York Times didn’t think it was newsworthy.

She was physically abusive to two of my siblings. She use to use an extension cord or a wire hanger and beat my little sister, she'd cut her hair off too.

Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting, nor condoning or excusing offenses/offenders. Look up the definition for verification. As a formerly abused child myself I managed to forgive and prosper in a loving and spiritual way, but the people who inflicted many traumas definitely didn't get a free pass. All suffered greatly and died miserable and slow deaths. I suspect it was God's will, I personally never retaliated.
