Gotta commend the courage of the volunteer to come forward as well as Julien's focused guidance through the exercise. Any initial sense of secondhand embarrassment was replaced by the universal relatability to being in an anxiety inducing situation grasping for words. I think group settings like this, where supportive peers with common interest are welcome to practice being more daring socially and try out novel approaches, are nice for simulating real encounters and challenging participants to act creative spontaneously. The idea of sudden improv is arguably difficult though regardless of circumstance. Many may be hard pressed to come up with relevant things to say alone in their bedroom, much less facing a room of people they don't know. Perhaps the purpose of the drill is not to merely interpret the content in a scrutinizing way (although seemingly useful for feedback or "improvement" suggestions) but also crucially to have the subject willingly get involved and make an attempt.

I guarantee we’ve all experienced similar trauma/horror stories and all we need is that relatability to one another to realise this. Social anxiety, relationships, break ups, family issues, health issues, insecurities; the list goes on. We’re ALL human, we need to start sharing our vulnerabilities with each other and USE them to lift each other up. Stay strong lads and message me if you need anything.

I teach voice and acting classes to kids and adults. It amazes me the difference between the age groups when it comes to improv. Kids have no filter and come up with the most halarious stuff instantaneously without effort while adults tend to find it much harder, overthink, and use mental capital on watching themselves instead of engaging with whatever their imagination throws up in the moment. I refer struggling adults to your content

Julien, not sure if it seems like a big change but your material within these last few years is insanely good, practical & conducive to a much needed environment of psychological health. This deeper shift carries everything else you've taught in the past but holds it in greater wholeness/resolution of the individual. It is very much similar to the approach I found myself developing but your vids are such an EXCELLENT source of review as well as learning from angles I was overlooking. There is simultaneously so much attention to detail in this "approach" as well as simplicity because it's rooted in the world of the individual. "Approach" is a word that doesn't even do this stuff it justice. It's simply finding one's unconditional core of simply existing and accepting one's value which often gets conflated with an egoic inflation/imitation. This isn't to say that the ego is fully abandoned but that it is effectively utilized like a wardrobe of personality wherein we are not attached to the ego but attached to our wholeness that then can be animated in different ways without toxic attachment to based forms of self-animation. Thank you so much bro! 💪💪💪💪

Hey I lost my dad 4 months ago and really put me in a tough place I was 16 and my birthday was the week after, going out and partying was big during that time with friends and the sort of activities that I used to love was just so much harder for me to enjoy with the voice in my head. Im a good athlete and got the love of sports from my dad and we watched every game together I started working out daily for about 1 1/2 months now(before I wasn’t very consistent) and have been trying to work on myself. I watched this video and it actually motivated me to call the place I applied for and finally get an interview, I’ve only been watching for like a month but you’re videos really help a lot, I hope you see this and I really appreciate it.

Hey Julien, I'm a 15 year old kid from India and I recently discovered your channel. I really try to implement what you say in my life because I genuinely feel that not caring about what other's think is the right way to lead life. I feel like I put on a filter of being some "cool" or "perfect" guy in front of people while I know that I'm not who I pretend to be. I'm always afraid of being judged and honestly, as I write this I'm afraid one of my friends will somehow find this comment and judge me. But screw that. I constantly try to improve myself by digging into the whys and hows of my emotions. I do have some experience with public speaking but that feeling of tension doesn't seem to leave me. I feel like if I remove my filters then all the people around me might stop liking me and the people that maybe look up to me might stop. I hope you read this because I'm stuck in this mindset of trying to please everyone and I really want to be more than that. I love what you do and love to see you growing Julien all the best♥️

I’m 16 and in a similar position to you. I think if we carry on living the lie that we are “perfect” or “cool” it will get exponentially harder to break free from our persona. I think we both just gotta take the leap of faith, wrench off our masks and go for it cos soon it will be too late. I’m gonna pick one thing out from what I’ve learnt from Julien’s channel and try to implement it. I’ll try to keep track of how I’m doing and then when I’m happy with it I’ll move on to working on another aspect of Julien’s teaching. It’s a process and I think we’ve both gotta realise that it’s pretty great that we are able to reflect and recognise our flaws especially at our age. I hope this helped at least a little. Good luck man

Second comment on this video unrelated to my other one… I wonder if someone will ever just say “nah I’m done with this” and sit down when you are putting them on the spot. Because i feel that would technically be the ultimate way of actually not giving a damn and not succumbing to anxiety. Like being able to flat out disagree with you in front of everyone. And then proceed to sit down despite it “not being the right thing to do because you are supposed to participate”. That would be applying what you are trying to teach these guys in and of itself lol. Cuz I’m my experience it even takes guts and overcoming of anxiety to disengage from uncomfortable situations like this lol. Cuz I bet that dude feels like he wants to sit down but that he HAS to remain up there. And I bet there’s something halting him internally from sitting down lol. Which is the very thing you are trying to get these guys to overcome…like that internal pressure preventing you from doing whatever you wanna do despite the circumstance

What’s the difference between this and being your authentic self?
@McWickyyyy
@McWickyyyy 2 жыл бұрын
I’m torn on how I feel about these. I do see the value of being totally and completely free of all judgement and having 100% creative freedom. I do think a lot of people are limited (including myself) because they are worried of acting like an idiot or looking dumb. So there is an invisible pressure that gets created. And I do think it’s valuable to try and break through this pressure and drop it. So I 110% agree with this aspect and concept. But the other part of me is thinking that some people (including myself again) are just not as creatively skilled. Like even if I was alone in my room with no one home I think even I would have trouble with the rockstar task…not cuz I’m feeling pressure or anxiety. But because I genuinely can’t think of anything on the spot. I would have to give it thought as to how a rockstar actually would act etc. and then I would need to act it out in some way. So I almost think of it as a skill. And some people really are just charismatic and I think their brains are wired in a way that allows them to succeed at these kind of tasks. I really think a lot of it depends on how your brain is wired based on your genetics. Like for example even if someone asked me “name your top 5 favorite anime” I can’t even do that on the spot. Not cuz of fear or pressure…but because my brain isn’t wired in a way that functions well in that situation. I’m a software engineer and I tend to think of things very logically and I tend to dwell on specific problems or tasks etc for an extended period of time which ultimately helps me in my job…but I feel it would hurt me in these types of situations in the video or with the anime example etc. and I genuinely have a feeling of my brain being locked into a specific topic or problem at hand to where I can’t shake it unless I solve it or figure it out…and it’s very easy for me to fall into that situation. My dad is the same way…so I feel it could be a genetics thing. it would be like me asking someone to sit down and solve one of my daily software engineering tasks and then if they have trouble attributing it to anxiety etc…but maybe the persons brain just isn’t wired in a way that makes it easy for them to solve these kinds of problems where you have to get hyper focused on something for an extended period of time. Maybe the person is more creative and more capable of verbally communicating well etc…but maybe they don’t have as easy of a time solving these types of problems. Hopefully my point makes sense. I’m just wondering sometimes how much of this anxiety (which usually a lot of it is) but also how much of it is because the person maybe isn’t wired in a way that is conducive to this kind of experiment. Because i think being charismatic and being a good verbal communicator are skills for sure..but also I think some people are just better wired for those things…just like how I may be better wired for puzzle solving etc But yeah 100% agree and see the value in what you are doing cuz a lot of people struggle with that anxiety and pressure. And they need to break it. So I’m not tryna flame…just more so me thinking out loud due to my own curiosity as to why people struggle up front

You say that if you were alone in your room you wouldn't be able to come up with things cuz you're not that creative yet you were able to write an entire fucking book on here dude Jesus Christ! But in all seriousness I hope you get what I'm saying and while yes some people are more creative than others some people just have a harder time getting it out of themselves.

Genetics and upbringing defo make it harder for some people but personality is arbitrary and it's proven that the brain is neuroplastic, meaning you can reshape it to build up areas of weakness. I'm similar to you but can confirm through experience that consistently working on your creativity, improvisation, and charisma will override any genetic disadvantage. This stuff isn't the social equivalent of software engineering. It's more like basic math. Anyone can learn it pretty quickly if they put in some effort.

@@greyalien4944 yeah I def think it’s a skill that can be worked on even if it’s “harder” for one person vs the next. So def I think these exercises he has them doing are valuable. Like just forcing yourself to be in the most uncomfortable social situation possible and then embracing it and dealing with it

@@Houseofmirrorstarot true. I’m doing this out of respect for the dude. While I don’t feel it’s necessary for me to do that…And I don’t think he gives a damn either way in what I say lol…I still personally like to show respect towards all people by not tryna be negative for no reason..so hence the “asking for permission tone” tone I was giving off. cuz you don’t know how it affects others. Of course you should probably worry about yourself first before others in certain situations…but in this situation of me leaving a comment I have no reason to put myself first if that makes sense…so I’m cool with tryna be as polite as possible ha. But I do see your point that sometimes people (even me as we saw) will focus too much on how other people feel/think and it will affect their own actions/what they say.
