I'm having a rough start on a small stream in Colorado in part 9 of the two month road trip out west. After catching a nice brown on the first cast the next hour was a train wreck. Eventually it all came together and the day ended with some amazing fish. I was hoping if I hiked far enough up into the drainage I might find some cutthroat but never did see any. Ended the day in another dispersed camping area eating a backpacking meal for dinner. See the series on my channel or some parts below.

Trout fishing is definitely hard on a body. I'm a 50 year old welder and the streams are harder on me than my job. Miles and hours of wading and walking up and down steep banks isn't easy. The best you can do is keep yourself strong and fit so you can keep going. Oh, really nice fish, too. Keep it up!

I agree, stay in shape so I can deal with the altitude, mountains, falls, stream crossing etc. And I still usually come back stronger! This is definitely an active hobby if you want it to be!

Stunning fishing! The quality of the fish is amazing, you know I would walk past most of the spots you catch from, its amazing me how many big fish your picking up in such turbulent water at close range, its like a whole short range flick and 3 second drift you have developed, i think its something i could really apply here on the streams and small rivers in Devon. Very cool. very active fishing.

One time woke up to one of those black cows bodies 8 inches out the side window of my truck cap at first light while truck camping and fishing in the rio grande nf, wake up startled by seeing the body my first thought was a bear! Then see the dopey cow face looking in the back window of my truck camper!! Always an adventure when there are cows involved! Looks like great fishing on an epic stream again for you!

Nicely Done! The good thing about fly fishing compared to lure fish is you dont have to worry about your lure flying back at you at the speed of sound when you pull it from the tree I've had panther Martin's come back so fast that upon striking me yes they are hard to dodge anyway I've actually bent the wire running thru the lure from bodily impacts eye protection always a good idea I figger that letting the first fish go would sort of nullify the curse relax!

Great stream! I do love browns, and those were quality fish you caught for sure, but…. I’m a little concerned of the lack of natives. I don’t know the area, but I would assume that cut’s or rainbows would had been the dominant fish in the day…. Water quality change? Or maybe I’m wrong and these browns actually filled a nitch that the natives didn’t ever really utilize 🤷‍♂️. Great video again, and I’m enjoying them for sure!! Good look and tight-lines!

Yep, these are all wild. Didn't show any but I caught several in the 6 to 8 inch range in perfect condition! I'm not an expert on Colorado stocking programs but I'd imagine most of these type of mountain streams were stocked at some point and then left alone to fend for themselves. Probably regular stocking happens on the bigger streams closer to metro areas which I avoid!

Haha...happens to us all! So I actually learned a little about that near the end of this trip. I was camped near an old, looked like hunting cabin. There was a guy staying on the property with 3 horses...I assumed it was private property. As I was walking around the property on a forest svc trail I asked him how he was and we got to talking. Turns out, he was leasing the property from the forest service and working for them over the summer. His duties were to ride the trails 4 days/week looking for cattle, tending to any injured and later helping ranchers move their cattle to specified areas. Seems they can only be in an area so long and then relocated. In return, he received a small stipend, remote lodging (no water, electricity, with an outhouse) along side a cool trout stream! Seemed kinda cool to me!

Last trip to a spring creek in the area caught one small rainbow and missed 5-6 in the first three hours on a dry dropper beetle/hares ear. The next two hours some rain came, and caught 13. Days like this are the reason that most fly fishermen go “one more cast,” cause you never know

I can't imagine a stream being any nicer than that one. In the end, it had to be worth all the bruises. Those trout all looked to be between 15 and 18 inches. Must have come from the same batch of eggs.......

It really was a great stream and well worth the effort! I'll gladly take punch in the face for others like it!
