The issue isn't that there's a Pride flag, it's about how she's used it to "pledge allegiance" which isn't what it should be used for. However do agree that you shouldn't be forced to pledge allegiance. I have a friend who's Christian and bc of the Bible's views they don't feel comfortable comfortable doing that, their allegiance belongs to God. However they are respectful by standing up just not saying anything Edit: for everyone debating in the comments let me say the facts. Yes according to the Bible homosexuality is a sin and it is condemned, it is said in 1 Corinthians, Romans, Leviticus and other texts. However the Bible does not promote, justify or excuse homophobia, in fact it says to love your neighbor and to honor all men, in other words respect everyone.

I am not intending to disrespect Christians in any way but honestly I don’t know why it’s usually them who say they aren’t comfortable with lqbtq things, like I understand it’s a personal opinion but if I remember correctly god said ‘love everyone’. I’m also not sure if the bible even says that being gay is a sin (please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m open for others opinions).
@Leo-hk9fz2 жыл бұрын
@@delilahf2821 A true Christian simply would not approve of homosexuality bc the Bible does say it's a sin. However they would not be uncomfortable around LGBTQ+ things nor treat members of said community differently than straight ppl much less be homophobic bc like you said the Bible says to be kind to everyone. And here's the thing, not everyone who says they're "Christian" is a real Christian and I HATE saying that bc I don't want to invalidate other ppl, but to be a Christian you have to follow strict guidelines.
@delilahf28212 жыл бұрын

@@delilahf2821 it doesnt say being lgbtq+ is a sin it says anal sex is a sin. Also disapproving of gay people is also a sin because judging is a sin. Besides eating bacon is also a sin and no sin is greater then the other.

At my school, there are signs all over the place that show that they are LGBTQ+ supportive, and several teachers have rainbow flags in their classrooms. I can't think of a teacher who doesn't ask for preferred pronouns and names. It really does help to have that type of support, especially when you're a kid. As a queer student in a school where lgbtq harassment is common I feel like the teachers should be able to raise awareness on the situation and be able to hang up flags/signs that freely display that its okay to be lgbtq, not only teaching lgbtq students that they are valid, but teaching the other students that the lgbtq is human too and doesn't deserve harassment. I really wish my school would raise more awareness on that situation for the main reason that all the students are in it together, everyone's learning the same material, everyone's leaving school at the same time, beginning school at the same time, and peoples sexuality or identities shouldn't matter to others. Everyone should have a mindset where you treat people how you would like to be treated and only look to see if a person is kind or not, don't judge someone based off their pronouns or sexuality. Sorry for the long rant, if it makes no since i just typed in the moment :)

National pride is just extremely strange to me. That teacher did nothing wrong for saying that the student could, if they wanted to pledge allegiance to a flag, use the pride flag. She shouldn’t have been fired for that. It’s really sad that homophobia still exists to the extend that is does. That’s why we all need to teach the new generations about love and that we are all equal, no matter who we are.

Yes, exactly meaning she should leave up the American flag as well so both are in the room not just the one she supports. The children should have both flags up so they can choose for themselves which flag they want to stand for or both. They have that right to choose for themselves but she took that from them by taking out one of the options & left hers as the only option to choose from. That's not ok. It's "you can stand for the pride flag or don't stand at all" not caring if the child wants to stand for the American flag!? She clearly didn't care about what the child wanted. She laughed when he asked about the flag & said she lied to him & won't be putting it bk up even tho he clearly wanted it. That's disgusting, she took away his freedom to choose. She is also forcing her own beliefs on to those children as her beliefs in what the flag represents is the only option she gave them. She is a hypocrite. She only cared about how the American flag made her feel but didn't think once about how the children felt. That's how it see it. I do think it can be disrespectful to take down the American flag and then not get a new one when she couldn’t find it, but I personally think people are overreacting. It’s very important to make students a part of the LGBTQ+ community feel comfortable and accepted, and putting up a pride flag in a classroom does no harm to anyone. I personally and respectfully disagree with your statement I believe having a pride flag is good because any student that is part of the LGBT community will know that they are not alone and the school is a safe space to be themselves and that they are normal human beings who deserve to be loved and cared for just like straight students. I wish I had a pride flag at my school in elementary it would had me feel like I was normal and belonged there. My opinion: I feel that it’s right for her to be hanging up the pride flag as it helps students feel at home and make them feel more confident and happy about their sexuality.But,I feel that it’s wrong of her to put down the American flag as it shows the disrespect towards the country itself.I understand that she was uncomfortable about the flag being there but she could’ve informed a staff/colleague about the flag going missing or buy a new flag if possible.I am speaking this as a pansexual Singaporean who understands that your country is your home and you must respect it. Conclusion: Basically,the teacher doesn’t deserve to lose her job just because people don’t like the fact that she helped people understand the LGBTQ+ by hanging up a flag and letting her students choose whether they want to support and respect or not.She deserves her job and she deserves to have her own say in this situation.

I go to an art school…and literally nobody stands for the pledge. But there was this one time, we’re I had a teacher and the first day of school, the announcements came on the intercom, and as the page started she motioned for us to stand up. About two students stood up confused but the others stayed sitting, out of confusion. I myself did not stand up since I am not from America and I would never.. and I mean never pledge my allegiance to a flag that is not my own. After the pledge was sited, the teacher told us that tommorow we would have to stand up for the pledge out of respect for America. I then raised my hand, and started arguing with her. Keep in my I’m a 8th grader and she is a 50 something year old woman. I had to argue with her for a solid 15 minutes about the pledge and how I am from a neutral country that does not involve itself in other countries business therefor I cannot pledge allegiance to the American flag. She then asked everybody who did not want to recite the pledge to raise their hand. About 3 other people did so and she interrogated each one of them. She then asked me where I was from and I said the country’s name. She then told me and I quote “I will talk to the principal about this, and see what we could do”, that was the end. But the next day in the intercom the principal told us that it was our choice to stand or not. The whole time the teacher was trying to avoid my glare.

I live in Texas and I'm a freshman in highschool. We "have too" do the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas flag. I'm polythiestic specifically pagan and I don't feel comfortable pledging. Only a few ppl now I'm Pagan not even my parents now so I don't wanna make a "scene."

Yes I think kids should 100% be tough to pledge to the flag, unless their parents who might be from other countries tell the teacher their kid won’t participate. But kids also 100% should respect the LGBTQIA+ community no matter what race. We need to start excepting and putting forward the people of our country not our country.

There’s nothing wrong with this teacher. She respects and makes sure every student is comfortable with the pledge of allegiance. Her students still stood and showed respect during the allegiance, she just didn’t have a flag. She was simply making a safe space for all students by having an lgbtq+ flag. It’s literally no big deal.

It’s OK you can believe whatever you want but it’s not OK to tell someone that they shouldn’t be allowed to be a teacher just because of one little thing also she didn’t say they had too and what’s wrong with being a part of the LGBTQ literally there’s nothing wrong with it but people who believe it’s wrong and there’s people who believe it’s right it’s just all dumb to be honest it’s stupid for people just to cancel a teacher For one little thing they should be worried about children’s education or what they learn in school or what happens in school not you don’t have a flag in your class that’s all bad get to respect your country it’s OK to respect your country it’s OK not too it really doesn’t matter but really getting the teacher fired for that that’s a very low like respect other peoples opinions like you want your opinion to be Respected {that’s my opinion}

I agree that that homophobia is wrong, I think ppl are trying to cancel the teacher is because the pride and USA flag are two different things and the pledge of allegiance isn't for the pride flag and probably shouldn't be used for the pride flag. I don't agree with what the teacher did or whatever but I don't see anything wrong with having a pride flag as well♥️
@Yng6192 жыл бұрын
@@jazzymcsnazzy7727 actually there's something wrong with having a pride flag because the teachers personal beliefs shouldn't be nowhere near school grounds it's like if she had a cross inside the classroom for kids to pledge allegiance too. it's illegal to force beliefs and the only reason we even have freedom is speech is because of the American flag.

@@xoxojae._ she took the American flag down cause that made her "uncomfortable" her personal beliefs shouldn't interfere school grounds at all. The same way a catholic cross shouldn't be there is the same way for a pride flag.

@@Yng619 Ima have to disagree with you on this one. It’s not personal if more than one person believes it in which I bet is the case so it’s ok to have the pride flag just don’t force it. It was to maps people feel safe and accepted. Same for the American flag.
