My intramural team in college, "The 3-Point Squirrels", did this for the entire season. We forfeited one game because someone accidentally stepped on the line and made a 2 pointer, and we didn't want it to count in the books. We made it to the championship, but lost. We mostly just had one guy that shot 50% from downtown basically the whole season, and couldn't be stopped. He scored 66 points in one of our games lol. Great times.

Yeah, that would have been fun for me, until the forfeit. Then I'd just walk away. That's just lame. People make mistakes all the time. Forfeiting a game over a mistake is stupid, and I'd refuse to be part of any group that punished their members so severely.

@B3Band What are you on about? Being the "3 point squirrels" is clearly a joke - and to them, part of the fun (and humour) was being a 3 POINT SQUIRELL. This isn't rocketscience, they clearly thought it was funnier to forfeit - to assume the forfeit occured without everyone being consulted is silly. The fact they still made it to the championships even with a forfeit shows they knew how much better they were, and they knew the loss didn't matter. Take the stick out your ass ❤

The craziest part to me isn't the 111 attempts, but the 40 makes out of them. 36% efficiency for that volume of long-distance shooting is absurd and shows how dedication to any system (no matter how outlandish 🤣) can pay off. Unfortunately for a particular NBA team in Houston, that didn't go so well for them in a certain Game 7 some five years ago...

Averaging 94 ppg in 32 minutes. Basically 3 points a minute. Equivalent of an NBA team averaging 141 ppg. Just rotate, the Rodman’s in, after you score, and the 3pointers in when you have the ball.” Think about all the time guys spend running, and drilling other stuff? Why? Grinnell, when they decide to bust a record, picks a single player (usually their leading scorer for the year or a senior) to go ahead and do it. He got to chuck 70 threes by himself, pretty much, against a bible college the AD scheduled to fill their non-conference slate so they really couldn't do anything about it. Also, he snapped his arm damn near in half a couple games later, hence why he never came up in the news again. He put up 100 the next year, but nobody cares when you put up 109 the second time on 50% shooting. I've learned that when Jimmy shows a chart or graph you need to be prepared for the big reveal as the camera pans up to some insane statistic or record. Great video as usual.

Been watching Grinnell since 2004. It's just entertaining basketball. Imagine watching an entire game where there's full court press, let alone the 3s and the constant subs.

Grinnell is not only an anomaly in basketball, in the state of Iowa, or even really the country. The school is kinda like this in all aspects. Pretty sure they have the largest endowment besides like Harvard and it's in the middle of NOWHERE in Iowa. There's all sorts of crazy stats about graduation rates, attendance, and most notably post graduation success is nutso.

as someone who doesn't play basketball, i have always wondered why things like this weren't happening more regularly. If you know you can efficiently hit threes, and you're going to have more attempts doing this, then surely you get more points in the long run

@Snailz5
@Snailz5 7 ай бұрын
Not really. This sort of system breaks down when you have elite athletes who are well coached and there are huge disparities in talent level among players. If you’re gonna hock threes like this in the NBA you’re not cracking 33% and you’re giving up layups that are probably cracking 70% plus plenty of free throws. You can’t rotate a whole 5 like these teams do because then you’re putting marginal NBA players up against another team’s stars.

I just realised the differences between D Rose and Ja are bigger than we think. Ja Morant has an explosive jump upwards, this is great for rebounding, dunking, blocking and aspects like that whereas D Rose has an explosive first step and is more of a snappy speedy player. This makes him harder to defend. Don’t get me started on whose handles are better. D Rose clears Morant. The refs a decade ago were so much stricter. At that time the league was slightly putting a blind eye to player’s signature moves, similar to what the league did with iverson’s crossover. Morant can run a marathon whilst palming the ball and not get called for a carry, double dribble or travel. This is why D Rose clear Morant more than we think. We see them to be similar even tho they have, in a way, completely different games. I don’t want to start a war so just think about it I have commented this on another video cause I want this to be.a hot take
