Thanks for this Armando. I’ve been looking at getting a set of 2 compact lights that can easily be thrown in small traveling kit. This helped me know how well they can perform in an outdoor setting if I’m in a pinch. I feel that these will pair really nicely with a 300w for a 3 point lighting setup indoors, which would be my other use case. Thanks!

I bought the RC 60B as soon as it was released. It is an insane light. Very powerful, bi-color, compact and easy to set up. It's good to see you, one of the content creators I respect, give this light the props it deserves. (EDIT: When I have it set up just off camera to light me, I have it set at 3% power.)

Nice review! I've got some lights from another manufacturer and initially thought their remote control system would be a gimmick, but as a solo shooter the ability to quickly adjust all lights, from my seat, at set-up and during a long-form interview is a huge benefit. At this point, I'd only buy into a light manufacturer that had robust remote capability. Of course, that limits choices going forward, so choose the system wisely!
@mondobytes
@mondobytes 4 ай бұрын
Agreed, when you're solo operating and you need to make minimal changes and compare 2 different light intensities, it's really hard to see it when you have to physically go change the light vs watching it on the monitor and making that adjustment on the fly.

First off great video! The light does seem pretty amazing for on the go purposes quick shoots and accessibility. However, for $180-$200 idk how I feel about that. As you stated, soooo many companies are creating new products every day With more affordable options and have App access for usability through our phones. I get that the fact you don’t need a chord is amazing for on the go but charging a premium due to that doesn’t seem that great. Overall great product and I can see creators using this but definitely keep an eye out for other products that may fit the needs you may need for your shoot.

Might want to check out the Neewer MS60, super small, all the same features except it has wifi, comes with Bowens adapter, not battery powered but you can use external battery power with NP-750 or 970 batts and you talked about using external power anyway so basically the same thing and more affordable. I bought 2 and love them.
@mondobytes
@mondobytes 4 ай бұрын
I love the built in battery on the Smallrig to me that’s clutch! Looked into the Newer you mentioned and at $150 plus batteries it puts you at $200 if not more. If I want to spend less I’d rather get the Aputure Amaran 60D. Sure, its not bi-color but 90% I need a daylight source anyway and you can hook a v-mount if you want
@Photoloco
@Photoloco 4 ай бұрын
 @mondobytes to be fair you currently can get an MS60B for $134, many videographers (or photographers for that matter) usually already have NP-750s or 970 batteries because of how universal they are, it's more affordable at even $150 than the Aputure Amaran 60D at $169 and like you said the Amaran isn't even bi-color, so I'm curious about the logic there but if it's just a general personal preference than understood, to each their own.
@mondobytes
@mondobytes 4 ай бұрын
@@Photoloco The biggest reason is Sidus link, if you've ever used any Aputure lights, Sidus link is fantastic, that alone I'd pick the Aputure over the MS60B. And that's the thing, carrying NP batteries is not attractive to me, in fact I stopped using those batteries years ago. If I'm going to carry any batteries it's going to be V-mount period which the Aputure lights can use.

The modifier issues and no app support is much bigger than you stated. Lights need modifiers of substance to be mobile or what’s the point. I would love this light in my small studio but climbing over and around stuff to adjust power or Kelvin wouldn’t be good. I will wait until they make a bowen’s version or buy something else as someone will come out with something if it’s not already there. That „sun light“ in the Wide Shot doesn‘t look very convincing, but yeah in a medium/closeup shot you can get away with pretty much anything, that’s why most „youtube filmmakers“ focus mostly on those and act like that’s all you need for filmmaking. @@mondobytes I mean what, 1/8 stop brighter? I don’t remember what you said the battery life was at full power, but I mean wireless? I’m not on that many sets that run under an hour and even if I did, I would still want the light not to shut off mid shoot. A v-mount battery using DTaP is pretty easy set up. It’s already hard enough choosing between aputure and nanlite I don’t know why we need anyone else in the mix. 🤓

@@f0t0b0y 1 hour at full brightness, this light is extremely bright and 100% Most of the times I'm running it at 15-20% which will last 3+ hours lol. This light already saved me in a pinch, we did an interview with Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone for Apple after a screening of their new movie Killers of the Flower Moon. We could not use any external power and had to keep everything super light and fast because as soon as credits roll we have less than 5 minutes to setup. This light was a game changer, although I can't share the actual video I took a picture from the back of my camera display that you can see here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zpu6lx4fycc1zizvec015/leo.jpg?rlkey=sqfgvv7lgwxqratxwqh106dr0&dl=0 Light was at 30% and these interviews are usually about 30-45 min long. I let my friend borrow them for a wedding and when he was done he bought 3 of them. He said he was able to place them in areas that would have been impossible with other lights and allowed him to light the ceremony much faster and said never went above 30%. These lights are game changing dude and I guarantee Aputure and Nanlite will copy this soon.
