Congrabulations! You've invented something us Canadians have had since ... well ... since before there was a Canada! If You're climbing a tall tree with no branches, you can even use a belt that goes around the tree to steady yourself. The belt also means that your hands are free to mount things or cut parts of the tree off or whatever.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndB3lNWCmLHcgo0.html His design could SPRAIN/DAMAGE his ANKLE if his design is like that. Our country has better design, but we do not have great engineering as his, If he can polish it, it will be beneficial

Where??? Yeah, spikes have been around, but not like these. Obviously this is a prototype, and could use further development. The benefit of this design is that it has excellent grip yet does not damage the tree.

@@MeadowFarmer I'm totally serious! Tree Climbing spikes for feet have been around for AGES! The origins of tree climbing spurs date back to the late 1800s. The company, Buckingham, has been manufacturing spurs since then, making them one of the oldest and most reputable manufacturers in the industry. The exact origin and inventor of spurs remain unclear, but their usage has been prevalent for well over a century. They're not that hard to research.

@@Runescope I haven't seen any like these before. Roller skates were around for ages too, but inline skates replaced traditional roller skates. As I said, this design does far less damage to the tree than traditional spikes. I believe this design has a lot of potential, particularly for climbing trees for pruning.

Very impressive! I have not seen that design before. Honestly, you should patent that, I've never seen spikes like that before. They would be particularly well suited for pruning so as not to harm the tree. The four spike design only slightly digs into the dead bark, yet it has plenty of grip. Traditional spikes seriously harm most trees because they penetrate all the way to sapwood.

I hope that your steel had a high enough carbon content to harden properly. Most steel rods purchased at the local hardware store are low carbon. While you will get some surface hardening, it will probably not be enough to make a difference.

He didn’t specify the steel. Bad news: common mild steel from the hardware store, or rebar won’t harden. Good news: it is likely strong enough without hardening. But as a metallurgical engineer, I would want more explanation.
