This is an actual hockey trade. A trade based on the needs and talent availability of the teams involved, (plus solving the trade demand from Gauthier). It would not surprise me if it was Torts related. A good D prospect/young player for a talented F prospect, plus a pick to even out the perceived difference in value. I hope it works out for both teams.

Trade value is the biggest reason. Gauthier just won a championship and his value increased . Anywhere after that point he just decreases in value so now is the best time to trade him. Not to mention Gauthier handled the whole situation like an immature child with Jones and Briere, so it’s fair to not have his say in anything as to where he is being traded to. Yeah Philly is a tough place to play with harsh fans, but pissing the whole fan base and organization off bc of his ego and immature behavior with Jones and Briere just says a lot about him. Don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand I fully support using your leverage to go where you want. It’s your life and career. Imagine McDavid on almost any other team… Not a great example but you know what I mean. On the other hand what’s the point of a draft order other than compiling a list of the best prospects ranked best to worst? If the worst team in the NHL loses its ability to draft the best players before other teams the chance of them improving becomes much more difficult. And now that it’s been proven to work watch for more players to do it.
@guillaumegiroux94256 ай бұрын
A player aged 18 still needs to develop physically and mentally, and sometimes some organisations can be at odds with what regimen or culture works best for a youngster. Nordiques still drafted Lindros with the first overall pick. He didn’t play there so they used his high value to trade him for a buttload of players (including Peter Forsberg, a better player in my opinion). You draft the highest value player and it he doesn’t fit your team, you exchange him for a player you want. It’s win-win for everyone.

@@guillaumegiroux9425 agreed the prospects value is still retained whether they want to play or not, people are acting like its the worst thing for the Flyers but the fact is you should get a fair trade for any player, and if you aren't there will be another team willing to a better trade

I love that you think working under someone you would hate would mean that you are scared, when you could just genuinely not like someone and want to actually grow as a player, and that not wanting to play there because he thinks he is to good a prospect to be dragged down by them means he's egotistical and not just simply properly valuing his own worth. If there is any validity to how big of a Penguins fan he was growing up he could have quite a bit of resentment for the team and I also don't think any team should have to deal with a player that doesn't want to be there

Not top prospects. Its common for mediocre prospects who play all 4 years in NCAA. Gauthier is 1st top 5 pick to not sign since Blake Wheeler 20 yrs ago ...
@exturkconner6 ай бұрын
@@alessandroscuderi7300 I mean just because a guy wasn't drafted top tier doesn't mean by the time he's ready to sign he's not a high end prospect. John Farinacci literally just did this (to Arizona again) last year. Over a point per game player who was the captain of an excellent team.

@frankytanky50766 ай бұрын
Agreed, like 110 %. You can say whatever you want about his motivations but it smacks of complete privilege and ego. It was when Lindros pulled it way back, and it is still just as shitty now, even though I feel like Lindros did it exclusively because the Nordiques owner was a piece of shit, which is a much better reason than whatever this clown has. Like 99% of other guys don't do this, it's just a select few jackasses.

Remember back in the day when 19 year old kids were just happy and overwhelmed about being drafted into the NHL and had their lifelong dreams fulfilled? Now we live in an age where now the pro hockey team isn't good enough for the kid who has yet to step foot in an NHL game. Unreal amount of entitlement and sense of importance.

@SangdaleDiscGolf you think after giving bedard the cup and the Calder with only 20 games h der his belt, people would learn kids cannot jump into a man's game and be automatic winners and roster players and picks aren't worth it.

Its not based on just 1 tournament ... Gauthier is a top 5 pick who has elite physical tools and is dominant in NCAA and lead USA in goals in world championships last year as a teenager. Drysdale has also done nothing at NHL yet. Gauthier's floor is like a 25 goal NHLer and has top line 40+ goal potential. Both r unproven with a lot of talent but Drysdale has injury problems and hasnt been as good as expected in NHL.
@alessandroscuderi73006 ай бұрын
@@tylerdurden4006 What r u talking about? Drysdale is not an automatic winner or proven great NHLer. Hes only 21, has only played 18 games over last 2 seasons due injuries and hasnt been that good in NHL. Hes not some proven great NHLer. And Gauthier's floor is like a 2nd line player because hes a big, fast guy with elite shot. Both are really talented unproven young players with high upside.

Cutter kept talking about how he loves the flyers, and he was built to play for the flyers on draft night. Then goes on a podcast and talks about how much he liked the facility and enjoyed the coaching staff. Then a year later ghosts them because he's having a good run at world juniors.
