We decided to take MaKenzie to San Antonio to get her hair done and figured we'd make it our first family trip of the summer. Little did we know, Mikko was NOT feeling the elevator at all once we got to our hotel! She often find difficulty adjusting to new environments and new things. Since we never really know what she'll be comfortable with and what she won't, we have to find new ways to comfort her so we can continue on our daily path; most times on the fly! Overall, we had a good time going to a couple new places, trying new food, and seeing new things!

Since it happened on both the elevator & the stairs, she may have just been worried her Dad wasn't coming & didn't have the words to express that. Everything is not a reflection on parenting skills folks. Developmental age comes into play too. Sometimes a kid is just being a kid. For everyone passing judgement, please look at how great the other kids are behaving. Here's a newsflash for you- they are all being raised by the exact same wonderful parents!

My daughter is 12, Nonverbal Autism. We cannot split up if we leave out as a family. If we all leave the house together, she expects us all to stay together so that could be VERY possible. The beauty in recording is they can go back to see exactly what was Mikko’s Antecedent to this behavior. Then they can work on it from there.

@@mj4lu5hffgOf course she gets different treatment. She's younger right now & has her own strengths & weaknesses. People are not all the same. Were you there to see how she took care of the other two when they were Miko's age? My point was that if you look at the other two children, it's obvious that the parents know what they're doing. I also don't know any parents who treat each of their children the same. What's the point of making a comparison?

Maybe there was a scent or sound connected to the elevator that was unfamiliar and unsettling to her. Having gone up initially with mum and surviving, she felt reassured going down with the whole family. Shared family experiences are always better than being separated, and this time with all of you together is priceless.

OH I felt so much compassion for you. I've had so many similar moments with my son, wanting to do something "fun" only for it to turn into a nightmare because he was unable to process too many new experiences at once. And the frustration when the same behaviors aren't always triggered with a different person. My son would have a full on melt down getting his hair cut with me at home or at the barber, screaming, failing, hyperventilating, throwing up, but his babysitter could do it for him and he sat beautifully without any issues. While I was grateful, it also secretly made me feel like a failure.

@ the 13 minute mark you can see the effects of over stimulation….all the flashing lights, rapid movement and loud unfamiliar sounds tip her equilibrium ….. only the opposite will correct that problem… she needs restful and peaceful place and plenty of time to restore her capacity. I really loved seeing the things that she was taking in….I think you guys are doing a great job in helping her to grow up and you are definitely adding value to the community. Your older children, no doubt are being molded into pretty awesome humans. ❤❤❤

What I have realized after watching this video and knowing how kids react to our emotions is that knowing mom has stated she has had some sort of sensory issues with the way things feel to her means there are some heighten emotions and mom knows how to not let them show. I can see that Miko picks up on a lot of her emotions, for instance the elevator situation mom got a little frustrated or flustered on the inside and Miko picked up on that and it was all hell from there trying to get her onto the elevator. As we can see when dad got her they got right on and off without any issues that were shown. I said this to say that when we think we are being calm and patient but on the inside we are an emotional wreck our kids pick up on this and because sweet babygirl has autism she feels it but can't control it without showing it. When mom was calm inside and out which was in the arcade, they both did the racing game together and the bowling game and Mikko was just fine. Most kids that have issues with loud noises cannot and will not go in a arcade. Mikko was just fine with it and loved it. So it's a lot that she is picking up from mom getting nervous because she starts thinking about how Mikko is going to respond to something because the last time she had to fight with her and that starts to bring up tention in the air. Mikko is picking up all of this and it starts to make her anxious and also she is a very smart girl and understands a lot. But when its behavior and not something else you have to have positive consequences for her.

It is very traumatizing for both Mikko and Precious when Mikko is afraid or nervous to get on the elevator. The stairs seemed like a possible alternative until you begin to realize how many stairs you will have to climb to get to your floor. A shout out to Matthew for the smile and showing his small toy. That was adorable. Ma'kenzie is also adorable when she offers her hug to Mikko but sadly she was rejected by Mikko. Precious, I loved the way that you took control of the camera for a shot behind the door and for being 'playful' with Chris. Precious, I admire you because you try your best to divide your time between all of the kids and husband Chris and I can't help but wonder if you occasionally need 'me' time and also 'alone time' as in alone with Chris or alone with Mikko, alone with Matthew, alone with Ma'kenzie? It seems that time keeps creeping away as all of the children grow. Ma'kenzie and Matthew will be teenagers before you know it which come with a new set of challenges, doesn't it? I pray for the entire family every day. They need our help even if it is only be a KZfaq subscriber to the channel and watching their videos. This family is without question one of the best, if not the best family channel on KZfaq!!

Your videos are really helpful and encouraging. Its comforting to know there are other parents out there who are going through the same things and just trying to navigate through the day to be the best parents they can be to their child who has special needs. Im looking at some of these comments of people behind a screen judging and im just shaking my head. Until they actually experience having a child with special needs they shouldn't judge. I love the way u divide your time btwn all of the kids, giving all of them your love, care, and attention and support. It’s very important when u have more than one child period to spread yourself btwn all of them so that they all feel that equal love from their parents. But it’s even more so important to make sure u do that when one or more of them has a disability and/or is special needs. I have 3 children and my last 2 are 10 and 11yrs apart from my first born but are just 1yr apart from each other. My daughter is the middle child and my 2 boys are the 1st and last born. My youngest is severely autistic and also epileptic. He’s non verbal and not potty trained and is 100% dependent. They are all grown now but he is still like a 2yr old. He’ll be 21 in August and my daughter will be 22 in August. My oldest just turned 32 y’day as a matter of fact. (Happy Birthday son❤🎉🎊) So when my daughter and son were younger children my daughter didn’t fully understand exactly what was wrong with her brother she just knew he was different and required ALOT of my attention. For a long time she felt like I loved him more than her or that I only loved him. She even said one time she wished she had autism and I asked her why she said that and that’s when she told me how she felt and I wasn’t aware of that at all! I had no idea she felt that way. I had to sit her down and really talk to her and let her know I loved her and her brother(s) equally. And that I had to be more attentive to her little brother because he required special attention. I had to be mindful to always make sure from that point on that I let her know I loved her and would start being more attentive to her as well. She loved her brother but felt like he was keeping me from loving her and being there for her as well so I had to straighten that out with her and afterwards she was good and the older she got the more she understood and that made her love and bond with him stronger and I’m glad I was able to get thru to her and reassure her she had nothing to worry about.

Since when do you see the twins even a quarter as much as mikko? She's not giving them any time
@allisonmitchell7379
@allisonmitchell7379 Ай бұрын
@@courtneylucas508 are we watching the same video? Or are u just slow? U didn’t just see her with her daughter talking about getting her hair braided? That’s the ENTIRE reason they went out of town. To get her twin daughter’s hair braided. This channel was primarily created for Mikko. Not because she loves Mikko more or whatever u clearly are trying to insinuate. It’s because she is allowing her followers to join her on her everyday challenges, struggles,and achievements with Mikko and her autism. Her children go to school. Mikko does not. So most of the time when she does these videos with Mikko and things she does with her as far as teaching her colors, shapes, animals, teaching her how to say words, and everything else she does with and for her, they are home and the twins are at school. She does have videos that she makes just for the twins. Unless u are the mother of a special needs child, ESPECIALLY one with autism, u have NO IDEA how hard and overwhelming it can be to raise and care for an autistic or special needs child. So unless u are like myself, having 3 children and my youngest is severely autistic, non verbal, not potty trained and 100% dependent, u can’t relate. Don’t be so quick to judge. She doesn’t neglect her twins. They are always happy, clean, hair done fed good and are always there with them.

My autistic son hated elevators for the longest & couldn’t always be avoided. I started warning him before hand, letting him press button & trying to wait for empty elevator. Traveling is still iffy & we just do whatever we can.

So happy that the trip turned out so well. Looks like everyone had a good time. Been to Jollibee's twice and recommend it. It's good value to buy the bucket so I freeze the extra when I've had enough. It warms up perfectly in the toaster oven from frozen.👍👍

My son reacts the same when he does something new or something he hasnt done ina long time, think it might be like the unknown thats gives my son anxiety stress like fight or flight mode. i try to show him videos of things that he will experience so hopefully he has less of a bad experience when it does happen. Looks oike maybe she realised the 2nd time that the elevator was not a bad thing, hemce her reaction being more of a calm one. Love your familys channel ❤
