Bailey, my grandpa was a pigeon racer and he just passed 9 months ago at 98 years old. He had pigeons his whole life and his were used as carrier pigeons in NYC when the Statue of Liberty was being built. Isn’t that cool?

My condolences to your family for your Grandpa. He had a very long life and sounds like he lived it to its fullest! May he RIP 🙏 Thank you for sharing that very cool story! It's amazing how many carrier pigeons have been used and how far back in history that we used them. I'll remember to salute any pigeons I see everyday from now on, but especially on June 13th, for their ancestors and their very important roles in our history. 🐦 🫡

@@carolbarrett6492eh, pigeons in urban spaces already subsist off a lot of human foods/general interaction. your point is definitely important, but i think they're a bit of a special case

@@asmokeus The problem is that when we feed them, their numbers increase and soon there are more than can survive without human intervention. Then something happens in the life of the person they are depending on to show up every day with food and they suffer immensely and many more die than would have if we do not intervene at all. I am a licensed bird rehabilitator and have had decades to learn about how it all works.

Fabulous as usual, Bailey! Also, I was going to recommend a Dark History on the Amish. I have gotten a ton of info from Cults to Consciousness (YT), but i just read the incredible memoir, Tears of the Silenced by Misty Griffin, and I think your channel could shed a lot of awareness and also the History is both dark and fascinating.
