A gardening book is too static. Both Laura and Aaron are always on the move and what makes Laura so appealing is the way she ‘romances the camera” . You feel like you are right there and she’s talking to you. Like when she’s all excited and walking fast and says , “ Ooh you have to see this. Just look at the color on that bloom! Aaaaahhh so gorgeous!”

I had two dahlias from last year that never matured. Last fall I placed the fabric bags that I planted my potatoes in on top of the area where the dahlias were. To my surprise, I was planting holly hocks near where I had planted the dahlia tubers, and lo and behold, I have two dahlias growing. So, in a sense, I overwintered my dahlias successfully!! Now to keep the chipmunks away from them!! Yeah!

I think Aaron is correct about the tree roots. We is the midwest normally get a lot of rain. It’s almost impossible to plant under trees. And those roots travel ALL THROUGH THE LAWN. Planting anywhere under the canopy creates issues. We just deal with tree roots continuously if we plant.
@majorzipf8947
@majorzipf8947 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s also to do with the water table level. I get the feeling that their water table is decently high so the trees can reach down towards that. I live in an area with very little rain and there are tons of surface roots under trees that aren’t near our rare creeks. The ones near the creeks tend to have less surface roots.

You seriously should stop worrying about doing a video on a topic that you have already done❤ Most of us will totally love watching a video of you plant garlic for the 5th year in a row. You have new people every day and most people won't go back to find something. I watch so many videos of yours that I don't need to watch for information. For example, I grow 300 dahlias I clearly don't need to know how to divide or store them, still watched the videos🙂 I feel like you can always learn something new or or pick up a tip. Plus many of us just love your channel, your family and what you are doing so we watch just to support you. We are interested in what you are doing even if it's the same thing over and over. New people have no idea what they have missed

In reference to the person asking about plants reverting even if they’re not grafted, I have a Brazil philodendron houseplant that has a stem that is reverting back to the original philodendron (non variegated leaves). I took a cutting of it too and I’m growing a non variegated philodendron from it. So they can revert even if they’re not grafted.

Hi Laura and Aaron. I love that you're putting in a pond! I had one at my last house and learned quite a bit from it. We are near the ocean and the sight of a great blue heron gobbling up 7-8 inch koi fish called for drastic measures! I wound up placing flagstone in the deepest area, on top of cinder blocks. This gave the fish an area to hide, they weren't accessible to raccoons and were barely visible. Our koi had babies and grew fairly large I'm happy now to have my two small fountains, and can't wait to see what your pond will look like. I start my days watching your videos and love seeing your journey.

If you test the supertunias, please do a few plots of each to get an average performance, as we do in scientific trials. If you only do one plot each, you can't be sure if the plant might have some defect, disease, or fails to thrive for whatever reason. And if you want to get real technical, square meters are the prime plot size. Sorry--I'm a total nerd, and I'd love to follow this!

My dog, also, goes crazy for Biotone! He likes to play “keep away” with jackets and patio pillows and THEN I brought out a bag of Biotone! Destruction of two bags (happy grass where it spilled) before I hit on the idea of transferring it to a large plastic jar with a screw lid. I’ve also learned to carefully mix it in the hole and if I’ve forgotten, too bad, it doesn’t get sprinkled on top because he’ll dig there.

I live in an area that backs up to a heavily wooded green space and I can't use biotone. A few years ago I was so excited to use it after seeing the amazing results that Laura achieved and I planted a large number of plants using the biotone in each hole. Next morning all of the plants that I had planted with biotone were dug up and laying on top of the ground. I tried again, same result. Not sure if it was raccoons, opossums or armadillos but I gave up on using biotone, it is just too yummy and tempting for some critters. I was so bummed!

What has worked for me with winter sowing isn't planting out "HOS" (hunks 'o seedlings) as many do. Instead, once I see a set of true leaves, I pot up the little seedlings into 1020 inserts (either deep 36 cell or deep 48 cell), letting them fill those 6-packs with roots, and then either up-potting or planting out, depending on what it is. Winter sowing just works so well for things that otherwise need scarification and/or freeze-thaw treatment. You might try approaching it only as a germination method, see if that works better for you.

I would love to see a vista/supertunia experiment! I grew two bubblegum last year, one at each side of my front flower bed. I had a large area to fill in, but they far exceeded my expectations! Zone 7b southeast US here. Each of those 2 petunias grew 6 ft x 8 ft!!! Talk about a massive petunia. Watered every day, and fertilized with PW fertilizer every week. In my area, petunias are high maintenance and tend to get leggy and fade out by Aug. These were gorgeous even after a few light frosts, right up to the middle of Oct. I will never buy any other petunias except proven winners lol!

A photo book would me amazing, just a bunch of pics of your garden every season. Also, the audio made me feel as if I was there chatting with you.

The title made me laugh so hard! I actually liked the echo for a change: it made it feel like we were right there with you!

I would never have noticed an echo. It doesn’t bother me at all!!! Glad you decided to go forward with the video.

You do have a neat playlist 🙂 In the winter I just pick a year and let it play It really helps when you want to be outside but can't.

Eastern NC here, watered all flowerbeds in the back and side yards while listening to Laura and Aaron this morning. How enjoyable you made my morning.

I love to watch you and Aaron go back and forth about projects! Your personalities are so complimentary to one another it makes you a great team! The audio was fine and Aaron was right, it was less noticeable the longer you watched.

Yay, a pond! Also, you are such perfectionists, we don't mind if the mic had issues and we hear a bit of an echo once in a blue moon. Anyone who has issue with your audio needs to find something better to be worried about. As usual, thank you for being yourselves!

Sound was fine, love that Paul and his sister are shown more lately, also happy to see that you added smoke bushes, mine is same colour, I was surprised when it took off and became so tall, I realized it was growing into a tree so now I cut back hard each winter and it keeps it more of a bush but it still gets tall each year but I love the colour it gives to the garden.

🌾As Aaron predicted, I got used to the different voice quality as the chat went on. That is a testament to the quality of information and content you provide. This set up of discussing the questions with each other while addressing them to the audience is by far the best I'ved seen compared to other KZfaq accounts. Aaron, I thank you for putting such effort and dedication to ensure we receive a top notch video, sound included. I appreciate Ken's contribution to the editing of these videos. I can tell that he watches every detail when deciding to cut frames ensuring continuity. For instance, I watched that cup of coffee go down in liquid, yet not once did I see Laura sipping it until the very end between 47:33 & 47:34 where Laura seem to reach out for the cup while Aaron talked and between 54:58 & 55:01. Great job!! Ken also did an amazing job at 41:02 where he matched Laura's words from the original video when she said "so that we know". What a gift!! 🙌🙌🙌 As for the augers. I love my short auger to plant alongside the tall beds. It puts the auger at the right height to dig the hole. I even sit at the edge and comfortably dig the holes. As for the irrigation (@ 44:17) for residential & small areas... I highly recommend to invest on a b-Hyve Smart Hose Watering Timer by Orbit. It is WiFi accessible, it gives you alerts when watering is done, detects rain in the forecast & delays the watering automatically, it shuts off the timer in the rain and it is super affordable. I found it at Home Depot (Timer with WiFi hub together for $59.99 in 2021). Love Aaron's suggestion of doing a comparison planting of the Petunias and finally at 54:30 announcing the installation of a pond. Can't wait to see that project.🌾

I have 3 small augers, I never use them. I have one 36” auger and it is used daily. I agree with Laura if you have to get up and down it defeats the whole purpose! Everyone have a fabulous week!🌸🌼🌺🌞

8.35 Talking about the shorter vs. the longer augers ... I have two of the 36" length ones and LOVE them. However, I do have a corner area where I have "treed" up (is that a word?) my Burning Bushes in order to plant Hostas underneath and I wish I had a shorter one for dealing with in there. Just a thought.
