1. Thank you for playing this! 2. The live version would blow you away. 3. They were so good that headlining bands did not want them to open for them because of how explosive they were. 4. They were bigger overseas than here in the US and 5. They are in my top 5 all time favorite bands. I saw them live and I will never forget it and it was over 20 years ago.

"Mickey's Monkey" and "Piece of the Rock" are absolute bangers by Mother's Finest!! We used to go see them at Six Flags Over GA- they did the Labor Day concert there several years in the late 70s/early 80s. One of the great Atlanta bands that never got as much national recognition as they deserved. Another fun New Wave/pop Atlanta band from the very early 80s was The Producers!! "What's He Got", "She Sheila" and "What She Does To Me" are all great songs by them.

They toured with Black Sabbath and AC/DC, earning the title "the most dangerous opening band in rock" due to them almost upstaging the headliners. Whaaat?! 😁I'm getting a Nona Hendryx vibe as well. I grew up with Mother’s Finest. Everyone in Atlanta knew them and loved them. Joyce has a stage presence like no one else. I saw them preform in Lumberton, NC which has a large mixed Indian population. Joyce did her homework and walked out on stage in very sexy Indian dress and a headdress that dragged the ground. The place went sooo wild that I was afraid the place was going to come down like an earthquake. Awesome group.

The best live band I’ve ever seen. Saw them in Atlanta in 1979 at the Champaign Jam and again in 1981 in Mobile with Molly Hatchet. They have two lead singers who are a couple. They were a mixed interracial band which didn’t sit well in the south. White and black radio stations alike wouldn’t play their music! What a waste! They had a much bigger career overseas. It’s a farce they aren’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Baby Love is great, but my favorite is their cover of Mickey’s Monkey. Originally done by Smoky Robinsonand the miracles, you’ll be quickly chair dancing. Amber was right, they’re even more incredible live!

Oh man, the summer of '77 was hot! This was all over the radio and Joyce Kennedy belts out this performance with one of rock's best female voices. Hard driving, emotional, gritty and in your face, the intensity she puts behind this track makes it my favorite cut from Mother's Finest. Whether on record or live, this group will rearrange your hair-do with a sound seldom found in rock music. "Baby Love" is one of those songs that, for me can't be played loud enough. The sound system that was in my brand new '77 Trans Am did it's best when I had this 8 track tape plugged in.

MF studio versions are fire, live versions are explosives. They are still touring and Joyce still has that voice.

Love the rhythm of this song, catchy!👍 Thank you guys for reacting to "Fell On Black Days" a few days ago. I've always been looking forward to your reaction on that one, wich I think is one of the greatest songs ever made. Soundgarden as well as the voice of Chris Cornell and the emotion that it brings speak for themselves ❤️

I went to Kennesaw in the late 70’s when Mother’s Finest performed there. Saw them at least 3 times. Saw them again in the last few years. They are a favorite band and memory of mine.

I was at Kennesaw in the early 70's. I was lucky enough to work at many of the music venues in Atlanta at that time. I saw so many great bands, Mothers Finest was one of my favorites, great music, good people, and a great live show. They became more popular in Europe than in the States, how I don't know.

They went through a controversial period as an all black band that wasn’t a funk or R&B band, they were a R&R band and made it clear that they were about rock. A lot of “critics” and even rock musicians of the time said a black band could never play R&R, they needed to stay in “their” genre. Mothers Finest then proceeded to record a punch back song called "Niggizz Can't Sang Rock 'n' Roll” on their second album in response to their critics. They were the first concert I ever went to, in Jr. High, and let me tell you they were DEFINITELY a rock band and they could rock the house with ANYONE!!! They had a definite rock stage presence and vibe, especially Joyce Kennedy (who I developed a major crush on after seeing them on stage and watching her MOVE) and had they been given the support they deserved from the industry would have had a career as big as anyone. IMO they should be in the R&R HoF based solely on their talent and would be had they been garnered the support they deserved. I guess the “industry” has forgotten who wrote what is considered to be the very first R&R song (Rocket 88 written by Ike Turner, recorded by Jackie Brenston) and one of the founding fathers of R&R (Mr. Chuck Berry), just to mention two of the most notable acts of all time.

I saw them at Byrnes Auditorium, on the Campus of Winthrop College, in 1977 or 78 I was 15 -16. It was amazing. The auditorium is where I graduated from High School. I later graduated from Winthrop University as the name changed. Great album and band with a cultish following.
