The reason Gabriel is so strong is because he's basically 2 people in one. Actually, he's even stronger because he absorbed the bodies of her 3 babies that were growing inside her so essentially they are 5 people in one. The reason that it seemed like there was ghost stuff going on is because he's able to trick her mind into seeing stuff that isn't really happening. Thats why she saw him outside the window and saw him doing the horrible things to people and viewed him as some kind of ghost. I imagine he made himself seem like a ghost is because she called him the devil growing up. The electricity control comes from the fact that its heavily implied they used lots of electro shock therapy on him and probably did tons of extremely unethical experiments on them.

I loved the prologue cause it caught me completely off guard in terms of tone of the film. I actually liked not knowing what I was in for, based on the trailers. Made the experience so much memorable and singular. Also - the big reveal scene was just awesome and totally bonkers. One of the best theater experiences I’ve had.
@HorrorLover
@HorrorLover 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Initially, I did not like the first half of the movie because it felt a bit by the numbers, but the prologue that seemingly had no connection to the events following just kept your mind trying to solve the mystery. And then once its revealed, the first half of the movie stops being a Boring by the numbers spooky ghost movie and you can appreciate it for the mystery it is, and catch on to all the little things that foreshadowed the twist. And damn, what a reveal. I love a plot twist that answers almost every question I had. Obviously we dont know how he got his super powers, but everything else is completely explained by the (Albeit completely bonkers and unrealistic) plot twist that somehow doesn't feel out of place in the movie.

For me, the transition effects reflect how Gabriel is pushing/merging his reality over Madison's. Pretty much how he is pushed/merged within her body/mind. By being able to control the visual cortex of her brain, he is able to stimulate impulses as a way to control her reality. The transition is the "tangible' side-effect of that stimulated part of her brain. Also, bitchin' reaction and review to the movie. I enjoyed re-watching it "with" you both.

Malignant certainly isn't for everyone, but man if it isn't nice to see one of the strongest voices in modern horror get to make his version of an 80s camp film. I can't wait to see all of the art it inspires (retro VHS covers, weird movie posters, maybe an action figure, etc). From the shifting horror tropes to the wicked score, I'll probably revisit this awesome horror gem over and over again.

What the hell are you talking about? This movie is a glossy pile of self-indulgent trash that doesn’t look or feel anything like the schlocky/campy horror movies to which it’s purportedly an homage. “One of the strongest voices in modern horror” is the most insane description of James Wan that I have ever read. It’s astonishing to see how many of you weirdo apologists came out of the woodwork to propagate the lies that this soulless and incompetently executed insult to the horror genre is actually good, and that James Wan is anything but an uninspired hack with an excruciatingly vapid point of view.

What's most disturbing is that a good portion of this is very possible. If you look up Edward Mordrake. He was a famous freak show attraction who did have a vestigial twin on the back of his head who could blink his eyes, move his mouth, but couldn't speak. Edward Mordrake said he could hear his twins voice in his head and it would tell him to do horrible things. Eventually he couldn't take it anymore and killed himself. American Horror Story told his story in the Season, Freakshow.

LOL I work at one of our local movies theaters and posters came in one day and I started sorting through them. The poster for Malignant was in the tube and I turned to my manager and was like, "there is no way I'm putting this up. The eyeball is fucking creepy." I continue to look over the poster. Less than 60 seconds later "WAIT! This it that new James Wan poster! I'm putting this up RIGHT NOW!" LOL. Then we watched the trailer and that was that until release night. We had a fairly decent opening weekend, what with COVID restrictions still in place, but I missed my chance to see it on the big screen, so I had to settle for watching it at home. I couldn't sleep one night, so I popped Malignant on. Now, absolutely nothing in horror bothers me (gross sex assault stuff that gets thrown into some movies being is a big red X for me though), but for some reason, watching the first maybe 45 minutes of Malignant and I kept wanting to turn it off. For some reason, the tone really set me off and I was super uncomfortable, but I made myself watch it. Fuck, am I ever glad I did. LOL. Right from Gabriel's "reveal" on the old tapes to the fucking chase and fight scenes. AMAZING. And yes FUCKING BONKERS. Loved it! I've watched it 2 more times since my initial viewing (in a span of a month). I was really excited to watch and hear other KZfaq reviews on it too. Cordery FX. Spooky Astronau. Chris Stuckmann (First "fucking bonkers" that I heard in a review. LOL). On here with Greg and Jon (I'm WAYYY behind on my Reel Rejects content and I'm super bummed about it, gotta take a gander at what I've missed and start my catching up). So, yeah. Malignant gets an almost perfect score for me (Was really annoyed that the male cop saw Gabriel's face and still basically blamed Madison. Dude, when a 5 foot something California raisin that's been in the sun for 5 decades looks you straight in the eye with his, uh, one eye, you CANNOT deny what you saw. LOL

You know , I used to experience things like that before, when my sleep patterns were all over the place and I was poor and living on 5 deals of weed every couple of days. The quaking of the surroundings, often feeling like a real Earthquake - often able to actually see things rumbling around and moving around in my room - the flickering lights - odd lights manifesting from nowhere, like wisps from another dimension having a whimsical little ganders at me for a few seconds. Then, the things that I'd see once the paralysis took hold. 10 years of meditating and discovering techniques to control my emotions and brain chemistry it took to clear myself of sleep paralysis.

I'm pleasantly surprised John listens to Mr Sunday Movies enough to catch the subtle Nick Mason reference. I had to go back a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't imagining it. Now I have confirmation.

Will have to admit Killer has to be pretty smart in making that trophy into a weapon like that. I mean a blade that is more close to the fist for him is easier to use for his contrition and gives him perfect control over how he fights with it as well as gives him more than one way to use it either for slashing, punching, or even throwing that thing it’s a bad ass and creative weapon. Not to mention he is able to fight even if he was on the other side and he still kicks ass and kills effectively with the body. He’s pretty impressive overall for his abilities as well as having the ability to control machines and use them to project his thought out through machines. In short THIS KILLER IS A BAD ASS AND OVERALL BAD ASS KILLER TO HAVE COME OUT IN MOVIES!!!!!!

When the hell did horror villains start moving like if they were John Wick? Gabriel is secretly a Keanu Reeves fan.

Since they never explained how Gabriel can do the electric waves or his strength, I figure it's because he can access more than the average 10% of the brain. This movie was disturbingly good, though!!

He's tied to something older. He alludes that he's connected to the undercity and all the stuff down there, that is even older than their mom. It's also not a coincidence that their mom was a tour guide down there I think. There's either a deleted scene that explained things, and it got cut for some stupid reason (This happens in movies way more often than it should) or it's meant for a sequel.

It's because he is able to utilise the full potential of the brain . Human Brain is immensely powerful to an extent that we can communicate with it, and without our mouths, since brain works more on electricity.
