11 ай бұрынTodays game 3 between the Dallas Stars and the Las Vegas Golden Knights was a must win for the Stars. Yet, they got off to about as bad of a start as you could imagine. First an early goal and then their captain, Jamie Benn took a terrible penalty on Mark Stone just a minute later getting a 5 minute major and a game misconduct just 2 minutes into the game. Not only a gutless and completely unnecessary cross check to the face, he took himself off the ice in the most important game of the season. As the game progressed, fans became upset and at the end of the second littered the ice with garbage forcing the end of the period early. Hill also got hit with popcorn on the way back onto the ice but I cover it all in todays NHL video!

He has a history of these kinds of actions. Cross checked Dylan Larkin from above Larkin to the back of his neck after losing a faceoff, almost like a little boy throwing a tantrum. Larkin's season ended due to the neck injury as a result, but no penalty. Then he did a carbon copy of the same thing against Austin Matthews, no penalty. Here's your Captain, Dallas. Benn has a history of nasty cross checks. He did it to Dylan Larkin causing a season ending neck injury. First game the next season between the two and Benn crossed checked Larkin in the neck right off a face off. In neither case was Benn even given a penalty let alone any kind of discipline. Had that been done last night might not have happened. The more you let bigger name players get away with garbage the more they will do it.

He ended Larkin’s season with the same move. Larkin was falling and Benn cross checked him in the back of the neck. If the NHL cared about safety, this is a 40 game suspension. Benn is a repeat offender of NECK crosschecking.

Benn lets the puck go just after leaving the top of the circle, Stone hits him at the blue line as Benn tries to go around and change his position, Stone don't care, jumps up to hit Benn anyway. Falls to avoid an Interference call against him for changing skating lane to prevent Benn from getting to the puck. Still doesn't excuse Benn's retaliatory hit.

As a bitter Oilers fan, I'd say that obviously he should be suspended for multiple games, but based on the Pietrangelo call, since Benn basically missed the entirety of game 3, he should be good to go for game 4. That would be on par with the previous call as Pietro didn't miss any meaningful time in the game he slashed Drai and he just missed the one game, though it worked out as they had the opportunity to sit Nurse as well to even things out.

I know this purely speculation, but I honestly have to believe Benn was high on something. I do not understand how he could possibly think that a downward-thrust, obviously intentional, two-hander aimed at a downed player’s throat…. what possible positive outcome could this have?? Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, but this mistake is so egregiously selfish and brainless, that I wouldn’t just suspend Benn. I’d insist he gets a full diagnostic neurological work-up and drug testing.

If they both sweep, a playoff rearrangement should be in the cards. I am fine with the way teams make the playoffs, but it should be reseeded based on record. Vegas-Edmonton was the Conference finals and everyone knew it.

Dallas fans were a disgrace to the sport in this game but when you have players acting like they did then the fans are only going to do the same
