The hand chicken is the Rip'n Chick'n. It was a thing years ago in American Popeyes (also returned one time in 2021). The idea was that the shape made it easier to tear apart the chicken and dip it in sauces.

Most American fast food chains in China are just like regular restaurants. They aren't cheap by their standards. It's cheaper to get a bowl of noodles at a random place off the street than it would be to eat at a Popeyes for example.

This^ It's admittedly true that the American fast food chains seem to put more effort in, even in wealthier asian countries like Japan and Singapore. But there it's still pretty clearly fast food rather than the almost-restaurant you see for these chains in China. edit- thought of the analogy after replying, the American fast food chains basically work like iHOP or Applebees in China

The reason why American fast food is so glorified in Asian countries is because they see it as luxury. It is like how Americans view ramen as gourmet or luxury we price ramen at $15+ upwards to $30 in some places. And make them in fancy restaurants. But in Japan it is their equivalent to our burger. They would sell a 5 inch burrito for $20 and say it's gourmet and exotic.
