The 57 km/h was more like 60+, but they deduct a "tolerance" to account for possible measuring inaccuracies, so they only accuse you of 57.
@katier9725
@katier9725 Ай бұрын
There's also the issue that keeping a straight 50km/h can be difficult, especially with older cars, so some leniency is generally granted (I think up to 5, so 55 in this case). But 7 over the speed limit is almost certainly deliberate, so this is warranted.
@franhunne8929

Also, speed limit 50 means most likely it was inside a town (here Karlsruhe) - and that means pedestrians or cyclists could be endangered. Hence the stricter view.

The dutch are absolutely brutal on this (or at least were 20 years ago or so). But they were especially after it towards the German border, because a) money from people who are not their own citizens, b) foreigners are often not aware of how strict it is and more likely to fall into the trap, and c) added bonus that it hits Germans specifically. 😄That's where I first saw the "car on the side of the road with a speed trap hidden in the headlights."

Speak only for yourself. Its a fairy tale that ALL Germans like to be naked and present themselves nekkid to every stranger. Usually only people that are somewhat exhibitionists like to present themselves naked to strangers, which is why we have FFK beaches and normal beaches. The latter is what most ppl chose for themselves and their kids and all are wearing swimming outfits. - For the most part, only old fat men with beer bellies are keen on FKK and recommend that to more attractive (than their own wives) young women and kids; so they can enjoy their voyeurism without being called a pervert. - When I was in the US, I liked it, that men with nekkid upper bodies or ppl without shoes are not accepted into busses or supermarkets. Its a harassment of the public doing so. - These habits have lead Spain to enact strict fines for tourists from Germany/GB that cannot behave and go (half-)naked into Supermarkets or restaurants or stroll in the streets, not caring about the kids and elder ppl living there and who cannot escape those reckless tourists.

The cross you asked about is the so called "Tatzenkreuz" (cross paty) and was used by many groups and states mostly in sigils and flags throughout history until today. The Nazis tried to grift historic symbols and mythology wherever the could and reintroduced it in its form as the order of the iron cross, but it is not neccessarily connected to them. Sevaral knight orders used it like the Templars (Teutonic Order), Maltesers, Johannites,... thats why it is sometimes also called the "templar cross" or "crusaders cross". The free masons use a form of it, it was a symbol for the north german Hanse and sometimes also called "Hansekreuz", and it is still the central element of the insignia of the German armed forced.

Lyme disease is no joke, it can lead to life long damage to the nervous system and can be very hard to treat when it becomes chronic. Early treatment with combined broad spectrum antibiotics is very effective. There is an FSME vaccination, so anyone living in the south of Germany should get that. No Lyme disease vacciantion. Interesting fact: Lyme disease was not an issue in the USA for a very long time as the area where it existed was very limited and compact, but then they cut down the woods where it was endemic to build suburbs. The deer the ticks were living on lost their home, spread out and so did Lyme disease in the US. "Lyme disease brought to you by the american dream of suburbia." In the US it is mostly a northern thing for both, Lyme and FSME. PS. There are still doctors who don't believe in Lyme disease. That does not mean it does not exist, it just means those doctors don't keep up with edcuation after they graduated medical school.

So, well, as a German we do shower naked after bathing and sports in same sex showers starting as a kid, while it is also totally acceptable to keep the swimming suit/trousers on, too. In wellness areas such as Sauna/Spa unisex nude showering is also fairly common. Keep in mind the generally speaking Sauna-areas are considered "textile-free" areas, meaning you are not supposed to wear any dress. Obviously, for the time you are not sitting inside the sauna or showering you are perfectly fine to wrap yourself in a towel or wear a bathrobe, but trousers, bikini and stuff is a nono. Coming back to your example: No, that is not normal. When we are showering naked, you typically keep the focus on yourself and your body and showering. If you know the person next to you, you can obviously talk and if you are kids you can do some fun stuff, but it is NOT normal to stare at the person next to you, analyzing other people's bodies and even get vocal about it. Germany or not, I think this is not deemed "normal" anywhere on this planet =) I mean if she left it with a "you're looking great" or something and stopped right there without any further staring and stuff... ok... maybe, but the rest: Not really =D

We also have towel dispensers that work like cassettes. With 2 rolls, one contains several meters of towel and the other is empty. And every time someone pulls out the towel to dry their hands, something rolls off the full roll and then the used length rolls up onto the empty roll This means you always have a clean cotton towel to use and no paperwast Because when the dispenser roll is empty, the roll with the used towel simply goes into the wash

Arachnologist/Entomologist here. Not ba doctor, but about your tick bite, the bull's eye does not always present even if yolu have been infected with Borrelia. But since you went to the doctor and he gave you antibiotics, there's probably not much more you could do at this point. If any issues should appear later, even many months, just in case remember that you had that itchy bite and tell the doc then. About risk zones concerning ticks in Germany, there are no "safe" zones any more concerning FSME. Winters became too mild for the ticks to die off, so there is no way of knowing how far they are spreading. Plus, a second species of the genus Dermacentor has been expanding its range widely. These can transmit several more potential germs. And with the occasional tropical tick in the mix it gets even more juicy. Thanks climate warming.

a paper towel dispenser is a lot more sanitary than a blow dryer for your hands. With the paper towel you know no one else has touched it. You wipe your hands with it and then dispose it together with the bacteria in the bin. With the blow dryer however it just dries your hands. It doesn't get rid of all the bacteria on your hands still. Not only that, the bacteria in the water gets stuck on the surface of the blow dryer and warm air is blown against it. Perfect environment for the bacteria to grow and multiply. Then everytime the blow dryer is used the bacteria gets flung around the room. You got yourself a bacteria dispenser.

@@sandraankenbrand Well, ok.. here we go: First of all, 3/50 = 6%, even 3/53 = 5.66% So you're wrong. But what's even more important is, that just because you calculated that number doesn't mean it's meaningful. The dude was fined for going 7km/h over the speed limit with a tolerance of 3km//h. That means they measured him at (50+7+3=60) km/h. That is 20% over the speed limit (10/50 = 0.2). However, since they have to reduce the number by the tolerance. So everybody is pretending, he just drove 57km/h instead of 60km/h, which is 14% (7/50) over the speed limit. Now the question is, how much more did he violate the speed limit than what they got him for? That is 3/7=0.42857, so he actually drove 42,9% more over the speed limit than what they got him for.

Ticks are one of the worst aspects of living on a farm in Germany. We find ticks on us regularly in the Summer, usually in the morning after they've been feeding on us all night. When I moved to Germany I gave up on the idea of sitting in the grass. When my sister visited us with her kids, they were not allowed to even walk on the grass. We are from a tick-free city in America so we're less casual about it, but I've certainly learned how not to remove a tick (scratching it).

12:40 Sadly we do still use paper towels a lot. But at my university we have something really nice: A device that has a very, very long, rolled up towel inside. You pull on the towel until it locks in place, then you can dry your hands - and they actually will be dry in one go. After a view seconds the device draws the wet part towel and rolls it back up. I think this is the best option for a device to dry your hands. For me that is my preferred method for drying my hands in a public restroom But on the flip side those are pretty easy to break even in a rather civilized context. It probably would not be a great idea to install them at a train station or gas station.

Considering the manufacturing and repair costs, transport and washing of the towels, plus the fact that they can't be used indefinitely either, it might well be the case that (recycled) paper is more eco-friendly. @@tsurutom Hard to say indeed. Even recycling paper uses up a lot of energy and still a lot of water and you still have to transport the paper. How does it compare to the actual towel thing? IDK honestly. I haven't seen numbers on this. I am almost certain there were numbers published when these things were first introduced to the university, but they were already there when I first set a foot into one of their restrooms. With those hot air dryers I have some serious doubts concerning hygiene. Especially when it's just starting to blow, the air is still cold and could transport bacteria or viruses onto your hands. If no one touches the thing: no problem, cause there will be nothing to transport. But I've seen way weirder shit at train stations than someone touching an air dryer. I wouldn't even be surprised if someone smears their nose goo in there. One time I actually tried to find reliable data that compares the hygiene aspects of paper towels and air dryers, but all you can find is some promotional pseudoscientific "articles", written or sponsored by companies producing either one or the other. I think one thing one could try is to use a Petri dish with a bacteria/fungi growing substrate and hold it in the air stream of one or more of those air dryers. Maybe for a comparison samples from the other two versions could be used.

Once I locked myself out while bringing out the trash at 04:00(thats AM for the fellow americans), but luckily my flat door was still open, just the main building door snaped shut. So I ringed the doorbell of my floor neighbours ready to get some angry yells over the speaker before they let me in. But no they didnt respond. So I kept on ringing to show that its not a prank, like once every 20 seconds. Nothing happened for like 10 minutes. Then the landlord who lives a floor above us came out to his balcony and we had a brief conversatzion of 30 seconds which was maínly me apologizing 1000 times and he activated the buzzer to let me in. He was probably just too sleepy to be angry but from his tone I feel he also found it strange that my neighbours called him at 4AM instead just talking to me over the remote speaker.

The eastern germans of the (DDR German democrat Republik) has the "Frei Körper Kultur or FKK" means "Free Body Culture" on some beaches and campgrounds where people were naked on their holidays or vacations. The fee of the speeding ticket depends on the speed limit and the area of the control. 7 km/h in a city like in the letter i guess, costs more than 7km/h outside of a city on an country road or the autobahn which i guess would have no fee at all i guess or maybe just a warning. But 25€ for the costs of the procedence is the first time i saw that to be honest. The Camera is not allowed to record this way when there is public walkway or property of the neighbours on it. You are only allowed to record your own property. I guess he is maybe recording the entrance of the building but strange angle for that, or maybe he film his car parking space?! When you live in an house with more apartments in it, The Landlord is responsible that you can live peacefully in your home. If there are repeating things like intensive smells (tobacco, weed, garbage etc.) or noises like (loud music in the night, loud arguing neighbours, loud neighbours having bedroom fun) its an option to tell the landlord that you pay less rent if he didn´t take care about the problem. But the first attemp should be a talk with the neighbours first in my opinion.

The Cross you mean is the Iron Cross. Originally inspired by the Teutonic Order, this was a military award first established by King Frederick-William III of Prussia during the German War of Liberation in 1813. It's considered Germany's first fully egalitarian military award open to soldiers of all ranks and social classes. Iron Crosses are only awarded during major, peer-level conflicts and need to be newly established each time. Thus far, this was done in four different conflicts: The aforementioned War of Liberation, the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, WW1 and WW2 - with the latter two of course having tainted its reputation quite a bit. Still, the German Military has not officially abolished it, still uses a stylized version of it as its Coat of Arms and as a roundel for both Aircraft and Ground Vehicles. Also, back when people who served in WW2 were still active, they were actually permitted to wear these medals on their uniforms.

7:00 well, the main difference: those are speed cameras. In America a lot of speeding tickets are still handles by police cars, which will pull you over. Also 57 km/h measured, means that the drove 60km/h in reality, as the measurement tolerances are substracted from the measured speed. This makes sure, that nobody gets fined for a higher speed, than somebody actually has driven. Also if you look at the speedometer, you have an additional 2-3 km/h, as a speedometer isn't allowed to show more speed, than you are actually driving. oh 7km/h above the limit is about 4-5 mph over. However a lot of cars still go over the speed limit, as there are no further consequences. Also the fee and expenses are stay the same, regardless the high of the ticket. So if you have a fine of 400€ it epiöf still cost the 28.50€ for the letter 10:00 for the camera, you are only allowed to record your own property and have to make sure, you don't record anything of the sidewalk/road or your neighboring property

As I live at the border to Germany, I know many Germans (my father included) complaining how ridiculously higher these fee's are in the small country. (he's complaining about speeding fees specifically being a racket and harassment on a regular basis, including those committed in Germany. Just accept the limits... but he get's mad if I tell him that) I don't care. Just don't commit the infringements and you don't have to pay. Plus they have to "hurt" if they are supposed to teach a lesson. And speeding once more, there is a tolerance span (to consider the variation in the measuring tools) that is substracted from your speed. It's 3kmh under limits of 100kmh and 3% for limits over 100kmh.

Since the Nazis were anti-Christian, the cross has no Nazi origin, but is a historic symbol, in this form used first by the Prussian kingdom during the Napoleonic wars as an order of merit, the Iron Cross, which later became the highest war-related medal in the Prussian-founded German Empire and was because of its historic relations then also used in WW II by the Nazis. It is based on the "Tatzenkreuz" or Cross pattée used by the order of the Knights Templar, in a slightly changed designs also by the Hanseatic League, by the Duchy of Mantua, by different abbeys, bishopries, cities and others. The one in the picture is surely older than the Nazi rule, at least if is of a similar age as the "Lehrbrief", which is a diploma for the apprenticeship, which made the recipient a bachelor (Geselle) of his trade.

Someone in my sports club had this. he had to learn to talk and walk again. He was sick for almost 2 or 3 years I think and not back to what he was before after this.

@0:45: the cross is called "Eisernes Kreuz" (iron cross). It is originally a prussian war medal and actually it's black, not yellow (couldn't find the meaning of the yellow cross). It was "invented" long before WWII, but was re issued in 1939, as the "Ritterkreuz des eisernen Kreuzes" (Ritter is a Knight), a Nazi war label. So originally it's not a Nazi label, but was obused by the Nazis and is therefore associated with Nazigermany (mostly due to the lack of knowledge).

Paper towels are more hygienic than the blow dryer. And how do you think the electricity needed for the blow dryer is more environmentally friendly than the use of lesser grade paper for paper towels?

Paper towel manufacture uses a ton of water and electricity, so single use paper is definitely less sustainable than an electric blowdryer would be. However if the paper towels are collected and re-recycled, it might be different. And the hygiene aspect is also important especially nowadays.

uhm 7km over the speed limit of 50 km ... the 50 km speed limit will mostly happen in cities, towns villages and 3 km have already been deducted for 'tollerances' in the measurement. Thats 10 km over the limit. Its still a small fine as it comes with no mark up in Flensburg, an authority which tracks significant violations with a points system. If you earn yourself too many of them (8) you'll get stripped off your drivers license. Guy probably didn't pay the 30,00 € after receiving the ticket via a letter, so the cost for the court handling adds in well deserved. In Germany 50,000 to 60,000 people contract Lyme borreliosis every year and a further 150 to 200 tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). Vaccination against TBE is available.

The Iron Cross you're probably referring to is a more than 200 years old military mark of first the prussian and then the German forces, and it is still used to this day as the symbol of the Armed Forces of Germany. It is painted on all tanks, planes and other vehicles of the Bundeswehr. It's only a Nazi symbol in combination with the svastika.
