As an Ottawa resident. I grew up 5 minutes away from the stadium. I was basically in its shadow. I drive past it almost everyday. To get downtown is a 25 minute car ride and a 1 hour bus ride. The team needed Lebreton Flats. With the new transcity train going RIGHT past it (when it isn’t breaking down or derailing). You can be there from the other side of downtown in MINUTES. And yes that sight is as depressing to pass in Jim Watson’s toy as it looks……

Matthew Tkachuk was an absolute MONSTER in the playoffs for Florida after a 109 point regular season (career high). I think Florida is very happy with that trade. Jonathan Huberdeau was TERRIBLE for Calgary. He had 115 points in his last year with Florida (career high) and then 55 in his first year with Calgary. The biggest point production drop off in NHL HISTORY. Edit: The Panthers have won the Stanley Cup for the first time in their 30 year history. Safe to say that Florida won the Matthew Tkachuk trade. They didn’t just win it, it was an absolute ROBBERY. Congratulations to Florida. This was a team that missed the playoffs 16 of 18 seasons from 2001 to 2019. They didn’t win a playoff series for 26 years and now they’re on top of the mountain.

That Tkachuck trade was so out of nowhere and it happened in the middle of the night. I went to bed knowing that he wanted out of Calgary and woke up to the biggest trade we've seen in years.

I love that you're hyped about my Jackets, Laine and Gaudreau is going to be so fun to watch. That Gudbranson contract is shit, but he'll bring some stability to our bottom pair, which says a lot about how bad our bottom pair was last season. Gudbranson might be a bad NHL defenseman, but Bayreuther (the guy being replaced) makes Guddy look like fucking Lidstrom. Best case scenario, Gudbranson finds his role and redemption like Ceci did in PIT and EDM. Worst case scenario, he mentors our young defenders a bit and makes sure I never have to see Bayreuther again.

Tree, as a Flyers fan, unfortunately, I have ranted to my dogs enough about how literally all the Flyers has to do to get Gaudreau was not make the TDA move and buy out Lindblom. They had ~5.1M in cap space on the first day of the draft and an Oskar buyout would’ve gotten them 3.3M more so they could signed Gaudreau, be over the cap by a mil or so and then when Ellis gets out on LTIR we’re cap compliant. We basically could spend 6.25M over the cap due to Ellis most likely never playing again. It’s fucking insane. All Fletcher had to do was give him a reasonable offer and he’s a Flyer.

Not the splashy move the fans were hoping for this offseason but he'll be solid while things continue to solidify with the Sabres' young goaltending situation. I also hate that you got Larsson. Sabres needed a 4C and Buffalo loves Larry as he spent a long time with us. I hope Pittsburgh treats him well.

Your presentation for THE trade was perfect.

This was the greatest free agency of the past 20 years at least. So many great players went to so many surprising teams. The Sens, Kraken, Wings and Blue Jackets all picked up great hauls. There were some great trades, controversy with PLD and M Tkachuk. And Kadri and Klingberg still haven't signed. Chicago full on blew up their young core without blowing up the aging core in laughable fashion. Next year it'll be very very interesting to see who ends up gelling with their new team and who drops off hard.

As a Preds fan I’m honestly impressed so far with our off season. Kemell seems like a promising draft pick, getting McDonough and Nino also seems promising, and resigning Forsberg was awesome. It’ll be interesting to see how they do this upcoming season.
