The NHL Trade Deadline had a lot more buzz than expected. With the salary cap starting to squish a ton of teams, there had to be some creativity involved in making moves happen. To the surprise of many, there weren't just moves, but the size of them were seismic (at least in terms of player reputation). So many teams choosing to go all-in this year that it's like the NHL is closing up shop afterwards.
There's a ton to go over, from the lightest of moves to future Hall of Famers on the move as either trade bait or cap casualty. This video is a (late) roundup of everything that's happened. God have mercy on us all.

12:34 - Yeah that was the biggest trade news this NHL season. Quick was on his final contract year with the Kings and have been with them for 15 years and won 2 Stanley Cups. That was a heavy move as he was not only a franchise legend but also a fan favourite even more. Well being then dealt to the Las Vegas Golden Knights was a stepp up. I fully understand he did not want to report to the Blue Jackets who is no cup runner. What I would like to see Quick do regardless is representing Team USA in the IIHF World Championships if eliminated from the play-offs. He have NEVER competed in that international tournament at all in his career and would be a good career merit! Only 1 OG & 1 WCH, thats it.

Should have used that cap space he wasted on mid to late round draft picks and bringing in klingberg, johansson, nyquist and sundqvist and gotten a center who can produce better than hartman or eriksson ek. Those two only are producing thanks to kaprizov. Without him, the wild are screwed these next few weeks. We needed a high end center, not bottom 6 wings and a 3rd pairing dman who costs 3.5 million.

@@JarradBruessel32 This wasn't the season to go for it. The Wild only have $12m (after trading Greenway) in cap room, and 9 roster spots to fill. Next year, the Wild will have $16m of cap space clearing up off of 5 contracts ($6m for Zucc, $3.5m for MAF, $3.1m for M. Foligno, and others) and those great prospects we've been hearing about (Khusnutdinov in particular is having quite the year in Russia) will be coming over that year too. (Out of the 5 that will become UFAs, Zucc is the only one I'd entertain the idea of keeping, and that's at a pay cut) And after this year's draft, draft picks will have zero relevance to the Wild's ultimate goal: getting Kaprizov to stay. So use those first round picks in 2024 and 2025 to go after, say, Elias Pettersson at the 2024 deadline.

@@FirearmofMutiny we would have had the cap space if we didn't buy them out but instead traded them and retained salary. @James Sylvestre This year's Panthers team reminds me of the 16/17 Lightning. Injuries completely derailed that campaign, but there was a silver lining. The injuries cleared the way for Braden Point and Anthony Cirelli to prove what they can do. It's still too early to judge the summer trades as positive or negative. Regardless, the Panthers are far too talented to be below the playoff line.

Thank you for giving the Jonathan Quick situation the gravitas it deserves. Not merely a franchise icon who was emblematic (with Kopi, Brownie, and Drew) of the team maturing to a new level, but the quiet leader of the locker room and his wife Jackie was the house mother to the players, hosting holiday parties for the single guys, getting new players acclimated to Los Angeles (which is a job of work), etc. Watching JQ32 rediscover his Conn Smythe form for the Golden Twits must surely be a new definition of H-E-DoubleHockeySticks. Sigh. (Yes, I'm thrilled beyond measure to get Gavrikov and Korpisalo will probably prove necessary when Copley regresses to the mean. But there must have been alternatives. Sean Walker is making the same money as Gavri, and if Durzi hadn't gotten concussed, Walks would be out of the lineup now. Seems we might have done Walker, Copley, and a draft pick [maybe a pair of 2s? But I'll do 1st and 3rd if need be] for the Columbus 2, and let Quick finish out his deal, at least. Ah well.)

The Panthers finally got fully healthy two games ago and it showed against Pittsburg and Vegas. The forward lines are the way they should be, Bennett and Barkov coming back gives us two excellent two way centers in addition to Eetu Luostarinen taking that next step in his development. They with everyone healthy we have a legitimate top 6 with decent scoring depth again. On the Blueline, Brandon Montour, Josh Mahura and Radko Gudas have been excellent. Forsling has been solid as always. The letdowns on defense have been Ekblad and Marc Staal. Ekblad looks like he needs time off in the worst of ways. It’s very clear he hasn’t fully recovered from the grade 2 groin strain he suffered earlier this season and it shows out there. He doesn’t look as confident with the puck and when shooting the puck, and he can’t transition as quick as he needs to in order to gap up on opposing puck carriers. Hopefully he does a lot of maintenance during the offseason to come back ready to go and hungry next year. As for Marc Staal, he’s just cooked. The mind is there but his body no longer can keep up. I think he needs to hang them up. He’s had a very good career but it’s clear he no more to give. As for the man in net, he was meh earlier in the season but since January, he’s been excellent, having been a big reason we’ve won games. If he can keep up that play going forward, we have a legitimate shot to make the playoffs this year. What this team needs to do is win games. And string wins together in this final stretch. No more win 2 lose 1. They need to win 5-6 in a row to have a shot this year, otherwise they aren’t making it. Either way, this year has been tough to watch for the fans. The team has talent, but injuries and very poor coaching have cost us. We have cap space coming available in the offseason so it’ll be interesting to see how the FO approaches the free agency. There’s been words that they want to add a quality D-man, and honestly, that’s what I hope for as well. Assuming Ekblad returns to form next year, and assuming we decide to retain Gudas, a top 4 Dman would solidify our blueline and make it one of the better units in the league.

Once again, Don Waddell impressed me with his moves. Despite the Devils winning the bidding war for Meier, the price was probably Nishikin and/or Jarvis, especially with rumors that the Sharks wanted a top prospect & a young roster player from Carolina as compensation. Likely too high of an ask for the Canes to take it seriously. Instead, the Canes lose a prospect who just resigned in Europe on a multiyear deal along with a couple of mid-round draft picks, and they address their PP woes while adding sorely needed size & physicality on the RW in return. Not big trades, but quality ones.

Especially sucks considering Calgary and Washington proceeded to win their Stanley Cups after David Poile moved teams. 51 seasons in the league, the most wins as a GM in NHL history - no Stanley Cups. Truly a horrible fate. - Sincerely, a Predators fan

Tree, if it's any consolation, the Oilers have played 5 games since acquiring Ekholm...and they've won 4 of them. Including coming back from 0-2 down to beat Boston 3-2 IN Boston

The flyers are an embarrassment to Philadelphia, they'd rather smell their own farts and have unnecessary controversy (provorov deciding not to wear the pride night shirt, Tony DeAgelo being himself) all while the Phillies, Eagles and Union went to the championship game/series and the Sixers are title contenders

Why would you assume the Coyotes will get Connor Bedard? They've literally never had the #1 overall pick *ever* . He'll be a Duck or a Blackhawk, which will be even worse for the NHL than a star player going to a franchise that desperately needs one.

If I can speak for all Devils fans - we are in heaven. This season doesn't matter because we have a superstar signed for his 22-28 year old seasons and 3 other star forwards aged 24,24, and 21. As long as we sign Bratt and Timo we are ready to contend for the next 6+ seasons. As good as we have been this year we have 2 of the top 10 D prospects coming and not giving up Holtz (his rookie year struggle is no biggie. I keep pointing out that it looks just like Timo's rookie year. I still see him becoming a perennial 30g 30a wing. He'll be on a line where some combo of Jack & Timo or Hischier & Mercer will already be doing the heavy lifting dominating possession and chance quality. I can't wait to see what these guys are capable of. If Luke and Nemec are just #2 and #3 level Dmen we're fine, but if they're better we can be fucking scary.

@@silkychris999 Saros is the biggest question mark for our future. We could get an absolute HAUL for him, but do we want to risk the possibility of Askarov being a bust? I personally support trading him soon, since this organization is one of the best in the league when it comes to developing netminders
