I’ve got a 2024 4xe. It’s amazing. I get gas once every two months. And I programmed my Jeep to only charge at night when I get “free” electricity on my electric plan. But the most fun is going camping and tapping into the 17.3 kWh battery. You can power a campsite for about a two weeks, and if power runs low you can run the engine as a generator to continue powering your campsite. For reference a 1 kWh power station is about a $1K. So having access to 17.3 kWh is incredible. My other Jeep friends nicknamed my Jeep “stalker” because it’s dead silent as you go wheeling in electric power. I think the recall really killed the momentum of the 4xe. Because in 2022 and 2023 it was the fastest selling hybrid.

As a 4xe owner, I love the fact that around town I get 40-ish miles per gallon between fillups. It would be more if I didn't take it in the mountains every weekend. That said, on the weekend we can take it anywhere we want. We have as much torque as the 392 and can take a lot of cars off the line all day long. That's weird to say for a wrangler, but I'll take it. I just think that you don't understand the market for the 4xe and that Jeep is kind of missing the mark with their marketing.

I bought a 2024 Wrangler High Altitude 4xe three weeks ago. The reason being is I got a $7500 tax credit and employee pricing on it. I have been averaging 29 miles on all electric here in Florida. I do wish it had a bigger engine just to give it a bit more power however this is a daily driver for me so it works. I’m glad jeep hasn’t gone to an all digital display because if the computer chip fails that runs it you would be dead in the water. This thing came fully loaded including the one touch power roof. Also new with the 4xe this year is it came with a power box that you can plug in and use the jeep as a generator.

The stellantis rentals ("Lease") incentives out here in Colorado are insane. Side note, I hope people are buying them out after 90 days. We picked up our Rubicon X 4XE for $46,000 lease buyout. I had the opportunity to get into a 392 but my internal desire to supercharge it paired with the additional price point and struggles at mile high elevation made the 4XE a much more interesting purchase. After purchase though, the 4XE can fucking hoon... This vehicle has zero business having two high and is an absolute riot. I think its a missed opportunity to not have a Mojave trim for it though. While the tech is being developed - I don't think you should go into a 4XE because of the E range or Fuel economy, you should do it because it has no business existing, and is an absolute blast to wheel. The smiles per gallon ratio is strong in this vehicle. I am able to average 25 mpg on the freeway in hybrid mode on I25 doing 80mph regardless of battery state. YOU HAVE TO DISABLE MAX REGEN, it tanks fuel economy to 15mpg once the battery is depleted and only truly functions in stop and go city driving.

I think the 4XE has appropriate level of power. It always has ample power. The range is listed on the sticker so not sure why people complain it only gets 20 miles on a charge. Get the non-hybrid. And for the people that say it costs too much, go get a Tacoma, make it as capable as a Rubicon, make sure it still qualifies for factory warranty, and come back to report how much you saved. Negligible at best. Just .02.

Thanks for sharing‼️ The biggest drop back to 4xe is when your battery dies, it's cheaper to replace the vehicle than it is to get the battery replaced. Then you have the problems associated with fires, once it starts there's no way to put it out. Good bye Jeep... I'll stick with my gas powered 2022 Jeep Gladiator, that I am averaging 23 mpg with.

I own a 4xe Rubicon for about a year now and made it into my own xtreme recon clone. I agree with others it does need more range. Like 50 miles so when the winter hits then it can for 25 miles. It also needs a bigger fuel tank. 250-270miles on gas is all it will get. I bought mine used so the price wasn’t as much of a concern vs the new ones. It definitely has some clunkyness between the gas and electric turning on and off that hopefully they fix with the new model. It has me looking at the 392 instead but something about putting premium fuel in everytime and only getting like 12mpg for a daily or trips is not something I can grasp yet. Matt what does yours get with those 40’s on your trip down to Florida. Who ever guesses right gets a sticker ?

I don't think we are anywhere near the tech to be able to have a 100 mile range on a Wrangler 4xe. Even the Prius Prime only has 44 miles of range. The 4xe has quite a lot of pep. Keep in mind it never runs on just gas, it is always a hybrid. That 385hp and 470ftlb of torque is always there. The price, boy, I agree with you there. The Wrangler prices are getting a bit out of control
@BIrvineMancave
@BIrvineMancave 3 ай бұрын
I love Dirt Road Cred, but this bit starts out stating things that just aren't true. He doesn't seem to understand how a plug in hybrid works - you get 385hp and 470lb-ft of torque when run as a hybrid. It doesn't drop down at all and if you want all the power in EV mode the engine needs to turn on. Also saying the range drops in half below 30F hasn't been my experience, 10-15% less range is what I have with experience from about 18F to about 40F. NOt sure it would be worth it to have 50 miles of range, may as well get an EV. As far as weight - the 392 version of the wrangler is pretty heavy as well. I think heavier than the 4xe.

The 2.0 i4 turbo runs well and I can't complain there. I just hope that Jeep will make improvements in the newer models! Exciting to see! I really do like the idea of commuting back and forth to work on all electric, it's great. I just wish I could go say 2 or 3 days (8mi commute either way) without charging.

With the 15k added price tag for the 4xe the tax credit for me needs to be at least 15k! It took me a while to buy my 2024 jeep wrangler because it was hard to find a gas only version that I wanted. I ended up buying from Vermont and having it delivered to my State. Turns out it's easier to buy a car over the phone and through text messages than in the dealership. Had this exact issue when I tried to buy (and order ) in PA. They only had 4xe and I needed to order to even get the change to test drive a 2024. Ended up cancelling my order and went to DE to get a Rubi off the lot. I am not opposed to a hybrid, I thing that is where we should invest effort into, not full electric right now. But for the 20 to 30 miles of range for my 60 mile commute to work and the extra 12 to 15k in cost.... Was a hard no. I love my Jeep but they are pricing themselves out of the market and for the money are not giving much versus another 60 to 70k suv.

I just got my first Jeep less than a month ago. The Gladiator Rubicon. I really enjoy it, and in a few years I may well upgrade it to a Mojave or Rubicon Gladiator 4xe, but Jeep does need to do some things. 1) Some kind of bed liner. It's frustrating that I had to go get a spray-in bed liner given the sticker of the vehicle. 2) Pre-install some insulation on the roof panels. This is another thing I have on my list of upgrades because I live in the desert and its gonna get warm. I'm also going to just give it some time for them to work out any bugs.

100 miles electric range? where would you put the 4 times larger battery? Also it would make the jeep about 10k more expensive. The 35inch wheels and recon package is a possibility but would cost again 4k. I think more realistic is a 150HP electric motor instead of the current 130HP and maybe they find some space and get you 10% more range. That's all that's possible.

Wife just got into her first Jeep ever while I've had YJ, TJ, LJ so far and while the wifes JL is nice, new, etc.. still I'll keep my LJ all built. I think its not just the 4xe, but overall pricing of the Jeeps. Those who are Jeepers don't mind paying the $10-20k extra over what it was 5 years ago for a Rubicon or any other model, however, new folks trying out the Wrangler look at the price and with 4xe having the incentive of $7500, plus extra $$$ from dealer with some dealerships dropping pricing on 4xe by $16k going from $63k in our situation fully loaded to $47 made my wife highly consider it, just the same makes other consider that sweet $16k off. I believe pricing of the Jeeps now a days plays a huge role how they sell now a days. JKs before JLs were starting at $27k in 2018, now they are $10k more right off the lot, if not more with really not big upgrades for consumers to consider as a must have so I'll pay that. You also don't buy brand new and build, if you already have the previous years all build up to take you anywhere.

Love my 4xE. But it’s real expensive. I got my 20th 4xE Rubi for 10k off MSRP and I’m still struggling to justify buying it. I agree that it needs more range to be a “Good” PHEV. It exists in a strange world though, it’s the only off road capable PHEV. The RAV4 PRIME is not off road at all. As far as EV’s go, The Rivian and CT are capable but the 4xE is great because it’s a Jeep, the doors come off and it has the look and feel I always wanted as a kid seeing Jeeps out there. Plus it can be somewhat electric. So I can take it somewhere and only use electricity, which as a buyer is something I do want. My wife dailies a Tesla Model Y and it’s amazing to just drive to work, drive home, plug in, and never go to a gas station again. For that reason, and some others the MY is the perfect daily driver. What I want from my 4xE is: 1) I should be able to power the interior stuff when plugged in, think camping. 2) more range, to be honest this is the most important one. Jeep mught not be ready to jump on the “Full EV train” and that’s fine, and in certain situations I can go places when full EV, but ultimately for my work commute it’s just augmenting my MPG’s because it can’t sustain 70mph cruising in full EV mode. Also the batteries need to be installed in a less lazy way. Just throwing the batteries under the rear seats is the lowest effort way to accomplish that install. And it messes up the floor. 3) Jeep needs to enter the modern era, the Jeep dealer telling us “the app unlocks the truck” and it takes literally 5 minutes and he thinks it’s the coolest shit in the world. And out in the parking lot our Tesla can unlock, lock, turn on ac, open doors, play music, set climate, etc etc in literally a split second, the Jeep lags behind embarrassingly. To be clear, I don’t think a wrangler needs to have auto opening rear doors. But having an app that’s SO bad and acting like it’s good is a special kinda sad. 4) let me be EV in low range. Wheeling in 4H in EV mode is fun and like “the point”. But it’s pretty dumb that when you get to real obstacles and go to 4L the engine is forced to kick on. The hybrid integration is quite good overall, and I’m not sure what engineering limitations keep it from doing 4L on electrons but they should figure it out. At the end of the day, I am happy I have the 4xE. It’s the best JL if you can’t afford the 392. The 392 is the big boi “omg you have V8 in your jeep?” But other than that. I can park in EV charging, I’m more efficient than other jeeps, I can kind of justify being in the modern era while still being able to go off roading. I am personally a buyer who would consider an R1S as a replacement for my JLUR, but it still doesn’t come with sliders or steel bumpers, and it’s still out of my budget. And to be honest even the 20th 4xE was out of my budget before no one was buying them and I got it for a deal. But the Rivian and CT are beyond that even. Plus I drove a rental 2.0T JLU in Hawaii on our honeymoon and I HATED that engine (same engine in 4xE). The 2.0T is very peaky, and the hybrid system smooths it out and makes it a pretty good truck to drive. I was astounded at how much I disliked the 2.0T by itself. It sounds awful either way, like a big sowing machine, but at least in 4xE it drives better. Also maybe the next time we do electric power steering, quiet that shit down about 10 levels. At the end of the day, if Jeep sold a full blown EV JL and the 392 at the same time, that’s fine with me. But, I also think PHEV’s have a place in the world, because after doing several 8 hour drive road trips in Teslas, it’s absolutely doable, but it’s a different mindset. So give me something that can do my daily commute electric, save me a little $ and be smooth, quiet and easy. Then give me the ability to drive to BlackBear pass, drive the pass, and get home without worrying where I’m going to charge in the middle of nowhere. Because while charging infrastructure is great on the Tesla network, it’s not great outside of it. But that’s not really about 4xE. Also it’s super lame that the 20th 4xE’s don’t get the air compressor that the 392’s got…. So the speakers in the way? Move it. Who cares where the EV speaker is mounted. Come on bruh.

I have a Sahara 4xe, leasing it for 1/3 of what purchasing a gas version would be. The discounts are crazy because they had 42 of them on the lot. I can get by on all electric because I live close to work but can see if they stretched it to 40 miles or used a different hybrid system that just averages 35 mph like Toyota has I could see it would appeal to more folks. EPA is pushing them towards this rather than just building cars people want and can afford. Hate the blue accents too. Feels like virtue signaling. If price was same or less I would be driving a 6 MT gas engine sport with crank windows. But that would have been $150 more a month.

More range would be awesome. But there are two limiting factors that will keep any substantial range increase from happening that you actually mentioned in your video. Price and weight are the two limiting factors in seeing any range increases with the battery technology available today. The 4XE is already over 5,000 pounds and the price tag is already problematic. Jeep likely has price, weight and capability requirements on the white board in the design room. They can’t put a 6,000+ pound, $100,000 Wrangler in lots and expect it to sell.

I agree with ya! Jeep needs to do something special to balance the high price of the 4xE! Perhaps split the difference and see if the 4xE can get 50 miles per charge? Like down where you guys are, here in New England… our lots of stuffed with 4xEs! My one major concern about the Gladiator with a 4xE, is losing the under seat storage! I’m pretty sure that the gladiator has the most rear seat space out of any mid size truck available! And those batteries will hinder that!

Thanks guys for the vid! Back when they released 4xe I liked bed the idea, but it fell so short of reality. Obviously it needs range. Honestly I think 50-75 miles and it would make sense for most people. I think Jeep is moving away from its wrangler customer base and moving towards the GWagon and Grand Cherokee base. All luxury, so the price isn’t the problem. I think most people would rather less fancies(like digital dash) and have the utilitarian feel. I’d vote for a more rugged experience, better quality control, less chincy plastic, with a modern 4xe with more power, and range. Also I think they need a true “heritage edition” like ford is offering on the bronco. I’m afraid Jeep is forgetting the roots, which breaks away from its fan base and makes it seem like a rebranded euro vehicle. Make a modern vehicle with modern drivetrain, with a unique rugged appeal Not soft, luxury

I have been driving a 4xe for the past three years. I picked it up when there were little or no choices at dealers when my Grand Cherokee lease ran out. I thought i would give the 4xe a try and see if there were any benefits to a hybrid jeep. I can definitely tell you, there are no real benefits. Yes, you can get great gas mileage in hybrid mode but the range is much shorter than the 20 miles Jeep says the vehicle range is. And living in Minnesota, the winter is known for being very harsh and i asked if the cold winter will affect the battery life and was told jeep actually tested the 4xe in Northern Minnesota and they "perfected long battery life unaffected by Minnesota winter." Well that turned out nit to be true. On a -38 degree day while driving on the freeway in a desolate part of the state, the 4xe shut down. Just shut off and gave ne a Christmas tree of all the lights on the dash. I coasted to the shoulder and tried to restart the jeep but nothing happened. So, i thought i was going to die. But after waiting a few minutes i eas a le to get the jeep started but all the dash lights stayed on. When i took it to my dealer they didnt kniw what to do so they just reset the computer and tokd me i eas goid to go. I looked on the forms and many many 4xe drivers were reporting this issue. It only happened once to me but other drivers reported it happening in the cold and in the heat. Now i decided to wait until e-vehicles ate more advanced and bought a Wrangler Rubicon 392 and i couldnt be happier.

There's already a 4xe lift kit officially from mopar, so giving it an extreme package from the factory is just simply adding it to the configuration (you can already customize it through the dealer, but it is fitted on after being delivered). More electric range would be amazing, and 100 miles would be amazing!! I can't wait for the all electric jeep wrangler though. I hope it has at least 300 miles at launch. I agree with the longer range battery, seems like there is room with the extended gladiator wheelbase. I’m not sure about more features, they don’t need to over complicate things. I would like to see a magna ride style variable shock for ride quality. And of course drop the price, it’s become unobtainable and expensive for what it is. When you can get into a new Porsche macan for the same price as a rubicon something is off.

Gladiator owner here. I had a ‘24 Wrangler 4xE as a rental for a week. I liked the ‘24 dash changes. The 4X engine combo was not impressive. When you change settings to max regen any time you take your foot off the gas it dragged and felt like someone was on the brake. Full charge didn’t get me very far and the less aggressive regen didn’t make very much power once battery was down. In contrast I’ve had a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid (not that I love a minivan) and I got amazing performance out of the hybrid system. Funny that Stellantis doesn’t feel to be working together with their own brands.

I had a ’23 Willys 4xe for approximately 11 months. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, it was just meh. Considering the price it needs a lot more. Battery life, especially in the winter, was completely useless. And the extra $200 for license plates, even though I was still buying plenty of gas, was also a turn off. Plugging it in everyday and unplugging every morning before work just got old. It was quick with the combined battery and turbo, but still seemed underpowered. I traded for a 6 speed manual V6, and to be honest, it is underpowered too. I think they need to do something with the engine lineup across the board. Most people can’t shell out $90k plus for the 392. More electric range, more power, onboard power converter, and wireless charging…..also include the stage 2 charger!

I contemplated a 4xe when ordering my last Wrangler, mostly for the tax credit. But the limited range is a no-go for me. My commute is more than double what the battery range is capable of. Then when you're in gas mode, you have a 2.0T carrying all that weight of the battery cells. Maybe one day Jeep will get it figured out and offer a better battery powered off-roader, but this isn't it.

The 4Xe Gladiator is a no-brainer. What it really needs though is a payload increase, and E-85 capability. It should have a GVWR around 7200 lbs to get the payload over 2000# even with the large battery. If it was optimized for E-85 many Americans could buy half priced fuel too, while further reducing emissions, and operating costs. I think the new Ford Ranger PHEV will be E-85 flex fuel capable.
