Megyn Kelly TODAY welcomes Jessica Knoll, author of the novel “Luckiest Girl Alive” as well as a controversial op-ed piece headlined “I Want to Be Rich and I’m Not Sorry.” Knoll criticizes a double standard for women, saying that “men are allowed to seek wealth and to seek power in a way that men are not.”

I was a struggling (financially) single mother and teacher (which I adore doing) for decades. I always worked another job to supplement the teaching income. The money struggle and two jobs wore me down for most of my adult life and affected my health. Then in my late 50's I received a substantial inheritance which has enabled me to stay in teaching, retire from my second job, pay off my little house and car and start feeling secure when I fall asleep at night. My health has improved greatly. And I can donate to charitable causes which means the world to me. Money helps so much and the feeling of security is priceless. Nothing wrong with wanting more money!

exactly nothing wrong when wanting to have more money, what is wrong when everyone wants the same and yet nobody wants to share especially the filthy top 1% rich hold on to 99% of it...... and so society becomes a fraud when this drama happens to fight for money fair share!

This just changed my life Megyn Kelly. When I first read the title I thought this would be a video about some pretentious woman who wants to accumulate designer clothes, shoes, and makeup. It horrified my ego to see this is actually the kind of woman I want to be; unafraid of her opinions and ambitions. Maybe my judgements were so strong because secretly I wanted to be rich too (and in being judgmental I'm trying to convince myself I don't want to be rich, so I can avoid the fear of failure if I decided to chase my dreams). So with that, my life mentality from this day forward is the same as Ms. Knoll: that I'm not sorry for wanting to be a financially successful woman. One day I know I'll become just as rich and powerful as other men.. not solely because I want to pave the path for future generations of ambitious females, but because I, Alana Kircher, WANT TO!

Where does this “girls have to put others first” and “girls have to be polite and not make other people uncomfortable” attitude come from? It wasn’t part of my upbringing. It makes me feel like it starts with the parents, but why?

Im a nurturer and still want to be rich lol I want it all. I can still relate to her a lot tho esp the trauma part. Its a lot to want a family and a career esp bc I put off having a family to get the career and now its not coming as easily I thought it would to get pregnant/the career gets in the way with stress and what not. Its not easy to be a woman either way.

The thing is a "lot" of women have been rich and successful like Oprah, before her. What so different with her statement!!! NOTHING. She just said it out loud! I like women who are working hard, driven, ambitious, and smart like her and others. But doing it is so different from just saying it! Just saying. Other successful women who are on top doesn't need to say it. It is proven in works. Her works are far from other women I have seen!
@terriesmith8219
@terriesmith8219 6 жыл бұрын
glady penalosa~100% agreed! Actions speak louder than words. Women who are truly successful doesn't need to verbalize it. They don't need to shout it to the world. They just do it. Their actions says it all. There is nothing wrong with women wanting to be rich. I'm a woman and I've never been told once that wanting to be rich is wrong or shameful. I also live in the US. No one can shame you unless you allow it. No one can make you feel less than unless you allow it. No one can stop you (unless there's a gun pointed at you) unless you allow it. Everything is within you. It all starts with you.

@djregina6897

Sorry but that comment is absolutely unnecessary. Her work isn’t on the level of Oprah? Her work helps a lot of women that shared her experience (or similar tragedies) so maybe her work doesn’t touch you but what she’s doing is great. Also, not everyone is Oprah and not everyone will be a multi millionaire. She never said she wants to be a millionaire, she just wants to be successful which is ACTUALLY frown upon for the average woman.

Im genuinely confused -- who says it's controversial for a woman to want to be successful? why do they always try to paint us woman like we are victims? so unhelpful and annoying... like they keep repeating this narrative trying to convince us that men are out to get us . I really resent that

SarLuKF~100% agreed. They always want to paint women as victims but in actuality, women can be and do whatever they want to do. They just have to be resourceful enough and they have to want it badly enough to sacrifice everything to achieve the things they want in life. Alot of males and females today have a victim mentality, victim mindset. Not all obviously, but alot do. Sad really.

@daliakuwait
@daliakuwait 2 жыл бұрын
Completely untrue! I am very fortunate--grew up wealthy, had everything paid for including a Harvard college and Harvard law school graduate and I had a regular childhood. Some people are born at a major disadvantage. They cannot just "get rich" by working hard necessarily. Many overcome past childhood traumas or having no parents or being sexually abused by their fathers, and the list goes on! But many cannot, and honestly suffer despite their best efforts for the rest of their lives. So please don't be so judgmental and don't make assumptions. You assume that everyone can make money and be rich "if they work hard enough." And that's not at all true as I have just explained. Furthermore, there most certainly is a stigma about successful women-- especially ACADEMICALLY successful women but ALSO wealthy and career- focused women who don't want kids. It's everywhere and if you can't see that then I won't be able to convince you otherwise here!

I'm so so sorry she went through what she went through. that is so awful and traumatic. I could never imagine.... but when it comes to the new book about money, I just wanna say that it seems to be a repetitive cycle with feminists....they always talk about what they FEEL like they can't do not what they CAN'T ACTUALLY DO.

Ways in getting rich in the USA...step one: find a rich husband, Step two:have kids with rich husband, Step three: divorce rich husband...and voila. In less than a year you could be a millionaire....OR!!! do it the hard way and work for it, in what part of the USA are women discriminated and held back to getting rich??

Tom Smith it's a shame how so few men have no real respect or compassion for women. Men are more likely to see women as walking vaginas to be used and discarded more than they see them as human beings with feelings. And then they wonder why women hate men so much. Well there's your answer. It's comments like yours that keep the cycle going. You sure are fulfilling your manly duty, aren't you.

Or be an entrepenuer and be your pwn boss! Or win the lottery. Or empower other women and form an awsome team and community where you can barter services in a lucrative way. You create your own limitations by buying into a sexist male dominated POV that wants to tell women how to be. Most importantly be a woman and never like a man and the sky is the limit!

But people need money to buy things like food, rent, a car, etc., so it’s important to have lots of it. Money buys freedom, and freedom buys happiness. This is true regardless of which religion/cult/superstition you cling to. Yesterday’s religions are today’s mythology, and today’s religions will be the mythology of the future. If you believe in a particular religion, it’s a product of whatever culture you grew up in where that religion was dominant. If you grew up in Afghanistan you would be believing in a different set of supernatural mumbo-jumbo specific to that region of the world, so what religion you believe in is really just arbitrary.
