not all that long ago i had to get a completely new phone because voip wasnt being supported anymore and my phone wasnt compatible with the new guideline or some other flimsy excuse i got from my cell provider. a few months later my mom had the same issue so we were both set back hundreds of dollars because of an actual arbitrary switch being flipped. obviously phone manufacturers were coming out with new stuff and this could have just been pushed to a point where most people already had phones that supported the new protocols so the extra expense wouldnt have been a big deal to anyone unless they still used a nokia 3210 or something like that

@17:19 Well, yes we do use UNIX (kind of). macOS is derived from NextStep, which was the OS Steve Jobs company (NeXT Computer) used after he got kicked out of Apple. Apple then bought NeXT Computer, and Apple ditched OS9 for their new OS (OSX (10)) to be based on NextStep, which is based on BSD (UNIX). Mac still heavily uses a lot of it's OS layers based on BSD (UNIX). Also, BSD (UNIX) is used for a lot of servers and CDN's (Netflix uses BSD for it's CDN).

Conspiracies Windows includes updates to make older pc's run like trash, Nvidia includes updates to make older video cards run like crap.

And from unix came linux and thus the golden standard for industrial OS

I wish anyone would explain the iPhone issue correctly but I still haven’t seen it done. The problem with the iPhone was that it would literally shut off at certain percentages because as the battery got old it couldn’t actually maintain enough voltage to keep the phone stable. Apple solution was to reduce the voltage requirements of the CPU because it turns out when your phone just fucking turns off in the middle of day that’s far worse than a slightly slower phone. Apples patch literally fixed my problem allowed me to keep using my device. Every fucking time I see people talk about this issue they never mention the fact that phones were just shutting off with more than 50% battery left.

Sonos did the planned obsolescence and ended up with the CEO providing an apology about it. Perfectly good hardware just rendered useless.
