Gosh that compressed air gun is far quieter than the cartridge ones used in the UK. How does one build up the frame for the cill, revels, head and apron and the (polyiso) insulation inside the rivals/cill/head to achieve airtightness?

Wouldn't you wanna put expansion foam around the window before doing the trim? I'm not a contractor or builder but have taken an interest in this kinda work. Still learning

In the studio, Tommy is instructing how to install window trim. At a real house he would make sure the wndow is properly insulated.

In a real situation the miters would rarely fit tight and you have to adjust the cut angles. Its the hardest part to trimming a door or window and they dont mention it at all.

The miters should also be nailed from top...you’ll never see any separation ever...unless a tornado or mega quake comes through

you're correct if the other boards were already in place.. the beauty of finish work is it's just there to hide the ugly.. since you're putting the side pieces on, you can be sure they're correct.. if it needs to hang over the edge of the window an eighth of an inch, that's ok.. paint will hide it

It is the same thickness dimension of whatever material you are using, just cut another bevel similiar to an outside corner and square cut that along the short point of your bevel

So, I removed the old frame...sorry, TRIM from around my bathroom window, and there's a 1/2 inch of raised wood from the casing of the window. I don't want to pack behind the new trim (and neither does my wife, which is more important) so how can I get rid of this extra half inch? And why is this stuff always harder in real life?

At 3:13 the top right 45 degree seam is mismatched by at least 3/4" would have been nice to show how he fixed it if he in fact did - I couldn't tell but in subsequent frames it looked like it might have matched. At 3:30 it looks fixed but it isn't very clear.

+Steven Vontomeyer Get a decent monitor. It is just the top edge of the trim is overexposed in the video, making it appear to almost disappear on that right side.
@coltonmccormack8978
@coltonmccormack8978 8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Vontomeyer Umm, no. It's clearly lined up perfectly at 3:13. The top edge of the wood is just overexposed and bright (light yellow almost) from the light above the window.
@Justadude1904
@Justadude1904 8 жыл бұрын
+Colton McCormack looked like he just didn't have it lined up yet. One easy way to avoid that tho is don't nail the top 12-18" of the vertical trim until you're ready to piece together the top trim.
@Engineer9736
@Engineer9736 6 жыл бұрын
Edgar Nattress It does actually look crooked. But the video resolution is too low to see what’s actually wrong there. Looks like a mismatch indeed.

I still don't understand why 7 degrees for the stool panel....
@ObsessionMotorcycles
@ObsessionMotorcycles 10 жыл бұрын
The front edge of the stool has a degree bevel along the front. Tommy is putting a matching bevel on each side to keep it all uniform on the thee visible sides instead of one at 7 and two straight side.

You're supposed to work from one side to the other, from left to right leaving a side case for last, the header casing will never fit properly and the angles will need to be adjusted accordingly.

Makes it look real easy but as soon as he glued the joints he lost a lot of points as every furniture builder knows, glue doesn't do much for end-grain. at that point it's more like caulk than anything else.
@John-vm1ou
@John-vm1ou 7 жыл бұрын
This would be true in the past but todays glue has improved end grain adhesion.
