The song's title can be found in the Mesogothic Anglo-Saxon glossary as "In-Maidjan", which means "deceptively change" or "corrupt". This makes sense since the entire story within the album consists of a peaceful village that is corrupted by having to go to war. Therefore, Proto-Germanic seems to be the language. Harigasti Teiwa Harigasti Teiwa "is a clear Germanic reference to the Negau helmet. This helmet contains several Etruscan alphabet inscriptions that include the words" Harigasti teiwa which are the first words of the song. This could be translated as Harigast (the priest) although it could also mean, the priest of Teiwaz (Tyr). Tawol Athodu - I accept the invitation. Ek Erilaz - I am a runemaster. The word has been interpreted to mean magician or runemaster. The word is an ablaut variant of count and it is believed that it could be linguistically related to the name of the tribe of the Heruli or Herulos. The Heruli were a Germanic tribe from Scandinavia that was invaded by the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. So it is probably simply an old military title of Germanic provenance. Owlthuthewaz - owlthu (glorious) thewaz (servant). Means servant of the glorious Niwaremariz - Priest of the god "Ullr" / famous, renowned. From the proto-Germanic term Wulþuz (glory) wolþu- is possibly a reference to a God, surely the God Ullr. Saawilagar Hateka - My name is Sawilagaz. Harja - Army - leader of the army; commander; Warrior Wuotani Ruoperath Wuotani - Oh, Wodan! Ruoperath - famous and brilliant. This could be interpreted as the following: I, Priest Harigast. Aaccept the invitation (to battle) I am the Heruli. I am a renowned priest of Ullr. They call me Warrior. Oh, Wodan the famous and brilliant! Or it could also be interpreted as: Come, guest Tyr For this invocation I, the Rune Master, servant of Odin, call upon the one of the Sun to aid our army The next chant are the names of the 24 Norse runes of the Elder Futhark. This is also known as runic song. Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo, Hagal, Naudhiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Perthro, Algiz, Sowelu, Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Dagaz, Othala. In English: Wealth, Aurochs, Thorn, Divine Breath, Travel, Torch, Gift, Joy, Hail, Need, Ice, Harvest, Tree, Luck, Elk, Sun, Creator, Birch tree, Horse, Man, Water, Fertility, Day, Home. Odin, prepare for battle!

Cool! Not common to see a comment go so deep. Thank you for that! I just want to add that "Harigast" is often (not always) seen as a personal name and that it could be made up of the words "harjaz" (army, troop, warband, war) and gastiz (stranger, guest). The forms "Hari" and "gast" is particularly found in west-germanic. As such the name could mean "war guest" or "foreign army".

Samuel, I found wardruna first in my quarantine musical journey, as I like to call it. Listened to their albums with ivar bjornson who is from enslaved which led me to symphonic metal, and let me say the journey isn’t over. But Something about listening to a tribal band based on old readings and using ancient instruments in a language you don’t know that just takes me to another realm in another time. It’s something I can’t quite put into words right. I absolutely love both of these bands when I just need to block the rest of the noise out of my head, and just accept what the are giving.

Welcome to the beginning of a new life, a life in which you now know of Heilung. It really sinks into your DNA, where you access your primal self from 10,000 years ago. They use as natural of materials as possible, made by hand. Animals skins, anters, skulls, human bones, human ash filled rattles. Pretty legit. Songs, hmmm; Alfadhirhaiti, Kriggsgaldr, Norupo, and if you want a cardio workout without doing anything, then i suggest Hamrer Hippyer, Odins healing chant.

The first part of the song is a war chant, the second part is the runic alphabet being recited over and over again, the final part is Maria Franz performing a mixture of different chants and "kulning" (herd calling traditional of Norway and Sweden). It's incredibly unique. And yes, most instruments are handmade using animals skins and bones, but also human bones... No joke. You should do yourself a favour and watch the entire LIFA live show at Castlefest. It's a life changing experience! I wished I could've been there...

Now you know why Heilung calls themselves "Amplified History"! In Maidjan is an introduction to the Runic alphabet, each rune has a meaning rather than being a letter. It's bands way of teaching the story that's upcoming. "Lifa" is essentially about a village that's forced to be going to war with another village. The english part of "Krigsgaldr" explains this well ("why can't you leave me and me people in peace? But you only understand the language of the sword"). "Hamrer Hippyer" is their one song from Lifa that I can totally zone out to!

Like folks say..there's a whole lot to them. You get lost in their full hour long show. My energy really charges from the aforementioned Alfadhirhaiti which is a song hailing Odin and naming the many names of Odin along with his totem companions. The performance finishing song Hamrer Hippyer is also great...but is just very long tribal percussive celebration that kind of can trance a person out. This song really spotlights Maria's range and I loved it for learning the runes...even if it's such a nordic/germanic accent.

As Trivia, the bones they use as instruments are real and a few of them are from HUMAN bones (a bandmembers grandmother donated em) hence they often get into trouble at airportchecks. If you want more from them there is are quite some good ones out there. Krigsgaldr (warsong) is one of the more shocking, Norupo from the soothing and my favorite as lover of norse mythology is svanrand

People here were recommending Corvux Corax which is great. My first exposure to anything related to folk / folk-anything music was In Extremo, which is a German folk-rock/metal band, through which I found Corvux Corax. They are not so popular especially when it comes to reactions, but I have soft spot for them and would be glad if you checked them out, Weckt die Toten album as a good example of their music. Also what is similar between this song you are reacting to and In Extremo is that they have been both featured in video games, Hellblade and Gothic (oldschool stuff lol) respectively. And Heilung rules. More! :)

As you liked this you definitely should have a look at „Corvus Corax“ from Germany. They are called „The Kings of Minstrels“.

Hey Thomas, Yeah something new for you ;o) Danish Christopher Juul and the Norwegian singer Maria Franz (of the folk trio Songleikr and the progressive rock/pop-rock band Euzen) are a couple and they founded Heilung with their friend vocalist and tatoo artist Kai Uwe Faust. These guys and the whole band that also consist of French, Dutch and American members take you onto a journey. I hope I'll have the opportunity to see them live sometime - I'm told their concerts are amazing and quite something else...

Heilung really are about stream of consciousness and altered mind states, if you allow your mind to just flow into it you come out of the other side feeling better even if you don't understand what is being sung/canted. I have taken part in these rites as they are a part of what I believe, the Celts would have embraced or even created the word we live in, they led technology and even today some of what they did cannot be bettered, I love Heilung and what they create, a safe place

Hey Bill, wow, thanks for another well written comment. That's a great point about not even needing to understand and think about anything in particular. I'm going to revisit them soon. 🙂

You should react to the song Helvegen by Wardrune. And go for the live version, there is one where they sing inside a cliff i think.. it is haunting and beautiful.

Hi. I don't know your language, but I hope the translator will translate it correctly. I haven't watched you before, but I liked this reaction. Few words - lots of emotions! This is right! This is what the reaction should be. Don't forget to rate Hamrer Hippyer! (Привет. Я не знаю твой язык, но надеюсь переводчик переведёт правильно. You might also like Norupo, filmed by some standing stones. There’s also Trauste filmed in front of a live audience. I believe trauste means trust…and for just a moment it looks like they’re strangling a band member right on stage….performance art. Strange group
