Just learned today, the original owner has restarted Thompson Center and is going back into production!

Triggers on them are notoriously heavy. Mine was 4.8lbs until yesterday I installed the new spring kit. Took about 2hrs and it's 1.8 to 2lbs. And very crisp nice brake

That is a very cool rifle. I recently acquired a T.C. Encore 308 Barrel it's labeled made in Nashua , New Hampshire. I was told it was unfired. My 6.5 CM barrel is made in Springfield, Mass. I can't believe the prices on T.C. frames,barrels, & stocks.nice video.

You could also fire 45 Schofield, 45 Short Colt (if you could find it), and most importantly, 45 Auto Rim. I think Starline had 45 Auto Rim in stock recently. What a fun plinker that would be.

I'd be tempted to have MGM make me a barrel in .375 x .444 Marlin, aka .375 JDJ, for that frame. I used to own a 14" .375 JDJ barrel for my G2 Contender, it was a lot of fun to shoot and hit hard. It was easy to form cases and reloading it was a breeze. It really liked the (now discontinued) 220 grain Hornady flat nose meant for the .375 Winchester and a case full of RL15.

The issue I had with the .460 S&W Pro Hunter was the scope holding zero. I was getting crazy groups using the Hornady 200 grain FTX. The gun shop that mounted the scope said it was likely the use of firing .45 Colt creating the accuracy issue. I harvested a few Whitetail deer. I never had an exit hole or blood trail. Deer would run about 100 -200 yards. The bullet would grenade like a varmint bullet. I eventually sold the barrel with scope for $350 to a local about 4 years ago. I just have the original .50 cal ML with wood furniture. The guy at the range offered me $1000 for it.

My pop has had one for years, with numerous barrels, it is a neat concept, but I always opted for a good bolt action instead, lot more bang for the buck.👍 Have not looked at them in years, they are a good looking rifle though.😁 Love the stainless and black, reminds me of my A-bolt.

I have that same gun and I bought a 45-70 government barrel for it also and I have the different calipers to shoot out of it…. Also very true about the 400 legend. My local gun shop told me Savage is going to be the first one to release the 400 legend even though it’s from Winchester I guess it’s something the two companies worked out with each other.

Love my encore.Use it for everything from woodchuck to black bear. Just swap out the barrel.

I got the same gun, and i chose 460 because of its versatility same with the Encore You can also shoot 45 Schofield as well.....and you might be able to shoot 410 but I haven't tried that and with the rifled barrel I don't see the point 454 is the sweet spot, cleary got thump yet the rifle weight makes recoil quite light, and the magnums like the extra barrel I chronographed large velocity jump and in turn performance real nice

It's pronounced Kah-TAH-din like Mt. Katadin Maine. Excellent review, thanks. I like the Encore/Pro Hunter 460 model vs S&W 500. Both will rock your world but 45 Colt and 454 Casull are more forgiving to your shoulder AND your wallet. Heads up; the muzzle loader foregrip has a cutout for the ramrod. The rifle foregrip will accept all rifle barrels (that I have). The two foregrips for shotgun either 12 gauge or 20 gauge (one for each barrel). Also. a very interesting rifle is the T/C Dimension; another S&W casualty.

they're single shot pistols were cool. i shot 454 casull in taurus raging bull didn't bother me. rifle seemed nice.

I wonder what velocities you're getting out of this setup. I clocked those same Hornady Custom 200gr at over 2600 fps our of my XVR with the 8 3/8" barrel. I imagine that 16" has to be picking up at least 200 fps based on the obnoxious flash my revolver's brake emitted.

Wondering how the 7.62x39 compares to the .460 S&W MAG...?? I have a 1/2 in. AR500 steel target that is dented very similar to what that .460 just did using an SKS....?? 5.56 doesn't do anything than damage the paint but moving Much faster??

I resisted the 460 only because I was well invested in the 45/70. But I didnt give thought to ability of ;54 and 45 Colt loads.

It's a shame S&W shut down Thompson. I have an Encore with 5 barrels. Depending on barrel contour you do need specific handguards. Other than that it's completely modular. They did make a muzzleloader only model that does not accept other barrels but I forget how you tell it apart. Used prices on the Encore with a single barrel are off the charts and climbing. I've seen some selling for close to $1500 on the auction sites recently.

Isn't there a problem with the shorter cartridges? Having to jump the gap in the chamber that is longer because it is made for a four sixty smith and wesson magnum. I heard the smaller cartridges cause a ring or some issue in the chamber that has to be cleaned.

That’s not a ProHunter model. It’s a regular Encore that happens to have a ProHunter barrel on it. Regardless, they are amazing rifles. Great video!

Wish you would have ran all those through a chronograph. My 8” barreled 460 is averaging 2360fps. I’d be interested to see the speed difference from revolver length barrels to a carbine length such as this one. I believe the speed gained out of your length of barrel would lead me to question why there was ever a need for the 350 legend, 360 Buckhammer, or 400 legend? Nothing wrong with options, but it seems there is already straight walls available that fly faster and hit harder than they do.

Sooooo, are we gonna see some ballistic gel comparisons with the t/c vs pistol? Would be pretty cool if you did…

My grandfather hunted with that same rifle for years. Thing was dead on and packed a punch. Too bad he never got a buck in front of him with that.

They're no longer made. I have several Encores in different calibers. The last one I bought was the 45-70 Katahdin model. Smith and Wesson shut down Thompson Center in 2019. These are no longer made.

So I'm communicating on this older video now ,with the potential you have already learned what I'm about to pass on. With the 460 smith and wesson wesson come more versatility than realized. So cartridges not mentioned that could be added to the list . The 45-55 walker, which I actually have a 1847 walker being converted to from a 45 colt conversion cylinder. The .45 scholfield, today replica brass fits fine in the colt rim diameter. Also everyone of the fore mentioned is also capable of black powder loads. And black powder is no laughing matter on horse power. Other than case dementions, and bullet diameter of .452 instead of . 458, the 460 smith and wesson capacity equals 45-60 Winchester. On the note of 45-55 walker I also rechambered my 45 colt barrel to it and an 18" 12 shotgun barrel sleeve to.

Leverguns50 loaded some .45-90 225gr copper loads just squeaking out just shy of 3,000 fps. Would be cool if Ruger found it in them to bring back H&R. They had the Handi-rifle in various calibers, and they used the conventional push button break release with an ejector.

I asked Thompson Center Arms or whoever owns or who ever owned Thompson Center these day and they told me I could not shoot 454 Casull or 45 Colt out of the 460 S&W magnum rifle

So MGM says a 460 out of a 24 inch barrel is 2931 with almost 3000 fp and a 16 inch 2783fps and 2700fp that’s with a 200 ftx .. that’s crazy energy

Don't put a lot of oil on those gun if you do the extractor want work an you will have to punch the emptys out with a rod

Why would you showcase a gun that is no longer being produced? Since Smith and Wesson bought TC they have successfully stopped the manufacture of their products and as an avid TC fan and user it really ticks me off and as a result I would never support any of Smith and Wessons products. I have an Encore and one of the reasons I bought it was because you could get different barrels for it but other than finding something pre owned I am sol . Why would you discontinue one of the best and most popular line of guns out there it just doesn’t make sense. That’s my rant .

Loosen that rubber butt pad and slip the edge of the shell holder under it and tighten it back down. Your shell holder will no longer slide forward.
