I've had the chance to play with mine some and find it to be an excellent all around knife. What surprised me is how well it chops. The knife isn't heavy but the 5" blade can really go to work chopping. I'm not a metal guru, but the steel seems to hold a sharp edge through much use. Touch ups are easy on either a ceramic rod or just via light stropping. Finally, the sheath is excellent. I wish all knives came with such a well constructed sheath. For the approximately $50 US I paid, this is an excellent heavy duty bushcraft knife!

@@Thoristesting hej Thor!

Thor, This is the first of your videos I have watched. It was truly refreshing to watch some one who knows how to get the best use out of a medium sized knife blade when chopping with it. When you rotated that branch and chopped it circumferentially I thought, "Finally a knife reviewer who knows how to think and get the best use out of a tool!" Watching many other knife tests/reviews it is painful to see how they only work one way, and not always the smartest, with getting through lumber. I've even seen some who, I swear, don't grasp that heat from a fire Goes Up! Like I said, Painful. I have subscribed and plan to check out many more of your evals. I have been looking at the JaakariPuukos for some time now, debating whether I should get the 110 or the 140. You have helped me decide on the 140 today. Thank you.

The 110 and 140 look like great knives. I have several bushcraft style knives, but usually go with my scandi styled ones as they seem to work best with what I do. I'm kind of torn between the 140 and the kellam fang. In your opinion, how would these compare? Signed, your newest subscriber.

Hi Michael, thats a tough one, it kind of depends on what you like, the terävä is a better knife i think, it is like the producers say, a no bullshit knife, no dikidi just knife, full tang and a great durabel grind. The fang on the other hand is a well made, no dought, and it is a beauty, and I would were it anytime. So going out on the town I would chose the Fang, and it will dominans well, but in the Bush I would go with the Terävä 😀🇩🇰

Thor-is-testing Its funny cause I ended up buying the Garberg just after my comment here 4 months ago. I've been using it for my edc and its a really good knife, Mora did an excellent job IMO on the handle design. At first I wasn't to sold on their choice of material but after 3months of daily work the handle gets smooth and very comfortable, its also tough as nails. I plan on getting that 140 cause the 110 is to close to the Garberg size, I think the extra length is perfect, esp for batoning and clearing limbs.
@Thoristesting
@Thoristesting 7 жыл бұрын
the garberg is also a very nice knife, I have not testede it but I have used it :) The Terävä is a bit more "primitive" and gung ho, and a bit bigger than the Garberg as you point out, I think you will love it :)

Thor, which do you prefer, the Jaakaripuukko 140 cm. or the Peltonen M95? They are both similar knives, designed for the same role. It is therefor reasonable to do a direct comparison. I have both, and, whilst they are each superb, I think that the Jaakaripuukko is that little bit better.
@Thoristesting
@Thoristesting 7 жыл бұрын
Hej Anthony, thats a dificult one, they are similar, but different in 2 ways i think. The m95 is a military knife, and hens slimmer and more combat knife. the terävä is a bush knife broader with a wider grind. So if I neede a combat knife i World go with the m95, but as a bushcrafter i would go with the terävä. Also I use firesteel a lot, and the m95 is coatede and Can not be usede with firesteel. So a littel favor toward terävä. BUT they i both great knife, and I would trust my life with both

The 110 is all out until 3 weeks out...but I'm thinking the 140 seems better for things like this, seems a bit more versatile at the cost of some dexterity in doing some tasks like shaving wood. J.P. Peltonen makes a good one for rangers but it's about twice as expensive
@Thoristesting

PeuraPitkä, I agree, the 140 is probably more visible, but I have not yet have the privilege to have the 110 in hand, but I hear it's nice to. I love the peneltonen to, as I recall it not that much more than the 140, but I could be wrong

In your opinion, how does this one compare to the J.P. Peltonen M95? I've been using the M95 for almost 20 years now, I'm exceedingly happy with it and I was wondering if the Jääkäripuukko 140 would be even better.
@Thoristesting
@Thoristesting 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dimetropteryx, sr for the late answer, i have been off the grid, this point have been pointed out in some of the other comments :) but generel they are both awsome knifes, about the same size and quality, the way they differ is that the M95 is more slim, and have a finer edge, also it is coated so it can't be used with firesteel. I think if your a militaryman or some sort paramilitary organisation, i think the M95 is the best, if your a bushcrafter i think the Terävä is better :)
@Dimetropteryx
@Dimetropteryx 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. :) I suppose I am a bushcrafter. Haven't had much use for my firesteel yet, I'm still running around with matches. I have the oldest model of the M95, which has a rounded spine, so using it to strike sparks is definitely out of the question. The oldest model was also blued instead of teflon coated.

How hard is it to keep the rust off compared to 1095
@Thoristesting
@Thoristesting 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Trey, Hmmmm that depends on how you take care of your knifes, normally I tend to like Canbon vs Steinless steel in that it is easy to sharpen. but like you say, it have a tendency to rust. but if you clean your knife after using it and keep it oiled i have no problem with rust, though another carbon knife i had, i cut som appels for a Mose, and that made rust stains within hours, so thats something to think of

Sandpapered the heat treat off and im not sure what i like better... with heat treat or not. Its a great knife though. the handle geometry is great and feels great. The sheath is outstanding for the cost of this knife. Does it look like a bark river or ltwr knife? No, but this knife wasnt build to show off. It was built to use and get things done with.

We talk about a comparison between the terävä and the pentelton m95 and which one is the best, and like I say, I really don't like to directly compare knifes, there are function, price, type and many more things that makes it difficult. But if I were to conclude it is that the pentelton is slimmer and made for military, and the terävä is made for bushcraft. So if I were a military man (paramilitary) I would chose m95, if I were a buchcrafter I would chose terävä

I infer that the knife does have a full tang, but is it a rat tailed tang. Rat tailed tangs are, all too often, weak.

Hi Kayakwinds, I Have never head the term rat tailed tang, god expression. I do agree that "rat tailed" is not the same thing as full tang, I think in another video I called it penetrating tang. the reason I say it here is that Terävä say it is a full tang. But ur right is not. Were I am not sure I agree is that you state that it is often too weak, I have never heard of a "rat tailed Tang" that was weak, many uses this method, including Fällkniven and Mora

The Marine K-bar has a rat tailed tang and some people have complained that the tang is prone to break when that kind of knife is batoned. Clearly there is a lot less mental in that sort of tang. Consider how much narrower the profile of the knife is at the handle. Of course, depending upon the quality of the steel,some rat tailed knives will be stronger than others. Problems may arise when processing wood.

Kayakwinds , hmmmm interesting, but if the tang i the same wide as the blade, i think that it will be as strong as the full tang, but elseI agree, interesting with the ka-bar, ill keep it in mind 😀🇩🇰

Jääkäripuukko is full tang. They say it on their website and you can also see it when looking at the knife.

How it is called differs. In the USA they call any tang that runs all the way through a full tang. I disagree. IMO a full tang is where you see the tang on both sides of the handle. Often they have some cutout in the tang (skeletonized) to reduce weight and increase the balance or have it tapered down (it gets thinner). A rat tail tang is a hidden tang that sticks inside the handle or runs all the way through but gets smaller at the top like most Mora's and older Puuko's have. A stick tang is usually broader (stronger) but not visible and does not run all the way through, like Hultafors. Fallkniven calls their tang a protruding stick tang, meaning that it is a stick tang but runs all the way through and is visible at the end of the handle. I would classify this Puukko also as a protruding stick tang because from the pictures on their website you can see that is stays broad all the way and does not taper down like a rat tail. Just my 2 cents.

You need to turn up your volume when you are recording your videos. I can barely hear you.

bashfulbrother, I know that some of the videos may sound a little, and when there is wind it is worse, but this is as high as my camera can record 😀 Must take a look at a better camera

I received my Jakaaripuuko Terava 140 yesterday. Be warned guys, I'm 'Very' dissapointed, it's really badly ground on one side near to the tip so the tip is misshapen, and also on the other side near to the handle. Maybe the company is doing so well that they've ran out of suitably skilled staff because my knife looks like it was made by an apprentice who started late on the day it was made. My initial impression when I unboxed it was 'CHEAP'. To be fair the sheath is very well made but I can't feel any affinity at all for the knife. The handle is just like a cheap bread knife's. Not saying it won't do the job but it feels absolutely bog-standard to me. I've got no dog in the fight between knife manufacturers but I really wish I'd put my cash into a Mora Garberg Carbon, I went to check one out today in one of the Military Shops they have here, (Poland), and I could really feel the quality in my hand. i'll put the Terava on ebay when I return to the UK. I'm going to copy and paste this comment on other pages. 'VERY DISSAPOINTED"

Hi David, That is NOT OK, and to be honest it is the first time I hear that from anybody. I think it sounds like a bad knife you have got. why dont you contact the seller store and make them take it return??? The garberg is a fine knife to though. if you cant get the store to look at it. maybe i can set my Contact in Finland in contact with you?
