I take a "it is what it is" attitude towards most of the movies you've covered, but I draw a line at actual harm / animal involvement. I know lots of people would have drawn the line at actual vomit, but like, that's art I guess. Stops being art when animal harm shows up imo.
@mere51683 жыл бұрын
The only thing that worries me about the vomit is the potential to damage an actor's throat :/ so when an actor is called on to repeatedly vomit, i think that could cross where i draw the line. But for me its not so much a line about when things stop being art more when art stops being worth making. Generally if you have to hurt people to make your art?? Then find another way to make it or just stop. Art can be emotionally taxing and dangerous to make of course, but artists who dont prioritize taking care of the people who help them make their shit can rot honestly.
@aj47533 жыл бұрын
@@mere5168 yea i think about that too, but also i feel like if the actor is aware of the damage it may cause them and chooses to do it then it's okay. kinda like how people who choose to skydive know they may die but choose to do it anyways

just wanted to say the intro that you're using at the moment is so genius, it's a jam and the visuals aren't upsetting/disturbing so it gets viewers more relaxed and ready to listen to you talk about horrible things, but it still fits the ~spooky aesthetic~ perfectly. 12/10

also, i really like how you worded the sort of "warning labels" on super-disturbing movies. really something i could've done with hearing & taking to heart as a teenager. watching your channel has in part been a way for me to experience the stuff i initially found fascinating about those types of movies without getting too immersed in them and using them as a coping mechanism, so thank you!

In regard to "gross" content, I reckon it has more value when it has meaning and whatnot behind it. To paraphrase Nick Nocturne, say something that means something. Ironically, I don't feel like shock value has much value when it's overused, but when it's used sparingly, it can be effective. For instance, a lot of horror games depend on jumpscares and it detracts from the experience, but Eternal Darkness has one big "jumpscare" jumpscare that helps uphold a certain sense of paranoia in a game that has very VERY few traditional jumpscares in it.

I kinda love how quarantine era has tempted May into becoming some kind of de facto Troika universe version of Elvira. What I mean is, Elvira always made commentary on B movies. Think of what B movies would be like inside the Troika universe. They'd be the kind of stuff May's been subjecting herself to. I feel for her. But I also feel for the would probably still be up for watching something puke again. Bad gorefests are like a moth and flame kind of addiction, tbh.

As someone who loves to indulge in the weirder/darker side of ~c i n e m a~ I appreciate this video helping me feel like this is an okay and sometimes perfectly healthy endeavor...sometimes! Also, not sure if you know but the correct term is dissociate when referring to the mental state. Disassociate can make sense too but I wasn't sure which way you were using it in this video (I have D.I.D., so this may be me just being nitpicky and annoying on the internet, and if it is I apologize!)

I like the disturbing movie videos you have. I would definitely like more of that type of content. I watch disturbing movies as well. It is often hard to tell if they have a message or not. Some are just made for the effects, which is cool too, in my opinion. Some extreme movies are still important and should exist in my opinion, but some are just for shock, like you said.

Glad youre still making content! I know what you mean though I have a hard time with some movies, A Serbian film just left me feeling bad for days at a time and even recently I tried watching midsomar and I couldnt make it past the part where they discovered the sister. I dont think midsomar is a bad movie but it was a little intense for me. but its weird because I can watch something like frankenstien girl vs vampire girl and just go thats cool because its kinda cartoonish though the self harm bits do make me squirm a bit. it is a very fine line.

Had to sit and think about it for a moment, but honestly, most of these ‘gross’ movies do just come across as needlessly so for me, and recently I’ve found myself moving further and further away from those movies. Hereditary and Midsommer both come to mind... it seems pointless beyond art, and instead becoming a game of who can stomach the most before tapping out. It’s a cool badge to wear that you were able to watch it all, but that’s it. But regardless of my own opinions on gross movies, I like hearing yours! Even if I don’t usually like the subject itself and would never watch it, your insight and humor is what I come to listen to. Won’t lie, it would be interesting to hear you talk about more types of movies, but I won’t fault you for staying on brand. Do what you want, we’ll all still be here. (:
