When we needed the animator the most, they came back and showed us the best thing to watch this year

I like how people who defend the polygon trilogy say that "we've already saw Godzilla fight Mechagodzilla five times already" while the first two movies were Godzilla fighting the military, which how many times have we seen in the movies?

To give another thought: One thing I really love about this animation: in canon, Ghidorah actually had an interesting introduction, doing all sorts of crazy, eldritch, reality bending stuff...and that is completely forgotten once the fight starts. THIS Ghidorah, however, takes that aspect of this Ghidorah and runs a mile with it. This Ghidorah actually LIVES UP to the promise of this eldritch, extradimensional cosmic horror. And I really love that.

It's a million times better then the movie. Same for the godzilla earth vs mechagodzilla battle.

I love the animator's work. While they don't ultimately fix the issues in writing I have with the Polygon Trilogy, this and the Mechagodzilla animations at least use the potential that was squandered in the designs and concepts we only barely heard of in dialogue or saw.

The fan-animation is goddamn awesome. Probably the best Godzilla fight I have seen in my life and it wasn't made by a big studio but instead by some random person who we still don't know his or her name yet.

I am happy to see JP Bros making this kind of stuff, talent is all over the world and damn is cool the guy who made this video put some Monsterverse references in there.

That channel literally put a multi billion dollar company and a big name 3DCG animation studio to shame by revealing the full potential of what an insane anime fight between the biggest rivalry in kaiju eiga could have looked like.

I think the animator decided to include the final clip of the actual movie for a specific reason, even if out of context at that point. As you've noticed from the previous animation, they did not include those robots and the whole alien metal contamination going on as they fly towards godzilla, but here they did include something canon. To me, they did that because they intentionally wanted to point out something like: "Hey, here's your original story. No matter what, you could definitely keep it all, yet you could have fit all you have used to tease the audience all along"

Tbh the best part of the Polygon trilogy is the deity status and fear factor of Void Ghidorah and Godzilla Earth ( but not their fight tho), and the very interesting prequel novels

I think you hit the nail on the head at the end. The 3DCG animation for the anime trilogy was adequate on Polygon's part. Considering that 3D anime at the time was just getting off the ground. I can say the same for Ajin: Demi-Human. It certainly looked better than Berserk. In addition, the sound design and voice acting were mostly nailed. But all those things just come down to much money and time a project has. Urobuchi, Seshita, and Shizuno wrote and directed three films to be unconventional to garner newer audiences, to be novel for the sake of being novel, to "subvert" older audiences and blame them for having issues with the writing and storytelling.

You have no idea how many times I've seen that excuse from the Polygon Trilogy's fanbase about us only wanting an action film or that we don't understand the human plot when the human side of it is just as if not more disappointing/poorly done than the kaiju. Both aspects are crucial for the success of not only Godzilla films but any media involving kaiju or other giant beings with Gojira, GMK Giant Monsters All Out Attack and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla being solid examples of that within the Godzilla franchise. But to add on to what you said about "if the human plot falters, then there is the kaiju action that we could look forward to" I'd also say that philosophy also be applied to vice versa like in Invasion of Astro Monster where Godzilla, Rodan and King Ghidorah didn't have much screen time (half of which being stock footage) or much emphasis on them but the human plot is one of the best in the franchise. But yet again, that is just coming from my brief analysis on IOAM but what I'm trying to say is how if at least one of those areas are good then it still benefits the film which is something the that Polygon Trilogy failed to achieve in both areas. Hey Ghidorah didn’t looked like noodles

I think a good answer to the ending would be something that happened before Ghidorah’s “death”. He loses his two heads, but they reappear from two vortexes. This tells me that merely destroying Ghidorah is only sending him back to his prison, one only he can let himself out of by the outside

One thing I love about the animation is that it presents Ghidorah as a serious challenge. Exactly what a great antagonist ought to be. He towered over Godzilla and, at times, made you question whether Godzilla would win if, just for a moment, the creator made you forget that the protagonist was booked to win.

There's even more references that are Japan exclusive, that being the beams used on Shin Godzilla in the Evangelion crossover. And his gravity beams that move and pull are a Keizer Ghidorah reference. Ghidorah's death here might not be permanent given he respawned his two heads (by the way the noodles here actually work) and he was a true planet eating threat that seemed unstoppable so it might make more sense for Haruo to kill himself.

One major difference between this and Legendary Mothra's sacrifice: Legendary Mothra and Godzilla are friends, Anime Mothra and Godzilla are ENEMIES. So that provides an additional layer to things: Ghidorah is so big of a threat, so destructive, so powerful, that the only way to defeat him is for Mothra to power him up. I like that small change.

It still baffles me that America messes up with Godzilla 1998 and Toho gets it right with Godzilla 2000, but now Toho messes up with the Godzilla polygon trilogy and America gets it right with the Godzilla monsterverse. Hipocracy, anyone?

Now even though I do understand all of the criticisms I personally always enjoyed the films and I think it was the Simplicity of those characters actually made me like it so much not that I don't enjoy more socially complex characters like for instance the Spider-Man into the spider-verse new most pretty good however I also likes the characters on me anime trilogy I'm also loved what they had in it I thought it was a cool idea or something different no I do agree certain things should have been different to be honest the only real change that I do for the series is replacing Ghidorah with a different Kaiju because it's cool as it was to me it felt like another kind you bagan should have been in that place not because I think of him as being that kind monster but just because he's an unused character and he would have been much more easily accepted into that kind of role so I don't disagree I do see and understand all the complaints I agree the fights should have been better but I still enjoy what they had plus there were many points where I would understand the characters and even feel for them

Honestly these animations just make me sad because they show what could have been the Gidorah one in particular is amazing because of how over the time and Cataclysmic everything is even amended a problem i had with this version of Goji mainly how he felt too OP never taking serious damage never feel like losing and never felt alive even when Gidorah fought him and was beating him he didn’t care this one loses he squeals in pain hell even the mechagodzilla animation didn’t help but this victory felt earned

And then all the humans still living in their caves nearby, died. And no one in the audience cared. (Due to half-assed characterization or even the lack thereof in the original trilogy writing.)

Maybe the reason we need to see monster battles because everything else is boring and want to get at least some entertainment out of it. King of the monsters love it or hate it, is at least entertaining. The only thing I think with the anime trilogy is how it had such cool ideas but wasted all of them.

Since the battle wrecks the planet, and would need many years to recover (if at all), I'm going to guess the epilogue means we were watching a dream of Godzilla's.

Thinking more on this and having seen Urobuchi's other works, something occurs to me: This actually feels more his style than the actual anime did. Urobuchi is many things, but 'restrained' isn't one of them. Look at Madoka, Thunderbolt Fantasy, and Fate/Zero. As a friend of mine put it: Urobuchi doesn't do things by halves. But here...it feels like he was on a leash. And I genuinely think he was. there have been implications that he and the director butted heads constantly, and the director tended to veto a lot of his more crazy ideas he's known for. Not to mention Toho's 'no kaiju battles' edict, which was a mistake. This can kinda be seen in the movies: a lot of concepts are very creative and feel like ideas he would come up with...but are stopped before they can ever progress in a way he normally would. Mechagodzilla is basically made of nanomachines. Urobuchi said had he had free reign, he had a lot of crazy ideas to exploit that...but the director vetoed it, something we know happened. We have a planet of monsters...but it's just Godzilla and a forested planet. We have an eldritch abomination Ghidorah who does get some cool ideas before he shows up...then does nothing interesting. So yeah, the sheer crazy, creative action these MMD short films feels more like what Urobuchi is normally known for that the actual movies he wrote.

I really like the Godzilla anime trilogy and wanted more. Sure a lot of things were wrong with it, but it’s still a brilliant series to watch. It takes the classic Godzilla formula and turns it on its head. Making it more unnatural and alien then we are used too. City over the Edge was okay for me as it was the last bastion of human weaponry to fight Godzilla but it failed just like the rest, emphasising that he is beyond anything you can come up within defeat him. I also like how ethereal and nigh omnipotent Ghidorah was in the last film where he shifts and bends the laws of reality by his very presence. Yeah it’s sad we didn’t see him fight Godzilla, but I doubt Godzilla would even find a way to beat him. These animations this guy did tho was out of this world. Showing what if scenarios to an already epic series imo. Only now we see the full extent of what MechaGodzilla, Ghidorah and of course Godzilla could do if they were to show off their power. Adding the elements from previous films and attacks for Godzilla was a real nice touch and made it see, plausible that he’d be able to do all these things if he wanted. Honestly, I can’t find any fault in these fan films. More people need to be aware of their existence and to react to it.

Ghidorah in the anime and in the fan animation are both beings of energy. And with mothra gone godzilla wouldnt last against ghidorah and this makes sense for Haruo to just go die and let his fears leave. And let humanity coexist with godzilla. And ghidorah in this fan ending isnt dead. Hes a being of pure energy and this ending meant to extend the possibility of the battle between godzilla and ghidorah and he added abilities that ghidorah was said to be able to do with in the old script. That video would of tied everything together. Im not sure why youre saying that battle wouldnt work. It would be perfect to show why ghidorah is a omnipotent being and considered a god and godzillas killer. And he put that into the fight. Ghidorah instantly knew godzillas gimmick and put him down until mothra stopped ghidorah and powered up godzilla. But to the point, this is your opinion which is fine but with this comment im just trying to give you more of a understanding of the anime sense you didnt look too into the anime all that much do to the movies themselves not being good which i also agree, they were bad but they are a pass time film for me. I watch planet eater and that made me appreciate the ghidorah do to its broken abilites yet weak durability. This ghidorah is considered one of the strongest in terms of abilities but in terms of durability, its about the same as 2019 Ghidorah. But anyways, just look into the anime a bit more and you can understand this guys anination and appreciate the inner detail of it.

Yeah The Anime Trilogy from 2017 and 2018 is a very pure disappointed and horrible and also worse Anime I ever seen in my life .

5:05 - I've already commented this on the original video and I'll say it again here: The only complaint I have is the inclusion of Mothra, who's just there as both a Deus Ex Machina and as a blatant and overly contrived reference to "Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)." Like in KOTM, Mothra's role is completely superfluous. You can remove her scene entirely and the rest of this short wouldn't be any different. She could've, at the very least, put up more of a fight before Ghidorah did away with her, rather than just have Ghidorah vaporize her in a matter of seconds. Hell, even in the older Toho films, like GMK and "Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S.", Mothra put up a fight for a significant amount of time before getting axed off. However, with that said, Mothra was SLIGHTLY more useful than she was in the literal 5 seconds of screen time she had in "Godzilla: The Planet Eater" . . . Keyword being "slightly." Aside from that, I actually really enjoyed this fan animation. While taking some much needed creative liberties with its source material, this fan animation delivers some incredible kaiju spectacle and absolutely succeeds where Polygon's Godzilla Anime Trilogy fails. ^^
