I agree! I heard some people call him ugly but I couldn't disagree more. He has that serious almost depressed look to him, that fits with his fighter nature but also inspire sympathy, he doesn't look angry like godzilla, just focused, he is a dinosaur in a world of monsters,and his suit is one of the best of the era.

Godzilla (and the other kaiju) were actually rogue AI hyperdimensional computers, or distinct programs rather, trying to solve an apparently unsolvable problem by means of competition -- although this wasn't very clear from the anime's presentation, admittedly -- compared and contrasted to Jet Jaguar trying to solve that problem by means of cooperation. In that sense, they all also represented the sin of mankind's hubris almost destroying, not only human civilization, but the whole universe (potentially.) Nor did the scientists who got us into that mess learn much of a lesson: they're going to take the bones of the hyperdimensional Godzilla Ultimate (somewhat shrunk down back to 'normal' 54 G-size apparently, as it collapsed backward through time in falling apart), and make Mecha-G out of it.

Just because you’re filling plot holes and bad scriptwriting with theories that’s never explained doesn’t make the story better! (I’m looking at you, Battleship)

@@prehistorichero2755 I disagree about the details shown and explained by the show, although I do agree that the hyperdimensional computers are generating hostile cosmic-horror inter-dimensional entities. (Not really Lovecraftian, but that works very broadly.) Also, I fully acknowledge that the show doesn't explain this clearly (and should have done so). But the pieces and even enough of the discussion are all there. I sure can't go into sufficient detail in a KZfaq comment however. Nor do I blame anyone for being annoyed by it.

The Pokémon only works technically for ShinGoji, due to visually resembling the ontogeny-type evolution. GyuraGoji, on the other hand, is more akin to a Digimon because of how drastically different their stages are in appearance

For one of mine, I decided to kind of play off SP's idea with Titanosaurus, but made him his own distinct kaiju still, being a non-aggressive relative of the Godzilla species. He's also built more like a seal or walrus, able to move on land, but being much more suited to the water.

Considering how expensive the figures for those characters are, I don't see how they couldn't make money from them. The series revolve around jet jaguar who also can be considered a C-tier Kaiju since he never appeared since the showa era. So I doubt that's the problem.

1) Disrespect is not reliant on intention. I'm sure you, at some point, had to deal with the awkward aftermath of saying or doing something you thought was fine that the people around you took umbrage with for whatever reason. I know this is true because everyone has; it's unavoidable. 2) Easter eggs and references alone do not equate to respect. Thor: Love & Thunder has Easter eggs and references, but it still treats the characters and plot like the punchline of a joke only Taika Waititi thinks is funny. The 2019 Hellboy reboot is filled with references and Easter eggs as well, but it's nigh-unwatchable. Easter eggs and references are seasoning. The story is the meal. No amount of seasoning can disguise when a steak is undercooked or burnt, and no amount of references can distract from a poorly-executed show. 3) The team behind GSP could very well be fans, but that doesn't make them infallible or immune to scrutiny. I have many, MANY issues with GSP, the topic of this video being just one of them. There are numerous setups without any payoff (not just the cliffhanger ending), extended scenes of technobabble that are more confusing than interesting, and the two leads end up switching specialties early in the show. I've gone into detail in other videos, though. That said, GSP is still better than the Polygon Trilogy, but it's a far cry from SSSS.Gridman.

@omniviewer2115 Yes in everyday life you can be disrespectful by accident, but it's not exactly reasonable to take offense or get too upset by people accidentally saying something disrespectful. I would argue intent does matter especially with art. Surely you wouldn't say an earnest adaption doing something you don't quite gel with is at the same level of something like godzilla 98, which actively hated the franchise. The anime wanted an evolving godzilla and used the forms to pay homage to other kaiju. In the example of Thor, taika actively did not give a shit about the subject. Would not say that comparaio is applicable lmao. Your ultimate point is correct tho. What matters is the story and if it doesn't work for you that's fine. I personally really liked the theoretical physics and concepts and found them interesting. Hard sci fi concepts are part of godzilla's history and GSP was pretty engaging. Don't blame people for not getting sucked into it. But not liking it is not the same as it being offensive.

To be disrespectful is to not hold something in esteem; to be offensive is to be actively revolting. I do not take umbrage with these proto-Godzilla forms because they are revolting, but because they exist at the expense of respect. The choice takes three characters with established personalities and abilities, and reduces them to their looks. They are just skins that serve as variations of Godzilla rather than the individuals they started out as. Would you say that all Star Trek Captains are just James T. Kirk with different hair? Would you say that all superheroes are just Superman in different colored tights? I say no, because each individual character is just that: individual. To not acknowledge that individuality and reduce them all to nothing but costumes worn by one entity is to be disrespectful of the work that went into crafting them as characters. The same thing applies to Kaiju. Yes, I know Waititi doesn't care about Thor or Marvel in general. That's why I also brought up the Hellboy reboot in my example. By all accounts, the people involved in that train wreck are fans of the comics, yet a train wreck it remains. Of course, the decision to have an evolving Godzilla almost certainly came from Toho rather than the GSP creative team. Given how the only features that denote Aquatilis, Amphibia, and Terrestris as Godzillas are dorsal that are totally incongruous with the overall designs, I think it's clear that making them Godzilla variants was a late stage mandate from the studio because they still wanted to replicate Shin. The disrespect could easily be on the studio's part rather than the writers', but it's still disrespectful.

That's a little bit different. It's not GMK presented a King Ghidorah design and called it Varan (or vice versa); rather, it included a few minor details while maintaining the overall design of King Ghidorah.

Projects enter a radio silence period as they're being worked on, doesn't mean they been scrapped. Singular point did better in Japan than it did globally which is why it got a s2 announcement. Unfortunately kdm was the only source to report on it and only a selected few kaiju fans follow him on Twitter or know of him. This is what happens when fans only see toho/legendary as their only sources when smaller sources like leakers or journalists (kdm) do exist

You ask who it is disrespectful to, and I will answer. For one, it disrespects the fans who have waited years to see these characters get a proper update, only to see them used in the same capacity as a video game character skin. It also disrespects the creative teams of the past who put so much time into realizing these characters in terms of design, performance, and effects execution, because it essentially says that the design is the only thing that matters, and even that can just have another name slapped on it. Never once did I say that artists cannot have their own interpretations of things. However, an artist is not exempt from criticism if his interpretation doesn't work or insults the audience. Frankly, I'm not even sure this is an artistic interpretation, as I say at the end; it could very well be the result of executive meddling, which is also not exempt from criticism. In either case, the result is the same.

Here's the thing: an Artist _can_ have their own interpretation. But if the excuse for them to make it look different is purely "Cause I wanna do something different" that is basically spitting in the face of fans and the character itself. Example: The Eragon film. The Director completely butchered the novel that movie was supposed to be based on because he wanted to do, and I quote "Something different." Characters had their race changed, an actual unique creature was turned into generic orcs, it fell apart quickly. You can have a different interpretation of the creature, but it's obvious that Singular Point and Polygon really didn't have any respect for Godzilla.

@Velociraptors of Skyrim I havent read the source material for Eragon, but I still found the movie to be bad, I was a child and still thought it was bad, same with the Spiderwick movie. Interpretations can be bad

@Omni Viewer I just feel saying it's disrespectful is a bit much. It's pretty much like saying they are doing it on purpose to upset the fan base or that they don't care about the sources material. I'm sure they love Godzilla just as much as the rest of us. The problem probably rests with Toho and licensing. I'll give an example in the video game Dead by Daylight they got the rights to use the Ghostface mask but not the character from the Scream movie, so they had to make their own version of the character. Essentially, the same character is just a work around the licensing. I'm guessing Toho gave them the no-go on using the names and licensing of certain monster, so they did the best they could in order to appease the fans.
