A few months back Iistened to a sermon by a SSPX priest, which addressed the question of what does it mean to be *poor* *in* spirit. His say on the subject was that the phrase points out to us our abject dependance on the grace of God. The realization he taught was necessary, because we are saved by the knowledge of our weakness, and are damned by the illusion of strength. Somehow I never encountered preaching on those particular words.

I had meant to reference Psalm 37 (LXX 36), which has come up in the office the night before, and which seems rather to point toward the Beatitudes.

I think the vain repetitions part is one of my struggles. My prayers at times tend to be the same old rambles that don't get much beyond myself or my immediate loved ones. I realize I need to pray more for my enemies, and the whole world, and not just my little bubble.

Perhaps rather than vain repetitions we might consider fervent repetitions. Consider, for instance, Luke 11:5ff.

@@dalecaldwell thank you. The wife and I just had a spat about this, but in your opinion, is there anywhere in existence at the moment a church, or the church, that is truly "orthodox" or "catholic" and is truly the pillar and ground of the truth, and ain't just a collection of people doing what's right in their own eyes?

@ColinV03 I suppose that Jesus' answer is far more important than mine, so I would suggest we take seriously what he said about the wheat and the tares. But the Orthodox Church seems to have a lot more wheat, in my experience.

@@ColinV03 Although, reading the 8th chapter of Ezekiel, I wonder.

@@dalecaldwell ok, either a weird coincidence or a holy ghost moment, but this afternoon after praying and pouring out my heart to God I got a random urge to read Ezekiel chapter 8. So what are the odds of that? What brought upon your reading of it?

I don't think there's anything wrong with tin cans or instant coffee. I have drank a lot of instant coffee as a night time security watchman. Guard stations are a lot like tin cans. And in the quiet hours of the watch, you have a tendency to do a lot of thinking, reflection, and prayer. We are different and we are alike. You are my brother and I would break bread with you without hesitation. Bless you Dale! Your videos minister to me!
