I'd hardly call this an airsoft review to be honest, but it's hopefully an entertaining window into what we prioritize about our airsoft guns and some good information for you guys considering the Avalon SOPMOD!

Picked Mine up 4 days ago… Pretty much what You all talk about upgrading another M4 platform and what You get out of the box with Avalon was My thought process maybe 6 weeks ago. I had a few carts full w/ different platforms and upgraded parts. I watched hours of KZfaq, visited several stores and talked to a lot of people… NONE of the shops ,except one, even mentioned this rifle… I was very specific on My needs and wants. Most ALL the shops tended to try to sell Me an average $250 platform that I would have to spend another $200 (minimum) to get close to what I was asking for. Please keep in mind I don’t feel confident doing AEG technical work, so I would probably have to have paid for technical work. “I” love this rifle for what I got out of the box and its versatility. $439 retail, w/ discount $395.10 plus tax or ($429.67) .25g 396fps out of box… Put, under 750 bb’s .25g 386fps and very accurate! Indoor field I was at is max .25g/400fps

Quick tip. To remove the orange colling without damaging the finish underneath use CitriStrip. I just pit it in a shot glass for like 10-15 minutes and it all rinsed off in the sink

The Avalon gearbox no longer has self shimming gears. Great video always love when you guys review guns!

Not quite - Avalon gearbox still has self shimming gears in guns that are sold in Europe.

Love these videos, especially the recent ones focusing on TF Keg! I think your recent videos for Keg have been some of the best for 100% airsoft content you've done in awhile (your rant pieces are still my favorite). As a suggestion, I'd love to see a 'TF Keg' series where you focus on different parts of the TF Keg kit and give suggestions on gear/replicas. This video is a great example of a part of this series, where you guys suggest a great rifleman option for Keg. Seeing more reviews for DMRs, Snipers, handguns, etc that fit the impression would be awesome.

If a stock non speciality airsoft AEG lifts past 0.36 easily out of the box the hop system will be too sensitive and inconsistent for 0.2g bbs. Manufactures needs to balance the performance of their gun to work best for 90% of use case and well for 97% of use case. This means bbs in .25g to .32g range is what most airsoft rifles are designed for these days for US market. If end user typically use heavier bbs then it usually means they are experienced and usually have the ability to swap to heavy weight specific buckings.

There were gunfights at AMS where we were hitting people and when their buddies returned fire, their BBs were dropping almost 50 feet in front of us. It was a very entertaining real world display of the difference BB weight makes for ranged engagements.

If your running less then .40 in a sniper, your doing something horribly wrong, heck under .45 should be the minimum

@@opairsoft8100 I've seen .25s in a novritsch sniper and .28s in an umbrella armory ocaw, while my friend is using .30s in a spring rifle for the fun of it

I love my RM4A1 ERG, fantastic gun. Need a better bucking ootb though, but that is easy to swap.

Many thanks for the Editor's note, really good to also look at current value instead of now +1 for that! Also I do have a question, is it possible to get some information on the use of thermal for spotting/recon during milsims? And if a handheld model is more useable then for instance a scope model? (heard that during one of the podcasts that some of you were looking that way, but cannot remember which one)

I’ve had mine since March this year and absolutely love it! It took me 15-20 minutes to boil the flash hider off tho.. that sucked. I’m running mine with the stock Sopmod stock and a 9.6 1600mah NiMH elite force battery, I was wondering what 7.4 battery you guys are using in the LE stock configuration and how comfortable it is with the rubber butt pad since I know that helps keep the battery in with the LE stock

Just got one today. put a 50D MR bucking, and warhead brushless in it. had the tech put deans and a gate aster in it before they shipped it. only issue i ran into was my MAXX M4A hop up wouldnt feed the BB's and lancer tac mid caps are a super tight fitment

hi，lynn Eric I’ve watched your guys review on this m4 and I bought one. It’s very well built. However, I’ve noticed that the VFC does not replicate the SOCOM heavy barrel if you take a look at the barrel inside the Handguard. The flash hider that has a “cut” there indeed replicates the SOpMod flash hider. If you guys get your hands on Tokyo Marui’s SOpMod m4 NGRS, that one has authentically replicated the SOCOM heavy barrel. Regardless, this is a solid AEG and thanks for the review.

So I bought this gun and had it for 2 weeks now. Today I used a 11.1 lipo battery for the first time and probably shot around 100bbs through it until the gun just stopped working. Any ideas on why this would happen? Thinking it was the battery I used my fully charged nunchuck batteries but the gun still wouldnt fire. Helpppp

Ass to brass, sure. This gun is fine for 90% of Airsoft use. *personally* i wouldn't trust anything that describes itself as 'self-shimming' - but I'm a perfectionist. Compared to the other stuff in the same catagory, I can't really think of a great alternative unless you're willing to go CYMA and their new M4 line. Price wise, it's a bit much.

VFC has not been using the "self-shimming" spring on the gears for like 2 years now. Gen 1 avalon MP5s, sabers and caliburs may have had it but, gen 2 and any other avalon models do not. Source: I've I worked on like 10 avalons and only one had sprung gears. Krytac on the other hand is still using a spring on their spur gears for their M4 platform. Not sure about the vector.

VFC is super hit or miss. I tried someone’s stock 416 on the field and liked it enough to buy one for myself since it was really nice. Mine ended up having issues out the box, kept locking up on semi so I had to keep using switching to full to get it working 😭

I got a vfc avalon as my first gun a year ago and have regretted it immensely. Nothing but trouble. In the process of saving up for a krytac. Maybe in a year or two I'll hpa the vfc

For premium price VFC does not have premium quality control when it comes to their gearboxes. I'm not saying the guns are bad, but at that price VFC should be making a product that always works out of the box. Edit: although like the guys said, maybe they've fixed the issues. I hope so

Yeah I've heard issues like this before which is why I tried to address the reputation their electronics and self-shimming gears have, but everyone in our group so far has not had these issues. I'm hoping the consistency in our sample size is indicative of a positive change overall rather than just good luck.

I had a friend of mine peer pressure me into getting a VFC and I bought a 416 and it was the biggest piece of shit I have ever purchased. Semi locked up after 2 shots, the hop up couldn't lift .25s, and if my magazine had more than 140 rounds it wouldn't fire correctly until I got under that 140 round mark. Had to dump 300 into fixing the issues, but the feeding issue never went away so its now got a P* in it and nothing on it is VFC stock anymore

get a bernzomatic torch from home depot or lowes and apply heat(a small flame) at the seam in front of the front sight post for a few min. this will melt all the thread lock that is giving u so much trouble. remember it is reverse thread just like removing the flash hider. this method can be used on most guns. just keep the flame away from anything that could melt like plastic

CQBRs with chipped rear sights were early 2000s SEAL guns or maybe even CIF but not Delta

@@cx3264 yeah that’s what I said genius, they never used “Block 1 SOPMOD CQBRs”. It was 14.5 M4s with some sopmod stuff and then stuff like S&B Short dots, ET551s and Bushnel Holosights, among others

Why is keymod still a thing in Airsoft when real steel pretty much dropped it for mlok? Cheapos still wanting to use old furniture? Or am I missing something?

@@erikf7452 are you one of the Eric’s from the video? Well long story short I’m kinda new to Airsoft and I went to a local store 6months back and it was hard to find mlok there. I even brought it up and asked if keymod is dieing (seems like it has on the real guns) and he looked at me offended and treated me like I was stupid just because I had a question and wanted mlok. So I ended up getting a VFC saber CQB online because of the attitude I was given over a question. So I assume now rather then a one off even that all Airsoft it’s still on keymod (probably wrong about that)
