There's another Hades/Persephone comic on webtoon called Punderworld. Hades is adorkable and awkward, but Persephone is more naive, but so far it's pretty good.

You should watch Overly Sarcastic Productions recent video on Hade and Persephone! As a fellow fan I felt like it finally vindicated me in showing how modern culture has warped their characters into "naive little girl and The Devil." The ancient sources actually support Persephone being a bad ass queen of the underworld and even the kidnapping was actually sanctioned by her dad? PLEASE give it a watch

Goddess of Spring by P.C. Cast is a Hades/Persephone retelling and it definitely has what you want in the characters of Persephone and Hades. It's the second book to the Goddess Summoning series, but they are more companion books than anything, so you don't need to read them in order.

My one gripe about Lore Olympus is that it’s so drawn out. I actually followed it briefly during her first run, dropped off, then came back in 2018 when she republished it. Each week when I fast pass you can probably hear my scream “why isn’t this moving faster”. But I still love it!!

The best part about Acomaf as Hades and Persephone retelling is that of Rhysand is Hades and Fever is Persephone, Tallinn is DEMETER! Ahhhhhhhhh I was waiting for this video! I love Lore Olympus but I also agree with you about Persephone being too naive but I also think that she’s growing into the dreadfull godess she’s mean to be.

Lore Olympus has THE BEST Hades imo. I agree with you on the Persephone side of things (the few moments she's been acting a bit more queenly in the recent chapters are so much better). Side note, I got into it because one of your earlier videos and I'm so glad I did. Can't wait for the physical book!

I know it’s not a book, but I loooove the Broadway show Hadestown. The guy who plays Hades has an amazing voice and always sends chills down my spine. He’s more of a villain, since the show centres around the Orpheus/Eurydice couple, but his character arc and the arc of his relationship with Persephone is so great. And the songs are just out of this world.

I've just finished The Hades Trials trilogy by Eliza Raine and Rose Wilson (book one is The Power of Hades) and I really enjoyed reading these. I also have Tempting Hades by Emma Hamm on my tbr. And she just came out with a Medusa retelling Becoming Medusa, which is also on my tbr.

Appropriate of nothing, but that plant shelf is fantastic. The weather in my neck of Canada is still making up it's mind, so none of the garden centres have opened. I've only got a sweet basil and dracaena out. But your set-up gives me something to work towards when Spring finally graces us with its warmth :)

Does the musical 'Hadestown' count as a Hades and Persephone retelling? It's chiefly a retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice but Hades and Persephone's relationship (and the fact that it's been on the rocks for years by this stage to the point when she actually asks "Lover what have you become" and says "I don't know you anymore" - he's terrified of even the thought of losing her but he's too stubborn too admit what's wrong with his methods of trying to keep her with him) is a main theme of the plot

Abandoned by Meg Cabot is the worst Hades/Persephone retelling I’ve ever read. Like I usually don’t think much about books I didn’t like once I’ve finished them but this one stuck around in my head rent free for the longest time. I’ve only read the first book and there’s three but there’s no way I’ll move on from the first.

I was looking up Hades and Persephone-inspired art on google images... and quite a few pictures had them both with horns lol ... IDK thought that was weird haha. (you said you don't remember ever reading they HAD horns and I don't think I have either? I have only read a court of mist and fury (i am a Sarah J Maas fan, yes I love ALL the books NOT just that one lol) and I have only read the original myth?? and a LONG time ago in school!)

You haven't mentioned these so I'm guessing you haven't read them but I totally recommend the Abandon Trilogy by Meg Cabot which is a brilliant re-telling of Hades and Persephone where Hades and Persephone had existed once but no longer do and other people pick up the roles so to speak. John got cast as Hades when he died and Pierce catches his attention when she temporarily dies (but is rescued by her mother performing CPR and getting medical attention to her daughter in time) and ends up taking up the mantle of Persephone by his side. It's a solid but light and fun read. I also recommend Wintersong by S. Jae Jones which is set in Austria and is more about Goblins (has so many Labyrinth feels to it!) but Persephone is referenced a lot in it and there's a bit of Orpheus mixed into it as the female lead is a violin player and she and the Goblin King compose music together. It's a very engaging read and one of my personal favourites.

It’s more Beaty and the beast, but Hearts Blood by Juliette Marillier is really good. Her books in general are great, a lot of lesser know fairytales. Also, if you liked A Rogue by any Other Name, maybe try out The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas, it’s quite similar but I liked it so much more. I think historical romance is fun, but rarely rate them higher than 3 stars, this one was 5 stars all the way!

I've been looking for a good Hades and Persephone book for the longest time. I'd like it to be in a traditional setting( like Mount Olympus, the Underworld) and for it to be more plot-centered, than erotica. Does anyone have any book recommendations with these traits?

Another great webtoon I can recommend is "Hades and Persephone ficlets" by Gaumeo. Even though it's more oriented on the original myth with the kidnapping, the relationship and characters are really good.

I decluttered the Goddess Test recently. I wanted to love it back in the day, but it’s written poorly and I’m with you were sometimes the writing is definitely what brings the whole story down. It reminded me a lot of TVD and the Bachelor.

I read Persephone's Orchard by Molly Ringle a few years ago and I really liked them!! It's a retelling in the modern day where the gods reincarnate but don't remember their past lives and Hades tricks Persephone to go to the Underworld and eat a pomegranate so she can remember all their past lives or something like this. Overall pretty good when I read it, maybe I reread it now and not like ti so much but i don't think so because Hades/Persephone are my fav.

Have you tried seeds by M.M. kin. It is 3 volumes. I loves the plot and character development we got over the three volumes however it is one you have to read as one bug book rather than 3 separate ones. It is erotic but hopefully you would find that the plot and character made the book still worth it

I REALLY wanted to get into Lore Olympus, and I devoured it up until the "incident". I was completely unspoiled as to what was going to happen, and while I'm not usually one to get triggered, for some reason that one just got me bad. (No hate to the author-- I was warned! I just didn't expect it to hit so hard.) I may try to push through if/when Persephone comes into her power though. I need more Hades and Persephone retellings in my life. :P

Huh, what about "For the Love of Hades" by Sasha Summers? I found it somewhere between Meh and Good. The beginning is good, but then Persephone becomes a bit too "dainty virgin" for my taste. But that's just my own opinion; others find it very good.

The romance in Uprooted is non-existant I was suprised when the intimate scenes and kissing would happen because Sarken and Ag(I'm not going to even try with her name) had very little development in that part of their relationship and it just felt sudden and forced. I still really like that book though. I did research on it for a paper and the author based the story of off Polish fairytales she was read as a kid, those probably have influences from hades and persephone/beauty and the beast. other ppl have suggested this but you shoul read punderworld-Persephone is more of an adult and spunky, Hades is an awkward dork, Hades and persephone ficlets is also good-Pesephone has a lot of spunk, she reminds me of rapunzel from tangled, Hades is pretty chill, and their romance is cute-both are on webtoon

Persephone is the only woman immune to getting Zeus'ed by Zeus. Like hades is the one dude who'd legit probably do something if he found out Zeus had tried anything. Hades: Stay out my underworld, stay out my wife, stay out of my shit you got it! Zeus: how you gonna stop me. Hades: First I'm cutting your lighting bolt off (pointing at Zeus junk) then- *lists a major list of things*

Gotta agree with your RoM ranking, but having said that, I read it back when it was still on Archive of Our Own and it was SO different than the final version that got formally (self) published. The sex is there, but not as much as it is in the book itself (maybe bc the author split the story into two books, but it does feel like the first book is all sex and no plot and I haven't read the second published book). Persephone in the AO3 is truly one of the most badass characters I've ever read and that version of RoM continues to be an all time fave because of how thoroughly researched and incredibly written it was. The actual book that was finally published though is indeed meh!

I totally agree on LO-Persephone. Absolutely love this retelling but this Persephone is *too* innocent for me, up to a point it's really annoying to me. BUT the story has a very slow pace and it looks like that Persephone WILL grow into that frightful queen of the underworld we know from the original lore. Well, at least I hope so. If being clumsy and a girly girl are flaws (what? why?), this is not enough for me to see LO-Persephone as a round up character. I really hate it if authors glorify innocence and "aw, I'm so clumsy and adorable hahahaha"-attitude. But LO-Perspephone isn't completely like this, so my hopes are high, that she'll get more edge on her. EDIT: Just want to add that I'm in love with LO-Hera. She's my queen in this comic.

While not a Persephone and Hades retelling, have you read Alcestis by Katherine Beutner? The Alcestis myth is about a woman who agrees to go down to the underworld in place of her husband, the book is a traditional retelling in ancient times but from her point of view. Her time in the underworld has a lot of appearances from Hades and Persephone (Persephone in particular), and it's also....kinda gay

I wouldn’t really classify it as H&P since there really aren’t any parallels there besides him being a winter entity which sometimes that is substituted in for Hades. But other than that I wouldn’t say it’s H&P.

I was a big fan of Lore Olympus but im Greek Pagan aka I actually worship the Gods and it was just getting too much. It's been obvious since the beginning that it was just a play on the actual story but it's just... no. Just no.

@@ThoughtsOnTomes understandable lore Olympus season 1 is great but it progresseively gets worse in season 2 and in season 2 part 2 it has gotten the worst it has ever been like the character development of many characters including Persephone and minthe is ignored and skipped, all poltlines except for the main are forgotton and ignored, the artstyle suffers a lot as the background are not drawn the shading is vary basic and for the most part it seems the readers consider the author's lazyness as creative and the pacing just wants to move as fast as possible, Persephone is a Mary sue, Apollo is such a pathetic and cartoonish villain that I never use him an example of a good villain, but I am just really frustrated with it so I think you go ahead and read it all and have your own perspective on it may be you might love it (despite the flaws in season 2 part 2)

trigger warning: SA and spoilers a touch of darkness has an amazing premise, but is handled poorly. the characters feel halfway written, the romance is rushed with no buildups or tension, so are the sex scenes, they feel very underwhelming and pretty out of nowhere. I stopped reading after I reached the middle of the book. I couldn't care less about Persephone's character because it felt like she was never reacting properly to everything that happened. SPOILER WARNING, at one point a co-worker publishes an article of hers without her permission, doesn't apologize, expects her to be thankful and later on the book tries to sexually assault her and her reactions to all this situations are always mid. Confrontations never lead anywhere and the book went on without resolving issues like this and it became increasingly annoying. It was like getting slapped in the face and being forced to go on with your day without reacting. it deserves the shit placement
