Thread Painting and Free Motion Quilting A Great Egret Art Quilt

Today I’m showing you how I paint a Great Egret using Dye-Na-Flow by Jacquard paints on cotton fabric after I’ve transferred my image to the fabric, just using a window for my light source. I then use my sewing machine and gorgeous rayon threads to thread paint the bird on your typical quilt sandwich. I also incorporate some free motion quilting to give a fun and whimsical feel to the piece.

@@HeidiCreates I know!!! My spouse recently retired and now wants to redecorate the office room to his taste. That is where I have all my bird things (little ceramics, needlepoints, wall art, etc. that I have patiently gathered over 20 years! (Most of it is thrifted) I feel like I've been evicted! Well, I'll manage, but it has still been a shock! LOL I've always had more ideas than the ability to bring those ideas to completion. Sigh Enjoy your time in Florida and don't forget the sunscreen!

I have never tried thread painting. I find your demonstration/tutorial fascinating. After seeing this video I would love to give it a try. The results are stunning. Thank you for sharing your creative talent. Do you like this new paint and would you recommend using it over the ink tense?

This paint definitely has its own learning curve. Personally, I think I like the ink tens better. But I haven’t really given this particular paint a fair chance yet. I definitely need to play with it some more to learn little tricks of making it work. I hope you give thread painting a try. It really is a lot of fun.
